Yes. I also tried not moving, but the sensor is pretty darn sensitive.

Status: Decided to buy Cuphead and the anime movie Redline on the Windows Store, because desktop games don't seem to work in Mixed Reality, and watching that awesome movie on a giant theater screen sounded amazing,
Cuphead works flawlessly, and I'll try out the movie tomorrow! The experience is great!

Status: I've got my (lunatic) dynamic-typed scripting language to optimised machine code compiler to work and spit out an object file that can be converted into a DLL that will load into an ordinary program. The massive accelerations I was seeing with the in-process compilation continue to be there, yet the (seriously heavy) complexity of the compiler runtime isn't needed at all. Yay!
For comparison, the performance of a (trivial, stupid) cosine implementation I've been testing with now gets within a few percent of the native (and presumably pretty well tuned) implementation in the C math library. Going faster would actually involve using relevant math library calls or compiler intrinsics (which I do have available) but this test deliberately avoids them.

That's the first positive experience about windows store I've heard so far.

Having beaten three bosses and a run and gun, probably 8. I know it will go way up soon.
Most of my deaths were to the final form of the frogs.

Odd. People talk about the store's usability not being great, and I can agree there: there aren't anywhere near enough tags and filters to get useful information, and if you list 'Fighting Games', you get things like Reversi that people misclassified, but the apps themselves work really well, on tablets, PCs, and even in MR.

Why are you surprised? It's had continual Windows updates for years now, and the Windows Internal Database is stuck there on the system partition until I move it, that alone takes 5 gigs....

Just tried installing that insider build into my VM. No reboot cycle, but the Update Windows page always says a reboot is required to finish. After rebooting 3x, fuck you. Revert. I'll wait for the next one...
edit: That's build 17017. Avoid it.

: Data haz problem
: Specification followed to perfection
: Product say, "no, change!" Can haz how to?
: I'll look into it.
: ...I just want to fix a problem. I don't want to be told it's not a problem, or that someone smarter will come along and fix it the 'right' way. I don't want to nuke and pave all the data because someone read the spec wrong, or when a new format is designed by the people who dictate such things. I don't want to essentially have a different database for every format.
if Microsoft didn't hide the data storage, I'd just fix it, instead of asking .

It has to build the worker process to load the factory to make the server response object to build the file access factory to create the filesystem access object to read the file to pack into the response to return along the pipeline by invoking the factory that deconstructs the response into a response?

Did you know there's a CSS property to set the minimum height of an element?
Here I was thinking we have to use jQuery to do that.

Huh. So, turns out if you switch the SSL implementation from JSSE to OpenSSL it doesn't necessarily improve performance as the Tomcat documentation posits. Indeed, it can take response times from ~1 second to > 40 seconds. I'm sure that has something to do with environment details and OpenSSL configuration, but at least we're back to normal.
Curiouser and curiouser, said Alice.

No, I'm surprised Windows can live on 25GB. I wouldn't feel comfortable setting up a desktop workstation without at least 150GB. I guess it can be lower for servers, but I expected at least 40-50GB to be the norm.

40 GB is standard in most of the hosting environments in which I work (and that can fill up quickly if you're not offloading audit logs regularly, but that's a whole separate issue).

Ah.... I aim to minimize where possible and prudent. See elsewhere where I smushed Windows 10 into a <8Gb partition.

Doing it to that extent is not prudent, though it may be possible.

Yes that's an example meant to offset "I wouldn't put any less than 150gb in a desktop!"
