@el_heffe United of Republic of Tanzania?
Reading the comments abut it being a long way down to scroll in a country picker, Don't you just press "v" and scroll up three places to get to USA?
I usually type 'u' and then scroll.
I freaking hate state dropdowns. I can type NY faster than the alternatives.
Well, living in a state that starts with A (albeit the last state that starts with A), that one isn't much of an issue for me. My pet hate for dropdowns is either age or year-of-birth.
Seriously, who are all these legions of five-year-olds who are filling out online forms that you have to cater for them by making sure they're in the part of the list you don't need to scroll to?
So you can't get to it in 2 keystrokes?
-
@karla might depend on whether the dropdown has state names in it or just abbreviations.

In case it gets paywalled, a social studies textbook included a picture of king Faisal, who "ruled Saudi Arabia for 11 years, outlawed slavery, spread public education and introduced television to his country." [NYT]
The picture in question:

Hopefully this doesn't go to hell, but if it does mods can feel free to delete or move. It is sorta political, but funny.

EDIT: NVM cant get it to work.

@karla Embed fail.

@pleegwat Isn't this pretty much exactly what the 'hyperspace vessels disappear forever near gravity wells' problem in the Known Space turned out to really be, as of Ringworld's Children? It was a silly idea when Niven first had one of the characters float it in "Borderland of Sol" as a 'crazy explanation' for why ships were suddenly vanishing in a place where there were no known gravity wells, and it only got worse when he decided to make it the canon explanation for something that didn't need explaining (beyond the existing handwave of "it's math, really complicated math Bellisario Bellisario MST3K Mantra").

On the other hand, it'd be a great way to keep anyone from noticing if the floor actually wasn't very flat.

Just think of how long a prison sentence he would have been in for if he had been showing the kids judo chops.I think you mean judo throws? Judo chops (which, for practical purposes, don't exist any more) are pretty much the same as karate chops.

On days when i'm feeling ornery I will reference judo chops to try to trigger @Karla, since she's rather adamantly mentioned to us that there's no such thing as a judo chop.

It's funny because it makes no sense.

No, but this does:
OFor some reason, when I hit "copy image" from GIS and then pasted those in, it pasted the base64-encoded image in as the link...

Well, yeah.
I wasn't about to make a real picture of socks on rocks and find those exact socks to do it with.
I can easily imagine a mom taking the socks and throwing them on some rocks outside. I really wanted that kind of picture, but couldn't find it online.

Well, I did reply to his post, not yours! (And since we're on opposite coasts, I think you're safe!)

@anotherusername There's a better thing that it could have rhymed with, but that would probably have just pissed off the mother even further.

@scholrlea I doubt their dad would've wanted to wear a dirty sock there anyway.
