Bad idea: credit cards. A system where the username that you have to give out to everyone is also the password that you must keep secret.
Worse idea: Checks, where the information to receive money (account and transit number) is the same information needed to take money. (Some banks have added steps to prevent this but only in online banking and only at the consumer level.)

I thought i was just insane when I noticed that, but felt I would get laughed at if I mentioned it...

@coldandtired I finally got around to finishing that game a couple days ago. Good game. Some of the costumes are odd though.

I can only assume it's decommissioned, or somehow nobody was using that station during operation hours...

@pleegwat They way they are standing makes me think they are going to do a lover's leap. Can we have an intervention over here?

(What is forbidden?)Official, government issued guidance regarding an upcoming ban on covering up your face in public. And no, it is not about Burka in particular, see the three guys in the upper row? No surgery in public, no clowns in public (probably for the better) and no whatever the right one is in public. And no headscarf, at least when you tend towards darker skin tone.
[Edit] I now learned that the fine gentlemen and the whatever it is in the upper row are only conditionally forbidden. [/Edit]

Bans on face-covering clothing have been at least discussed here as well. They're not going to ban burka specifically for two reasons: It violates freedom of religion, and it doesn't fix the problem.

When I was a teen, there was a rumor that one of the wealthier students at our high school - which in Stamford, CT in the mid-1980s was very wealthy indeed - did this to the hand-me-down Porsche he was driving (his father bought himself a new one every year, and waste not, want not...). Just for the Lulz, supposedly. At 120 MPH. His punishment? A new Porsche.
The fact that this guy was still alive when the story was making the rounds makes me think it might not have happened quite that way, but given that he was one of the quintessential examples at Stamford H.S. of more-money-than-sense affluenza (though that term hadn't been coined yet), it seemed at least somewhat plausible.

Luckily, nowadars electronic transmissions literally ignore invalid gear selections until it's safe to transition to them....

Physically impossible. The engine-side gear is turning one way while the wheel-side turns the opposite way..

@timebandit But it's plausible the douchebag tried anyway.

It wouldn't kill they guy:
When your transmission doesn't know any better, selecting reverse during forward driving is still less exciting than you might imagine. "If the transmission was not designed with a reverse inhibit feature, engaging reverse while driving forward will, most likely, stall the engine," Renneker said. "The car won't lock-up or skid, but it will slow down a bit and act like the transmission is in neutral."

Not sure why using it would mean someone was shallow. If I can have some degree of confidence that someone is using their real name, I regard that as a plus.

That might be true of current cars, but it wasn't true of an erm...mid to late 80s (?) Chevy Suburban (automatic transmission). It definitely started to lock up and skid. I had been putting it into low gear (or taking it out?) and went too far.

Yeah, but you have to be important enough for them to verify you in the first place.

I think most of the success of the original was the 3D stuff, which was novel at the time. Is anyone actually interested in watching Avatar 2? Let alone Avatar 5?

@boomzilla Sure, we can drag out the Mighty Whitey IN SPAAAACE! story line indefinitely! It's so appropriate in this day and age, don't you know.

@luhmann I was at a wedding recently where the DJ tried some of those songs (I even won a bet when I suggested that after playing "What is love?" by Haddaway he'd also try "Mr. Vain" by Culture Beat) because that stuff was big when the majority of the audience were teens.
Too bad for him that said majority also kind of drifted into the opposite direction regarding the music genres.
I could understand his hesitation, though, as we didn't really look like a metal/indie crowd.

I don't plan on getting married any time soon, which is too bad, because I want to insist that the DJ play this:

The theory behind it is that you don't want a woman who is too far above your looks class, because then she would be tempted to stray. You want a wife who doesn't get much outside temptation. Ref: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NF5XU-k2Vk

Well, ideally you'd just get the sort of woman who wouldn't stray in general, and leave your looks class out of it.
Seriously, like, a woman who would cheat on her husband is a shallow enough person that I probably wouldn't have married her in the first place. If you're not able to make the commitment, to that person, then don't. Although if for example she was drunk and genuinely hated herself for it afterwards then I don't think I'd have a problem with it.

One guy asks his friend: "Would you rather marry a beautiful girl who cheats on you or a girl who is ugly but faithful?"
Friend thinks for a bit and answers "One man has a delicious cake in front of him. Some passer by grabs a piece of the cake but the man has still a lot of it left to eat. Another man has a plate of shit and gets to eat the whole plate. Who's better off?"
