My mom is on AT&T and my sister is on Sprint and yesterday my sister called my mom and some random other call was also connected at the same time through the same cell phone "line" so there were two sets of two people talking who didn't know each other.
I DON'T UNDERSTAND WE'RE ON A DIGITAL SYSTEM AND NOT CROSS-CONNECTIONS ANYMORE; HOW CAN SUCH A THING HAPPEN?!
SIR, I ALREADY TOLD YOU I AM NOT A PHONE PERSON. YOU'RE REFUSING TO HELP ME SO I'M GOING TO HANG UP

.... ..... .... Why?
NieR games are VERY spoiler-heavy. I can tell you it's a good game, but I can't tell you why it's good or that would ruin it for you.

THERE'S MORE THAN ONE?!
There are three that I know of.
-
@ben_lubar What's the third one? I thought it was just Nier and Nier Automata

The first NieR was different in Japan than it was in the west.

I assume cell phones that picked the same frequency somehow.
I don't think that's possible; cell phones don't use just one frequency. If I recall correctly, they use FDMA keyed by the phone's identifier. I guess they could use TDMA and timeslots could run into each other but come to think of it, AT&T uses GSM and Sprint uses CDMA so no. Just no.
Someone done fucked up, maybe the way @izzion's describing.
Yeah, for several reasons I don't think that's possible. Cell networks are slightly more complicated than a simple trunked radio network nowadays...

Status: People at work were annoyed at me for saying not to use
.Result
on async code in our tests, citing StackOverflow.I looked on StackOverflow, and the best solution anyone there had was to use
.GetAwaiter().GetResult()
like I was, but stick it on aTask.Run(...)
so it runs in a threadpool. No one seems to like.Result
, but my coworkers are trying to put it in more places. Maybe wrapping the thing they don't like in aSync()
extension method will help.
-
@magus I had reason to look into
.Result
vs.GetAwaiter().GetResult()
a while back, and while I can't remember the justification, it was made very clear that.GetAwaiter().GetResult()
is preferable. The reason for wrapping it inTask.Run(...)
i do remember though, and it's not so it runs in a threadpool: the real reason is it runs in a new async context, which is extremely useful when you're calling async stuff from UI code, and you don't want deadlocks
-
@raceprouk
.Result
can cause deadlocks because it pauses the current thread, and it also wraps exceptions in anAggregateException
.
.GetAwaiter().GetResult()
is equivalent toawait
, and the rest is as you say :D
-
@magus Ah yes, it's the Exception stuff that's the main difference! :D

Top 5 games that I own... at least according to my current sorting algorithm.

I feel bad for them, the game doesn't even look that incompetent.

Status: Tried this game last night. it's in early access, and has some obviously rough edges, but still seems quite fun. Once you've levelled up a bit, you can get into having spell combos that will quite literally electrocute an entire screen of enemies virtually instantly, and really you can't go far wrong with that.

-
@raceprouk So, you guys on this place may already have heard of that one staffing country with 'Century' in their name.
They emailed me a few weeks back about a position: Front desk, with a possibility of heavy lifting.
So I thought, "You know what? Maybe I should inform them that something is wrong with their system! They can't be that bad, right?"
And so I responded that, while I have no problem getting emails from them in general, this clearly had no relevance to any of the information I have online, so maybe they should try to do a bit better with their targetting, so I don't feel compelled to block them.
Then the second person (With an Indian name like the first) sent me an email identical to the first the very next day.
I forwarded my previous email and reply to them.
The next day the third Indian-name sent me the same email again, so I unsubscribed.
HOW!?
I just don't understand how you could do that and not get fired, or placed in every automated junk filter in the world!

February to October 2014. But he was fully employed from 2013 to 2016.
Maybe there was some linkedin circlejerk within that company?
He only gave one recommendation during that period, so he's not a very good circlejerker.
