Missy
It's strange that when they pulled that off there weren't nearly as many complaints. Maybe it's because that was 2014 and this is 2017, where pretty much everything everybody does is viewed as "PC pandering"?
-
@maciejasjmj no, it's not strange. It's ok for the villain to be a woman, but apparently not the hero of the story.
-
Apparently some papers are now running nudes of Jodie Whittaker, that's how butthurt they are.

why is it when papers are butthurt about female celebs they try to find and print nudes, but when they're butthurt about male celebs they don't? I am not amused at this unequal treatment! I want to see tabloids print nudes of male celebs too!

If you're talking about such 'respectable' publications as the SUn, they'd posts nudes whether they were butthurt or not.

Boobs sell, cocks don't.

-_-
i am not prepared to accept that as an excuse for such behavior.
If they were paying for the nudes comissioned for their paper I'd accept that, but revenge nudes because they are butthurt, no. i will not accept that as an excuse.
-
@accalia Unfortunately, it's gonna take a change in societal taboos before that balance can be, um, balanced.

no. Societal taboos don't have to change for publishers to not be dicks and stop publishing nudes of celebrities that do not wish such noods to be published.
all that requires is publishers to stop being money grubbing bastards without a shred of moral dignity.

I would reply to that, but Lord Lucan's just arrived for a business meeting, which I have to attend.

Are you sure it isn't that she's good looking and topical? I mean...I'm no British tabloid Kremlinologist, but Occam's
RazorBrazillian Wax says there's a more obvious reason.

Well, I can understand that, but it's a different argument than your original claim.
-
@boomzilla It ties in though. If it was just that she was attractive, you'd have expected nudes of Barrowman as well, because he's damn sexy. So there's gotta be more to it than just being attractive and relevant.
-
@yamikuronue Well, she's a she, and they publish that sort of nude picture. And they'd be publishing female nudes anyways as I understand it.
Are they also running editorials complaining about the choice?
-
@raceprouk said in svn info svn+ssh://doctor_who.bbc.co.uk -r13:
After all, there's only so big you can go before it gets ridiculous.
In the VERY FIRST SEASON Rose looks into a star and becomes God, so.
Sorry to break this to you but they started ridiculous. If anything, nothing's matched the ridiculousness of the first season finale.
-
@arantor said in svn info svn+ssh://doctor_who.bbc.co.uk -r13:
And only because the hero of the story has changed, we now have a problem with this?
Wait. When did that happen?
-
@xaade the Christmas special later this year, Capaldi will regenerate and become female and OMG SKY FALLING

Yeah, he regenerates.
I figured you meant that the Doctor wouldn't be the main character.
As long as they play the role, and don't focus on things the Doctor wouldn't focus on, and the actor is entertaining, I don't care.
If they spend the entire season on, "The Doctor is female, OMGish" I'm going to be pissed.

In the meantime, not so much:
-
@polygeekery That only matters if you follow him on there. I was more thinking of radio and TV, where I hear his songs quite a lot, but based on my perception of them alone I can’t find a reason for why he’s so popular.
-
@gurth no clue. I can't be bothered to care about him or GoT. I also don't watch much TV.

Same here. There's nothing offensive about his voice or music but there's nothing compelling either. Background music, not stuff for actually listening to
-
@jaloopa He got big on YouTube, apparently

Yeah! What's up with that?
Usually the only nude actors I find are on porn sites!
