Did jellypotato get worse on mobile lately?
-
Like, a day or two ago. It used to be that scrolling down would load the next posts, take a while for images to settle, and work fine. Now it just keeps throwing me all over the thread while it loads - up, down, sideways - and that triggers further "page loads" that cause more jellypotato, etc.
-
-
@Maciejasjmj it's like we did an update that brought all new
featuresregressions with customary levels of testing both from the open source community and us before deploying it to astagingproduction environment.
-
No, it got worse on desktop too.

For once, 'you're on mobile, that's different' IS A LIE. IT'S NOT DIFFERENT!

I've noticed no difference.

@dcon You're on desktop. That's not different.

Are you using Paged Mode? That's different. Or rather that's pretty similar to how it was before…

No, I stayed on infiniscroll.
-
@dcon From what I'm noticing, it seems like the issue occurs when you are reading around an infiniscroll page-break, especially if there is a one-box, image, or some other type of delayed load content nearby.
-
@abarker One boxes are irrelevant. Or at least, not necessary.
-
@boomzilla See, now you're just not reading everything I wrote:

If I had to guess, I'd say you have the "Delay Image Loading" setting enabled. Would that be correct? If so, then I would guess that the issue you described in the linked github comment is related to this post and the embedded GIF.
I am fairly confident in that guess because I was able to reproduce the issue was you described it in your github comment, until I disabled that user setting. Suddenly, that particular jellypotato went away.
-
@abarker Read the report. This is not ordinary jelly potato. Stuff is being unloaded.

Also, no. It is not enabled.
-
@abarker Also also, I'm getting the problem here where there are no images or one-boxes. I hit page up very slowly, when I get to around post 62, a bunch of posts get unloaded, and post 47 is suddenly the last post on the page.

Crosslinking: https://what.thedailywtf.com/post/1154276
Are the other replication cases related to nearby YouTube embeds?
Edit: Looked through post-by-post on the Vote Balance thred case that @NedFodder linked, and no YT embeds in sight. The 18 days later indicator is in the middle of the problem area, but it doesn't seem to be a direct trigger in my limited testing.
-
@NedFodder I changed from page size 20 to 50. Paging up in status thread, after an auto-scroll back and then forward, I "only" ended up 3 posts behind. 59979 vs 59962.
Going down:
60014 60037. Yikes!
Page down to 60039. Page up back to 60037. Now at 60027!
