How long did that take in hours?
I do want crazy glowing red eyes.
That last part was a joke. You just need the 10 slivers and the 5 bloodstone-crazed animals. The part that takes a long time is the animals, but if you're lucky you could probably get that done in like 6 hours with lots of AFK time in between spawns.
-
@ben_lubar Is it limited time only or could I start it now and do it over like days or weeks?

It's in the "current events" achievement category, so my guess is any time between now and the next expansion pack being released in a few years. You don't have a time limit on the achievement itself.

It took me about two hour's worth of actual work, over about 4 hours or so. I logged on and got over to VB just in time to grab the initial sliver and device before the wyvern spawned, then went and sat around waiting for arcdotus to spawn until it switched to the moa and devourer, which I killed, then in the hour or so between them and the arcdotus/shark spawning I collected my 10 slivers with the help of Dulfy.net, then went back to kill the arcdotus and shark.

How is that different from ones like Wintersday or Super Fun Box or whatever it's called? (Annoyed: I missed Distinction in Applied Jumping by like one achievement. Another day or two and I'd've had it.)

FunAdventure BoxThose are holidays (end of December and beginning of April). Current Events has stuff related to Living World season 3, the White Mantle, the aftermath of the energy released by Mordremoth's death, and the Bloodstone in northern Maguuma.
-
@Fox Ok so I'm trying to do this shitty broken ass, and I got all the shards without many problems (except Ben L had a cheater-vine that let him get the one in Rum Sata or whatever about 10 times easier than it was for me).
So now I picked up this creature radar and it shows the wyvern is where to go. So I go there and people in the area chat are saying it's already dead.
THEN WHY THE FUCK IS IT SHOWING UP!?
This game is seriously made by assholes. It's an asshole game made by dicks. So now whatever creature the scanner shows is just useless since there's no guarantee you'll actually be able to find it.
As I type this there's like 20 people in the nest waiting for the wyvern to spawn. What a shit.

So now whatever creature the scanner shows is just useless since there's no guarantee you'll actually be able to find it.It only shows up once per cycle per map. So if you find another map (or even another instance of the same map, probably) with a given creature, you can still get the kill without waiting 3-ish hours for the cycle to roll over again. Just keep using the item and once the next set shows up, go there quickly.
-
@Fox That's great. What the fuck is a "cycle"? Where is that in the UI?
And no I'm not going to sit here and do nothing but click the item every minute for 3 hours.
-
@blakeyrat said in Gilled Horse Chew:

Based on player observations, the 5 creatures spawn in a cycle of moa/devourer, then arcdotus/shark, then wyvern.
-
@Fox Ok, good job writing a lot of text without answering my question whatsoever.
I guess I just need to stand here scratching my ass for up to 3 hours?

I.E. it's not in the UI, it's been inferred by players.

-
@blakeyrat If wyvern just died, you probably have about 30 minutes.
-
@Fox And then what happens?
Look I don't like the mystery, just tell me how to get the damned thing. I am not a fan of vague hints, or of games that have achievements that stop you cold because the games are assholes.
-
@blakeyrat there's a guide on dulfy.net http://dulfy.net/2016/08/09/gw2-bloodstone-sightings-current-events-guide/
Your best bet for now is probably to wait for the Moa to spawn, probably in Snowden Drifts, then be ready to go for the Devourer in Dry Top. After that you'll have some free time.
-
@Fox Ok so I was trying to teleport to snowden but I kept getting in combat because this game is fucking annoying.
Right when I was getting pissed off to an extreme degree, the damned wyvern spawned!
So. Yay.
-
@blakeyrat Hey, cool.
-
@Fox Yeah. I'm just hanging out in Snowden now hoping something happens
-
@blakeyrat once the moa shows up on your device, start killing moa, that's supposed to make it spawn quicker. you could probably dick around and wait for someone in map chat to say something about it being time, too.
-
@Fox The problem is the detector is useless because I don't know if it's already happened or not. Like before with the wyverns.
-
@blakeyrat If you keep on it, as soon as the creature starts showing up on the detector, it's eligible to spawn, so if you're already on the map waiting, you know to be ready.
-
@Fox You say that except it didn't work for the wyvern, it kept showing it after it had already spawned.
-
@blakeyrat
Just curious speculation, but did the detector stop showing after you killed the event wyvern? I'm assuming from context in this thread that the wyvern spawned less than 3 hours after your "it's not there" moment, so, maybe the person(s) in map chat who said it was dead were mistaken, possibly had killed some of the small wyverns there but not enough to spawn the event wyvern?
-
@blakeyrat Yeah, I know, but if it just started showing up on the detector, then it hasn't spawned yet.
-
@Fox Since the detector doesn't work in real-time that doesn't help me.
-
You may have seen my post in the cupcakes thread.
My world's doing pretty well in the mist war. The nice thing about the participation system is that once you get participation, you can't lose it unless you don't earn anything for 10 minutes. So every 5 minutes, I get 195 points on that reward track as long as I punch a guard every so often. Then I get 19.5 extra points because of a drink I got at my guild hall's tavern, and 97.5 extra points because of the experience booster I used.
-
Don't go out there, it's dark!
-
Seconds later, at dawn:
@ben_lubar was there always this much darkness at night? I don't recall ever seeing it as dark as my last screenshot until June or so, about the same time the spotlight effect started showing up.
-
@FrostCat are you in blazeridge steppes? That darkness on the left is the brand.
-
@ben_lubar said in Gilled Horse Chew:
blazeridge steppes?
Yes, but look at that first pic again--everywhere's *black*--especially notice the right half of the picture, which went from inky to blueish. They were taken without moving my character or the camera.
-
-
@ben_lubar said in Gilled Horse Chew:
Oh wow, I missed that one. That's hella dark.
Yes, and I've seen it there, in Bloodstone Fen, and a bunch of other places. It's actually worse than the bright problem.
-
Apparently they broke their database today and it was assigning peoples' items to random characters.
I learned this when trying to log in just now, so at least I won't lose anything when they roll back to before the update released this morning.
-
@ben_lubar In apparently unrelated news, Wildstar's login server has been down for at least four hours. Today is not a good day for NCSOFT.
-
@Fox said in Gilled Horse Chew:

I wonder if GW2 and Wildstar use the same login servers and they just shut the whole thing down at once.

https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-August-23-2016/6299743So they noticed the problem within 2 hours but then spent another 6 hours "preparing" to roll back.
If they have a backup taken when game updates are released, why not just roll back to the codebase and data from before this update and fix the update within the last 6 hours (or for all I care, they could still be fixing it tomorrow, since removing the update for a few days won't hurt anything but it would let the game run).

@ben_lubar
My money is that they don't take a PIT backup of the character data in advance of an update, so they probably can't restore. And they're waiting for their SQL log reader to figure out what needs to be rolled back on the character database. How does SSDB even do transaction logging anyway?

@ben_lubar reminder to self: watch this later when it's fully done and I'm not playing GW2 just before bed on a day that's going to be a crap-shoot at work...
It doesn't help that it was our first time on the HoT end game and we both aren't fully immersed in all the mechanics and meta... and I spent great periods just looking at the entire screen shaking while trying to figure out where anything actually is on the map.
It definitely smells like it bugged out on us though.
-
Status: Just finished the dodgy crowd achievement after about 40 minutes of back to back attempts.
In the video (which I'm probably not going to upload) the last attempt starts at 33:31 and ends at 37:56. The objective is basically to kill a centaur without touching moving sand. In the middle of a sandstorm in the desert.
The 5 minute boss fight took 40 minutes for 4 attempts because I had to restart the entire chapter of the story every time I touched moving sand.

If I start running the new Legion content with a second character in WoW, I should do a thread with a series of those "diary" type posts like Ben had to chronicle their adventure...

Here's a funtime activity: match these rows of Mordrem body parts with the fortresses they are obtained from: Red Rock Bastion, Amber Sandfall, Indigo Cave, Blue Oasis
Answers:
- Row 1 is the Mordrem Thrasher from Blue Oasis
- Row 2 is the Mordrem Troll from Amber Sandfall
- Row 3 is the Mordrem Husk from Red Rock Bastion
- Row 4 is the Mordrem Teragriff from Indigo Cave
No, I did not mix these up.
-
So I'm retrying the mission that royal_poet, Ben and I fucked up on last time.
I go in, there's an initial wave of Mordrem to deal with and I get up on a ledge to hit them from a distance because I'm a fucking archer.
My entire group of supposedly the best damn NPC warriors in the world comes and stands on the ledge with me, despite none of them being archers, and fucking stands around watching me die.
Like, Caithe, you resurrect me frequently during the main battle with Mordremoth's minions (and Mordremoth himself) but you can't fucking resurrect me right now?
I'd get Rytlock not resurrecting me, because he'd argue it was my own fault. I'd get Canuch not resurrecting me because he seems to be mildly useless at everything.[1] But Jory and Caithe? YOU HAD ONE JOB, PEOPLE, KEEP THE BOSS ALIVE.
[1] Ben commented at some point that he didn't know what Canuch's shield did if you took it during the battle in Mordremoth's mind; I can answer this. It switches slot 1 to a shield skill, short use is to deflect a grenade though it doesn't seem to be too controllable as to where the deflected grenade goes. If you hold the key down you can trigger a skill that takes x seconds to perform that shields you in a glowing ball thing (like Canuch used himself) but frankly even my fat archer ass can deal with Blighted Canuch better.
