@Zecc There's at least 10 ways to say 'ough':

though | Pronounced like the word 'toe' or 'no'
thorough | Both pronounced /oʊ/ in American English as in 'toe'

And if your mother was under 30 when she had you and you were born male in a poor family or female in a wealthy family during times of economic hardship, or weighing less than 8 pounds, or at a time when your mother thought that her own chances of survival would improve if you didn't survive so (for example) she could get pregnant by her new husband more quickly or so she could return to work more quickly, you very nearly didn't make it.
Reality check: is that really so horrifying to people?
Most people don't understand nature. In general, we ignore abuse of children by mothers.
I couldn't even get realistic feedback when I was asking if I could have done something better regarding parenting.
My daughter regressed with her speech and I insisted she get an evaluation and everyone...I mean everyone, was like oh she'll be fine.
I attempted to question whether or not I could have done some things differently and EVERYONE was, "No, you did your best, etc".
I am the type of person to reflect on my own behavior and own it when I screw up. Why should my behavior as a mother be any different?
-
@Yamikuronue said in TIL (about the Dark Arts of HTML):
Huh. I've been long aware that mothers can be abusive to their children, so to me the idea that they can hurt their babies is pretty normal, and killing is just an extreme form of hurting. Sucks, but that's life I guess.
Yeah, my mother was fairly emotionally abusive and my stepmother was both physically and emotionally abusive (and encouraged the same in my father).
So yeah, me too.

riffle cards
I think I learned as a teenager playing Spades or maybe a little younger playing Euchre.
-
@Yamikuronue said in TIL (about the Dark Arts of HTML):
@accalia I want to learn a second false shuffle, because the first one I learned doesn't look very nice. A false riffle is a pretty standard one, so learning to do a real riffle shuffle is step one.
But you have your faro shuffle, a variant of which I usually use:
How to Do the Faro Shuffle | Magic Card Flourishes – 03:26
— HowcastThis one I like...and might put some effort into..
And your Dynamo shuffle:
and your one-handed faro:

— HowcastThe others are way more than I will ever need (or could do without extensive training and practice).

If you're a left-hander, yes. Which hand you use to shuffle with isn't exactly critical…

Oh?
I've since been told that they are (or at least can be) in USAlien, which shouldn't surprise me as they're pretty similar and USAlien tends to recognise fewer distinct vowel sounds.
But in British English - at least in RP - 'ough' is pronounced as 'oh' in though. In thorough it's nearer to the oo in book/look or the e in the French le. [Edit: both of those have a couple of different pronunciations but as far as I can tell they only have one in common. It's that one.]
I'm afraid I don't know the IPA.

As far as I'm concerned, so long as it's legal and everyone involved consented in sound mind, there's nothing wrong with porn. Or anything, really.
