My 3yo says lowel for water but can say Pikeechu. Not exactly correct but recognizable whereas her word for water is not.

Has anyone gotten the new update with the buddy pokemon? I haven't gotten it yet, it seems the rollout is being particularly slow. Announced on Saturday and, from what I've read, most people still don't have it.

LOL
Yeah, I think she just kept the word she started with...and I think it came from bottle, she would say lello for both milk and water now it is lowel for water and lo for milk.
She caught a weedle for me yesterday. She says, "come on pokeemon, come on" and she counts the little ball shakes, "wuuun, toooo, threeeee, yaaaay, got 'em". It is adorable.
She likes to battle too. So when I know I am going to lose I let her finish. She'll mimic on her hand as well. I've got to see if I can set up an old smartphone with an account for her.

I don't have it.

@Kian I know someone who does. But I don't.

I heard it checks for Root, and therefore I'm not updating until I can skip that check.
-
Finally got the update. Got the three missing candy I needed for Cleafery, now moving on to Vulpix. This is a nifty feature, no longer need to rely on pure luck to fill the pokedex.
-
Finally got the update as well, but since I'm not nearly as mobile, I'll get at most one candy per day.
But in spite of that, I honestly feel like the game doesn't want me to try training up or taking over gyms anymore. On Saturday, I found myself down to 5 Revives, and today, I find myself still at 5 Revives. I've hit around 60 Pokéstops, and have only had to revive a total of one Pokémon in that timespan.
It also doesn't help that where I primarily am, there seems to be someone on Team Yellow who either GPS cheats or lives on a Dratini spawn point and has optical stealth technology. Seriously, they have (at least) 7 Dragonites they've parked on gyms and I've seen gyms get back-to-back battled and taken over by him with both a) too short of downtime between a gym being claimed and the next one in battle and b) seeing a gym being taken over by him and there being no one around who looks to be playing.
There's also a Team Red guy who usually does the same, but I know he isn't cheating because I've seen him when he's going around the area to clear gyms a few times and what he puts on the gyms is "more realistic".
Though, on a somewhat more upbeat note, my brother has found what appears to be the only spot in all of the Omaha area where Charmander regularly spawns. The downside, it's near a park with absolutely nothing else nearby (and out of the way from where either of us live and work), so we won't be getting them too often.

Every time I try a gym it's a guaranteed 6 revive. I've stopped doing gyms.
-
@Tsaukpaetra You know you can switch the pokemon during the battle, right? And quit the battle if it's going badly. Sure, if they're one-hit fainting your guys, you might as well give up. But you don't need to wait until they faint to switch them. So you might end up with 6 badly injured pokemon, but potions are easier to find than revives.

I only bother with gyms for the coins, because I'm too cheap (and poor) to pay. But yeah, there's no point to gyms otherwise.

Eh, at this point there are no gyms that don't one-shot my strongest guys. The only time this is not true is when someone else is there. It's nice to think I'm the one smashing down that HP bar, instead of the usual pea-shooter nudges that happen when I'm alone.
-
@Kian said in The Official Pokèmon Go Thread:

That's why I want to, because I keep butting heads with the item limit. I want more coins for more bag space (and maybe, eventually, to buy incubators to hatch more eggs to try and get better Pokémon to be able to better beat down gyms and have better Pokémon defending so I can get more coins).
-
@Kian said in The Official Pokèmon Go Thread:

It doesn't help when your Pokémon get oneshot by a special attack, even if they "dodge" it (fuck Vaporeon's Hydro Pump). Also doesn't help that the game prefers to switch to your earliest unfainted slot, so you may end up switching back to a Pokémon that gets knocked out before you can switch to a ready one.
-
@ChaosTheEternal said in The Official Pokèmon Go Thread:

Yeah, the pokemon selection interface for battles is... less than impressive.
No, I don't want my CP 15 Omastar in my lineup, EVER! Stop re-selecting them!
-
@Tsaukpaetra Yeah, I really wish it would default sort by CP when you're selecting Pokémon for gym battles/training/defending.
Though speaking of sorting, I did find out that the HP sorting option maybe doesn't work, as it appears to only sort by CP again (case in point, my CP 351 Chansey that has 297 HP sorts after a CP 354 Koffing with only 37 HP, but even the top of the list is the same between the two sort options).
-
@ChaosTheEternal said in The Official Pokèmon Go Thread:

!!!! No wonder I can't beat anyone! The most HP any of my poke have is like, high 70s...
-
@Tsaukpaetra I only have three Pokémon that are over 100 HP, a Chansey (which is seemingly not hard for others to beat), a Vaporeon and a Hypno. Otherwise, my highest HP options are between 1000-1200 CP with between 82-94 HP.
I'm level 22, and I only have 1 Pokémon over CP 1500 and only 3 more over 1200, and I've seen people at my level or lower with CP 1800-2000 Pokémon I haven't even seen (like Lapras or Snorlax).

Yeah. The game overall is a joke, but at least it's something to talk about.
Well, until I update and can't play anymore because root.

I saw things that say that if you can install Magisk, it will let you work around their "root check" and can continue to play. I don't know anything first hand, I don't have a rooted device where I need to do that.

I've tried and failed to install it. It says it's installed, but lo and behold, it can't unmount its things (or whatever). I'll try to reapply it during the next update, this ROM has a few tricks to ensure that Chainfire's SuperSU remains installed that I need to find and override.
-
@ChaosTheEternal I have a few high level pokemon. Still, my CP 1600 Vaporeon is my go to pokemon for taking gyms. He can generally handle most fights. I have a CP 2000 Flareon (which I had to spend close to 100K dust to level) which also does pretty well in fights, and a CP 1300 exeggutor that can handle itself. Those three handle probably 80% of all fights, the rest I try the weaker pokemon and cycle. Then again, I'm mostly up against CP 1500 to CP 2300 pokemon defending, and gyms aren't often higher than level 3.
Irony: I prefer to take down a heavily defended gym rather than train one. If I see a blue gym with a CP 1800 gyarados and two CP 2000 dragonites I just leave. It would take me forever to win enough battles to add one of my own, and sap all my pots. If it's red or yellow, I can take it down in under five minutes.
-
@Kian My top 4 CP wise are my 1617 Vaporeon (which has the worst special, Water Pulse), 1385 Hypno, 1248 Jolteon, and 1202 Blastoise. I'm not getting enough Eevees (especially anywhere close to max so I don't blow away all my dust and candies just powering them up before evolving) to keep trying for stronger Vaporeons (I've evolved 5 times, 1 each using the names, and then 2 Jolteons in a row).
-
@ChaosTheEternal I was lucky, my Vaporeon has Hydro Pump :D
-
@Kian I keep hoping they'll introduce trading and not restrict it in some silly way (like no cross-team trading). My brother has a bunch of stronger Pokémon that he doesn't really use any more (as in, stronger than what I have, but weaker than his top 6 or 9).
From what he's said otherwise, that would include 3 Jolteons, but at least one Vaporeon.

That may or may not work, if they're using SafetyNet it won't work on a custom ROM at all.

My kids can't wait for trading because I have too many Pincers and Tauros, etc that are higher than theirs.

I did get the update and I've been walking my Seel because I've only ever seen it 3 times.

@Karla
So, the update helping you Seel the rarer pokemon in your lineup?

Well, jokes on them because there's no such thing as an OEM ROM for my device (well, not "mainstream" anyways).
I'm convinced they just don't want me to play, what with BS gym battles to block-wide dead zones to crap Pokémon. The nostalgia effect has well worn off.

I know my Nexus 6 fails SafetyNet (root), but I'm not getting a message about root or anything...
-
Still getting mostly screwed on Revives. I'm currently up to 6 and only used two to bring back Pokémon that I put on gyms for coins.
I remember when I was at a lower level that they would give me at least one Revive per every 3 Pokéstops.
-
@ChaosTheEternal Your pokemon faint when you put them on the Gyms?
I only had to revive pokes when I challenged a gym and the connection dropped so I had no way of attacking.
Every pokemon that was defeated while defending a Gym only went back to 1 health, wasting only potions.Filed Under: Granted, I haven't taken any Gym in the last 2 updates, I think
-
@Kuro Yeah, the previous update (0.35) made it so Pokémon always faint (whether a defender, attacker, or used for training).
Combine that with getting screwed on revives and, yeah, one whole facet of the game I can't really play anymore.
-

Woohoo! Last night I caught 3 Onyxes (Onices?) after they kept running away from me (even low cp). Plus a shit-ton of Magikarp. All three were around the Brookfield Place section.
I started with the ultra balls this time. I was not going to mess around.

@aliceif I always thought it was an intentional thing, but it might be a translation fail as well.
The fact that the damnesld thing isn't black (with optional stripes) is what always annoyed me more because I'm pretty sure that would look rather good.
