@Rhywden It's not particularly hard, but it's tedious and just happened to be the problem on my screen after 2 hours of similar bullshit when my brain finally said "fuck it!"
-
@error Are you required to solve that manually?
-
Oh, look, Blubar's script didn't fix the thing.

@Rhywden Indeed I am.

Ah, that sucks. For us, as soon as we could show in university that we could solve such problems, we were allowed to use the computer as a shortcut.
Which of course meant that we never ran into such easy problems again, instead moving into the realm of
Show that any linear combination of the complex function e2ix and e-2ix is an eigenfunction of the operator d²/dx².

Modern software developer levels of sickness:

Sniffles, virus = work from home

Temperature, vomiting, bed ridden = fine, you don't have to actively work, but be available online, just in case

I pasted a YouTube URL into OneNote
It turned into a video embed. Nice.
Except... I was signed into my YouTube account in the embedded web frame ? How did it get my session?
No, not the web version, the desktop version of OneNote. The only browser I'm signed into is Vivaldi and I doubt it pulled the data from there.

What engine does that browser use? If it's the same one as used by desktop OneNote (which is probably a wrapper round the engine used in
IEEdge) then sharing the session storage between applications is very possible. Quite a few desktop applications are really just wrappers round browsers these days.
-
@dkf It's Chromium-based, so I doubt a Microsoft product would use it.
It was probably a leftover cookie from one time I signed into IE/Edge or something that somehow didn't get wiped out.

Status: Damnation! Our network people have scored yet another own goal for the team!
With no visible announcement to anyone (they might've told a manager somewhere, but that manager obviously didn't think to tell anyone else) they've changed the networking configuration for a significant number of our lab instruments, making them unable to see anything else at all. Now we can't get any data off some of them, and the service to do the transfer is hanging just trying to figure out WTF is going on.
I have a workaround for the last part (a mixture of restarting things and doing a forced unmount) so that the service is now just degraded instead of completely stuffed, but hell damn I hate it when this stuff happens out of the blue…

Pretty sure that's SOP for network admins everywhere. It's in their code of ethics or something, like attorney-client privilege.
-
@anotherusername said in The Official Status Thread:

We have them because a previous CIO thought that having expertise on anything in house was an expensive risk when you could just hire in someone cheap from outside. Guess what? With our complex network setup, the only contractors we can get who can do changes correctly are more expensive than the in-house experts we had before (who mostly knew their stuff).
I think I'll stop ranting.

It's like "hello, sorry to bother you but I can't quite figure out if you're the person I talked to yesterday for two hours or a complete stranger". Not awkward at all.

Speaking of "sickness" - I've recently had some problems with dizziness / headaches after a few hours at the office. Really consistent, and happening earlier and earlier in the day. A day out of the office didn't have any problems, but they came back again the following day in the office.
After some additional experimentation, it appears to be related to my new glasses - but only when I'm looking out of the bottom portion of the lens. My monitors at home are significantly higher relative to me, so the issue didn't present there, but at work my eye level is above the monitors if I adjust my chair to "back and arms don't hurt" proper posture / height.
So my choices are:
- Can't see to do my work (blurry vision, weird light artifacts blocking some of the monitor)
- Eye strain headaches and/or disorientation from only wearing the glasses half the day
- Slouching in the chair with the height all the way down so I can see, resulting in back and shoulder pains.
Methinks the eye place is going to be getting the riot act if they don't agree to replace the lenses tonight. And even then I'm going to have a 1-2 week turn around time

Option 4: stacks of paper under the monitor (we must have a couple cases of paper scattered around under peoples monitors - after all, Apple knows the best height for you. Love my adjustable Windows hardware)

Sounds like a wi-fi allergy.
(@dcon already suggested my legit response, which was going to be set the monitor on top of a thick book or something.)

More seriously, there could be something in the air... with office buildings, mold is always a possibility (ignoring that @izzion already mentioned narrowing it down with some experimentation...)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgGw2klkpGk&index=1&list=PLXSg7_JSVEYKULUZ9rQNxeSIT__-CMmLzMy code translation project no longer produces syntax errors, though some of the variable names come out wrong still.
My PC at home is fast, but I decided to be smart and have a local admin account and make my Microsoft account a normal user. So far it's been quite nice, except that I let it use Onedrive as my default documents directory. Once I understood what was going on, I decided to leave it that way because it seemed interesting. It had odd effects on Path of Exile, though.
Meanwhile, my friend wanted to play Dragon Nest, now that they've escaped Nexon (oddly, they fit in well there, since the game is exactly halfway between Maplestory and Vindictus), and apparently the launcher can't handle the user account swap from steam to the launcher as admin, so I had to run steam as admin. This caused things launched by steam to now use the local admin's user directories, which made me lose some settings. Not important, and working as intended. Just interesting.

I'm pretty sure if your total was $50.60 and you put $39.60 of it on another payment method, the bill for the remaining $11.00 would look exactly like that.
It also corresponds to the tax amounts, if you calculate the percent of the bill including the tax, which they always seem to do when they put the precalculated percentages on your receipt like that (because obviously the server deserves to be paid more because the government collected some sales tax).

Yeah, I think it was just a glitch in how they split the check, the system didn't handle it correctly on the merchant's copy, but on the customer's copy it was correct.

For me, if I feel sick and estimate that I am not in state to produce useful output today, I'll take the leave.
So you sometimes see me still working when I have heavy flu (with mask put on), and on the other day you don't see me because I have slight sneeze but also severe headache.
