One more addition to the WTF pile:
Elite supposedly has this background simulation which supposedly made offline impossible, SimCity-style.
Now, large parts of the workings of this simulation are either opaque or broken but there was one thing that was supposed to work:
Whenever some opposing faction reaches 50% influence, civil war was guaranteed.
Of course, some people rallied others to a system (Lugh) in order to test this mechanism. And, oh boy, did they succeed: The opposing faction they chose stands at 96% influence now. But no civil war.
Wait, what? Well, you see, the trigger for initiating the civil war didn't fire and will not fire anymore due to the fact that the threshold has been passed for a while now.
I'm not sure, but that's not the way a sane trigger dealing with a range of numbers is supposed to work. I'm certain I'd find something like if(influence_float==0.5){trigger_civil_war();} in the code somewhere...
Don't take my word for it: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=71327&page=181&p=1834660#post1834660
