RE: Today in History: Black People Conquered Great Britain Before It Was Cool
What do you mean "subliminally racist"? The DM starts at "borderline subtle" and works up to "subtle as a sledgehammer".

RE: More YouTube
Well, the software looks like it runs on Apache/MySQL/PHP/ffmpeg, all of which are available on Windows but you'd have to glue it together yourself, isn't open source amazing? <no, no it isn't

RE: <spoiler>pre madonna</spoiler> on a ¡Jedi! hunt
Sure it is.
The point of O(1) is that the function takes a constant amount of time to run regardless of the inputs. As in this case, it takes the same amount of time to run whether there's an overlap or not.

That's why I suggested IndieGoGo, they closed down Lorne's 'fuck you give me money' campaign IIRC

RE: <spoiler>pre madonna</spoiler> on a ¡Jedi! hunt
I'm still pleased with the one coding test I had in an interview. The catch that, as far as they knew, it wasn't supposed to be solvable in PHP.
It was, of course, just through retardary and syntax contortions that you should never ever do in production code because for the problem at hand, you shouldn't be using PHP anyway.

@raceprouk it was ridiculous enough in season 5, how much bigger could the stakes get than "rebooting the entire universe"?

Those who do not study history are doomed to repeat it?
-
RE: 🔥🔥 MLP Resume Boning :giggity:
Yes. It's not unheard of around here for me to be insanely self-judgemental and to freak out about it. Though that was back in 2014, I've done a lot better since.

RE: 🔥🔥 MLP Resume Boning :giggity:
I'm the only guy in my office with long hair. Everyone else is so 'normal'.
-
RE: 🔥🔥 MLP Resume Boning :giggity:
And of course giving everyone a few million dollars won't have any inflationary consequences.
Meanwhile, I had a similar experience - I turned up in the usual suit+tie affair for both interviews at the place I currently work where everyone is in t-shirts and jeans (except the one guy who comes in wearing shorts most of the year around... in fucking England where it ain't that warm) and the boss man said to lose the tie.
I did actually then gradually 'acclimatise' to the office environment rather than just turning up day 1 in t-shirt and jeans; first week was shirt + trousers, week 2 was shirt + jeans, week 3 was t-shirt + jeans. Partly for my own piece of mind (I never worked anywhere before here that was casual) and partly to show outwardly a certain amount of 'fitting in' since I knew that would be a problem. Kinda hard to fit in when you're a long way ahead of your coworkers in competence...

RE: Almost going full Lorne Kates
I'm pretty sure there are people here who would chip in for the shipping on that just for the joy of baiting Jeff.
I would, for example.

RE: Almost going full Lorne Kates
I actually got the cheque in the mail today.
Unfortunately my bad handwriting caused it to get written out to the wrong name. They managed to misread Peter as Kevin. So now I have to send it back to them and wait for another cheque.
(No, I'm not doxxing myself here, it's easy enough to find my name with any thought whatsoever.)

RE: How DEFINITELY not to CV
You could send it back to the affected companies with the other companies' details removed, e.g. don't send the power company the bank details.

RE: Almost going full Lorne Kates
not exactly, no. You pay no tax on the first £10k or so, 20% on anything up to £31k or so, 40% on anything from £31k to £150k and 45% on anything above £150k
Then you pay extra in 'national insurance', healthcare, unemployment etc.
Considering the median wage is £26k or so, more down in the south, less up north, most people don't actually hit that tax rate. Like I said, I pay 23% of my total income in tax + national insurance and I'm definitely above average salarywise.

RE: Chrome ignores keyboard locales
Interesting that it's a 6 year old regression.
That page also suggests there's a section in the Chrome settings where you can set 'encoding settings', and the help pages agree - except they haven't been updated in probably 20 versions.

RE: Git is amazing! Or Not!!
@Bulb I did get the reference despite the fact it's not just substituting fear/hate in the quote.
At least, the book version I remember...
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

RE: The Official Status Thread
@DogsB cheaper is another example of “better” from a given point of view. Everyone has their list of criteria for judging better. I give you the rise of Apple as a product not first to market, sure as hell not cheaper but perceived as (and at one time may have been) better than the immediate competition.

RE: SECURITY: WARNING: Too long didn't read
That's not the only reason people do false !== thing. It's a habit that generally prevents people from doing crap like if (false = expression) and here just taken to the extreme.
That and some functions return 0 as a legitimate positive result and actual false to mean negative result, e.g. strpos.

See above. You posted that. Does it have some meaning to it other than what I've derived because, fuck, I couldn't work it out either other than what I came to because this is totally your style, make vague comments that you can claim meant something else when called on it.

Hear hear.
I was looking at using Laravel as a framework for an app (shelved currently due to other matters) and wanted to use the ready-to-go image they provide.
Vagrant on Windows is really not the most fun you've had to get going.

@cabrito searching through address bar wasn't a thing in 2005.
Well, it sort of was a thing, IE had some very rudimentary support for it in a AOL-keywords-like fashion, but it didn't really become a Thing until Chrome introduced the 'omnibox' in 2009.
