I did inspect the source, and I don't remember seeing this char anywhere I've been browsing. Can you explain what this char has to do with forwarding?

Also can anybody tell me what is that weird slash they use on the wikipedia article to have the stroke in the image column, namely:

You beat me to answer that.

Thanks, but darkmatter knows when to stop before he creates a monster.

RE: How not to comment
So, to sum up in our favourite language — javascript:
true is in fact "false"
false is in fact false. That way "false" evaluates as true, and false != "false".

RE: The compose panel is a barrier to the sandwich menu ()
Also, never take anything for granted. A keyboard shortcut that you actually know such as Ctrl-F may be fucked up in ways you would have never imagined before.
-
RE: Representative lines from a view file
Actually yes. A feature should be supported, be marked obsolete and give a warning for some time, and if you haven't fixed it by the time it was removed, well tough for you.
-
RE: The compose panel is a barrier to the sandwich menu ()
The point is that I'm now glad that I never open that menu anyway. Really.
-
RE: Representative lines from a view file
Wait, are you saying having bad design from the start and ascending compatibility combined implies that things are bound to stay bad?
Now that's breaking news!
-
RE: Representative lines from a view file
Bullshit. selected="true" would even have been a better solution. Or selected="element_id_or_rank" to the <select> markup instead of the <option> markup. Having to comply with XML doesn't excuse every thing.
-
RE: Representative lines from a view file
I know you're not. Semantics (and good naming) are for people who don't use jQuery, a.k.a. bad web developers.
-
RE: Representative lines from a view file
Just reminds me of the selected="selected" pattern… The guy probably had a button class that applied to other things such as <a> markups (I tried putting html entities in markdown, result was:
<a>
).In any case, ugly shit is ugly.

RE: The compose panel is a barrier to the sandwich menu ()
First time I'm actually looking at this menu. The bubbles with the number of unread posts everywhere are just… awful…

RE: What's a really cool game that no one has made yet?
I had the same idea about programming robots in advance and letting them fight in an arena. I think it's a pretty common idea in programmer's head in fact.
When I was kid, I used to think about what sort of Tycoon games were missing. The best I came up with were building your own gas station company (yeah I was that fun as a kid) and building your swimming pool company (think about it, it can bring more creativity than Railroad Tycoon or Zoo Tycoon).

RE: PHP's manual is also TRWTF
Hey mate, are you seriously trying to code useful things these days? That is so 90s. Come on, we're rebuilding forums after rebuilding Q&A websites here!
Filed under: Next step is reinventing mail webclients. Hasn't been done since gmail, let's fund a kickstarter!

RE: PHP's manual is also TRWTF
Hey! I know! It's an easy way to find the .htaccess file relative to which script you're using, and edit it on the fly!
php_ini
is for pussies. -
RE: PHP's manual is also TRWTF
Why would you need that?!
In any case, although I really liked the "fractal of bad design" about PHP, I'll undoubtebly admit that it at least gets the shit done.
-
RE: The nerdy jokes thread (bonus original title mode!)
Do you write 0 with several strokes?
-
RE: There should be a "programmers license"...
Yeah but that's an equivalent of 250 lines of C#.
Ok I'll end the troll as I personally root for Ruby.

RE: Badges!!
So this is a false problem as long as there's always the possibility to undo the user deletion.
-
RE: Badges!!
That's the kind of situation when you only hide the posts (Facebook definition of the word delete) until further noticed.
It's not like you're gonna delete a user only to save some database memory space!?
-
RE: The likes topic is a barrier to reading the badge page
Just get rid of the badges already. I didn't participate in the likes topic and now I feel unpopular. I want that feature gone.
-
RE: Badges!!
Wait, what? You can't delete a user who's been here for more than 2 months?

RE: АLL F-!!1 TOPIC TITLE
Absolutely, just like other forms of murder. This line of thought suggests a question: Should we just get rid of all laws since people keep breaking them?
I'm still unsure whether you understood my sarcasm, but I think you did.
The point you make shows that the law is not as objective as one sometimes say: it's based on what is considered wrong or right. In the case of abortion, it's debatable whether it's mass murder or not, though people do agree that mass murder is wrong.
What I mean to say is that by forbidding murder by law, you explicitely say that it's wrong, so people committing murder are aware of that (they're usually — way more often than not — aware that's it's against the law and do it anyway).
-
RE: АLL F-!!1 TOPIC TITLE
Wait, does that mean that even if we for instance forbid abortion, that will not prevent if from happening but that people will do it illegally instead?!

RE: Spoiler alert....
I say CV in my country too. I just don't write it on top of it because that's dumb.
-
RE: Spoiler alert....
Could we have it so that on hover, title text appears saying something like "Spoiler, click to reveal."?
Do you write "Résumé" on top of your résumé?
Discourse features are intuitive and obviously done the right way.
They should not require clarifications. -
RE: How many of regulars here actually fit the "geek" stereotypes?
6' 3", 195 lbs, lanky, semi-athletic, married, socially awkward, hate to be around other people, but I have no problem doing improv in front of 180+ pepole.
Are you me?
Well, except I'm 1m85 and 65 and don't have a single clue what your shitty units mean, but I identify myself with your description, although not married.

RE: АLL F-!!1 TOPIC TITLE
Do we really need to restart the debate about people choosing to take offence? Because ffs, taking offense for being called "he" instead of "she", or taking offense for being called a "nerd" have uhh, how to say, similarities?

RE: 🙅 THE BAD IDEAS THREAD
Bah, I've not read all details but in the reality it might just loop 100 times overall. I mean, are there known bounds to the arrays we are iterating over? And how was that an idea? What's the idea: "let's make an O(n^4) algorithm" or "let's reduce file size"? Because reducing file size is not a bad idea in itself, only the implementation on the given algorithm was.

RE: Ah, the joys of legacy dialogs
Since we're at it, can someone explain how the hell you complete that "filed under …" part?
Cos it sure as hell is not obvious. -
RE: Poll: Cornify - what else would make sense?
That doesn't look like a proper piggy/toaster.
-
RE: Poll: How do you use the forum software?
I usually use both the arrows on the keyboard, and PageUp/PageDown, which happen to be really close on my typematrix keyboard (it also happens to be an intended feature).
It's just my way of having a "forward" and "fast forward" feature, so I can browse and read at different speeds, kind of like on a good ole videocassette player.
Of course, I can't wait for discourse to reinvent the scrollbar so that I can use that instead.
-
RE: Ah, the joys of legacy dialogs
What's the discourse keyboard shortcut to flip the screen both horizontally and vertically? I don't want to hurt my neck reading all the messages on this topic.
-
RE: Poll: Cornify - what else would make sense?
I'm highly disappointed that I can't select both "all of that" and "none of that". It's uncalled for.
-
RE: WHAT A KIDDER!!! Ha! Ha!
Hmmm I don't really want to explain the irony, but the whole point was that any number is a multiple of 1…

RE: The x people liked this. Like it too.
I'd like to thank the OP for making me realize there were two different links on the same row.
People not realizing that is obviously the #1 reason for the lack of feedback on that matter.
