Smokers file archiving; just because something is in a tar doesn't mean it is automatically compressed.
Sorry :(

The best compression for Penny Arcade comics is the one that gets them down to ZERO bytes.

I have no idea what the point of that gif is, either.

You see?? This is why nobody should be permitted to change their avatar, least of all dhromed.

The guy free-hand draws a perfect-looking circle. How often does that happen?

Judging by the gif, about once every 17 seconds.

How hard can it be to first draw a perfect circle using a compass, record someone wiping it off in one smooth motion and play it backwards? I bet you can do it with SSDSI have no idea what the point of that gif is, either.

A lot of cheap clocks do run backwards when you put the battery in reverse polarity...

As Dhromed pointed out, it would require exactly as much skill to perfectly erase a circle using a piece-of-chalk-sized eraser as it would to draw it in the first place.@morbiuswilters said:

A lot of cheap clocks do run backwards when you put the battery in reverse polarity...Therefore no matter how simple making the clock run backward might be, it's still more effort in total than just doing it for real.
There's no trickery involved, apart from the oldest bit of camera trickery in the book: they didn't bother showing you the first few dozen takes when it didn't work.

You all do know that there's people who practice that each and every day and then hold world championships in free hand circle drawing, right?
The gif is quite real and pretty famous.

The gif is quite real and pretty famous. It's amazing how the words "world championship" can turn an otherwise-amazing feat into something lame.
-
I completely agree. I was kinda disappointed when I found out. I might even be the world champion in getting disappointed after finding out the back story of a gif.

I've been training; honing my disappointed skills. I have a lot of experience disappointing people (parents, teachers, women I've had sex with) and I've learned to emulate their behavior. You'll have your work cut our for you.

If morbs-bestowed sex is limited to those three categories, I guess dhromed's now looking for a job in the education sector...

The story's better than that. The original viral video from which the clip was taken featured a teacher in front of his class at the end of term being asked to demonstrate the circle-drawing, and telling a story about how he was the world free-hand circle-drawing champion for the last ten years - but he was joking, and there was no world championships. Since the video appeared on the web, at least one 'world championship' has been held (in 2007) and the chap in the gif actually won.
The gif is quite real and pretty famous.

It was more or less a test/demonstration of that gif's power to derail threads. Things seemed like they were looming off course so I just sealed the deal.
