@SpectateSwamp Have you heard of the work on experimental data structures other than strings?
I know that filenames don't like " ? : and maybe a tab
Experimenting with FileNames that have links for searching "in the filenames" My Swampies are experimenting too.
I hope.
Wow I finally did the CP function to rename all my original 5000+ family album pics.. From early 2000'sSo easy to do and to watch them all flash by as they were going to the usb stick.
THEN
Opening the folder with large icons and the long FN... it was and is Beautiful.
Anybody that doesn't like long filenames is a poor sob. YupWill we ever see Bots from other Search engine co's venture here? I don't think so.
This is a Windows program?
-
@Gribnit I know.
People with or without windows can easily make use of long FN's
Short FN's are Stupid.

You should switch to Linux, then you can put all sorts of things in your file names. Even newlines!

You can even put handy scripts right in the filename.

@Gribnit hell, if you could fit it in 255 bytes, you could even fit a file in your filename!

not hard at all, even for larger files, just a matter of
gzip
,base64
,split
,xargs
(probably) andln
. Unix really gives you the flexibility to organize files in a way that makes sense. And I mean, that's assuming the filesystem is even going to restrict that.
-
@Gribnit said in Nobody shares knowledge better than this:
makes sense.
Generous definitions and all
-
@sloosecannon Best part is, most of the filename character restrictions are actually shell restrictions not filesystem restrictions, so you can really get down to the business of organizing your data.

OS's be damned It's the apps that count.

Nobody shares short snippets better than this
Someone complained about the length of a document "the McCallister story"
20 pages of typewritten double spaced text... On an old old typewriter...
Most love it though. AND I just read it for the first time.
With video.. I keep them short.. When I see one that is over a couple minutes... I close out.

It doesn't rank very high (page 2), but it's there in Google. DuckDuckGo doesn't seem to find it, though, even if I add thedailywtf.com as a search term.

Swampies and ElderBerry take down Covid19 thru 99
When you are a medicine man you nurture your herbal garden.
I'll start taking pictures and adding the GPS locations.
Then Swampies can trim and water them as needed.
By this fall the plants output will be doubled. Good bye Covid19

You know nothing about idiots. Idiots listen to Doctors that know nothing about traditional cures. Then They die.

@SpectateSwamp Traditional medicine dates to a time when life expectancy was 50. And people thought mercury was a cure for cancer. And cancer was nothing more than a witch's spell.

Not the traditional healers. Just your Modern medicine. they are hard to defend when they are so pathetic in standing up for us.
-
@SpectateSwamp because the institutional and process issues have this effect, prevented by the ancient wisdom of traditional medicine, of back-propagating effects into the research and clinical outcomes, of course. One time, the Dean at college sat on a grant request so long, the whole chemistry lab exploded because the properties of nitrogen changed.

Looking at the medical advice given in this thread, I guess the treatment for my kidney infection should not be the prescribed antibiotics but rather a combination of colloidal silver, elderberry juice and pot.

Hey! I encountered some problems using SSDS! I was able to get it working by downloading the MSVBVM50.dll file from @SpectateSwamp 's website, but I don't know how to build an index of my personal files. (The default index does not match the structure of my art folder.)
Can anybody help me index a large directory of images so that I can use the random view feature to look at them?

Slow curling
Because some people couldn't handle the excitement of regular curling?
Slow curling takes the mind-wrenching suspense of regular curling and draws it out to the degree of torture. Only those with ice in their nerves and at least one extra testicle are able to even observe a single round.
-
@economics-bat You are almost there.
The first prompt for filename doesn't matter
on the second prompt enter "GF" for get files / directory
There iis a prompt for the Folder C: will get them all. or "c:\search"
will catalog all the files in that directory and sub directories. In minutes
The output files for the directory stuff I use
jpg list.txt
songs list.txt
movies list. txtTHEN
exit out and restart.
at prompt #1 enter jpg list.txt
Rand to start random... Turn it off using ""norand"
at the same prompt #2 ent3er "WW" which is the screen saver and continues with a pause in between
Away it goes... Just close it out to stop.
-
@Gribnit My curling style changed everything.
Excitement was caused by having 12 or 14 rocks in play.
Wow luck happens. Upsets...
Those that were great at take outs couldn't touch my teams.
We Froze to everything and they lost.
