Production Version Out of Context

@magnusmaster said in When running npm version, how do I bump both patch and prerelease at the same time?:
when the production release is ready it should have version 0.1.1.
Only in open source.
I get what @magnusmaster was saying originally...this isn't his

@boomzilla I'm waiting for
npm
"there's your problem"
-
@error liar.

Years ago, Linux Torvalds said that there would never be a version 3 of the Linux Colonel.
I thought that was a very strange thing to say, but I was sort of looking forward to version 2.99.99.99.999
Of course now we know that he was just trolling, but he seemed serious at the time.
-
@El_Heffe I think TeX versions approach pi.

Thank goodness it's essentially abandonware.

I think your time machine got stuck. They're up to 5.13 now.
-
@El_Heffe your lack of reading comprehension is... disturbing.
OBVIOUSLY my statement was in context of YOUR scenario where they stuck to their promise of never having version 3. In real life they went away with it so OF COURSE there are version numbers above 2. The existence of version above 2 is not just widely know fact, but the entire reason you wrote your post in the first place. So OBVIOUSLY the 15 years in my post didn't refer to the last 15 years, but the period of 15 years WHEN THEY WERE RELEASING VERSIONS 2.X!!! OBVIOUSLY. God fucking dammit WHY WOULD YOU EVEN THINK THAT I was referring to the last 15 years? IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE, AS YOU POINTED OUT YOURSELF JUST NOW. For fuck's sake.
There was a period of time when they were releasing ONLY versions 2. That period of time lasted 15 years. Was that really so hard to understand? Jesus fucking Christ just what the hell happened to your brain that you didn't get that.

I see you're a fan of putting out random broken changes just for shits and giggles. Enjoy your
npm
ecosystem…
-
@dkf FFS what's with people not being able to read today? I never said abandonware is bad. (In fact, techincally speaking, I said the exact opposite). I hate change for the sake of change as much as the next . TeX never changing ever again is preferable to TeX changing some time in the future, let alone on regular basis. That said, their versioning scheme, even if mildly funny for 5 seconds if you're an extreme math nerd, is absolutely braindead and wouldn't work for any project that receives more than 2 updates a decade.

It’s a good thing @Gąska didn’t ask for help, because otherwise I’d be unable to offer the following English advice:
You
'’d have had to have waited quite a bit, since in 15 years they'veonly got up to 2.6.edit: edited for enhancement of edit.

@kazitor English grammar is a tense topic.

I just can't see Sanders using Linux. It does make more sense since it's pretty much custom hardware, but I'd expect that to just be called the Robot Colonel or maybe ColonelBot. Up to marketing.
I am not a KFC employee.

While METAFONT converges to e, and LaTeX is called LaTeX2ε.
But I think even they realized how retarded that is so the actual version strings look more like:
pdfTeX 3.141592653-2.6-1.40.22 (TeX Live 2021)
-
@topspin they could always use a compressed notation that just gives the last pi digit index, that'd do it.

Should have been:

Is everything alright over there?
Sounds like he recently had to use npm.

Wow, someone got really butthurt over this. I thought this forum is past the teletubbie carebear phase?

@Gąska Over in the

Should have been:
"You'd have to wait quite a bit, since in 15 years they'ved only got up to 2.6."I think you mean Linus Torvalds effected the kernel staying at version 2.x for over 15 years.
