@jinpa They predicted the eventual result pretty well, apart from getting red and blue backwards.
-
@da-Doctah The identification of "blue" with Democrat and "red" with Republican is both recent and surprising. Since this isn't the garage, I'll refrain from explaining why it was counter-intuitive.

.
Do not know yet what to do with this important freshly acquired knowledge though.

@BernieTheBernie And that the New Mexico is the bluest and Mississippi the reddest.
-
@jinpa and that republicans like Barbie, and democrats like nuclear warfare?
<smaller>I don't think this comment is already garage worthy, but I am not sure anymore these days. If you feel offended: please don't. If you feel like reacting seriously: please don't... </smaller>

I certainly did not predict the pink part of the outcome, because that’s honestly the groups that I would have assumed would totally miss the message of the film. Maybe that is why the film is popular.

.Texas has long been known for Queers and Steers.
-
@Arantor On the other hand, the bluest part seems inevitable.

Wasn't pink traditionally a boys color?

-
Handy shithole identification: the more recognisable the geography, the saner the region
-
I don't think that works. Australia is clearly recognizable on that map

I've been reading that a lot of people have been having fun with intentionally taking different messages than were probably intended. Though I'm not personally convinced what it was the film makers wanted, having read a variety of reviews.
But there's also the issue of people taking their kids to see something marketed as a movie for kids. Those sorts of movies have traditionally enjoyed a lot of success at the box office.

Now you've made me want to see the movie. Just to come to my own conclusions.

-
why are you all eating dinner at breakfast times?
-
@Luhmann because Americans apparently find it impossible to count past 12.

@boomzilla said in Fun with maps:
Pennsylvania and Vermont have the earliest dinners, at 5:37 PM and 5:40 PM, respectively.
What about time zones? Are those couple of states in the North East starting from Verm
iont in south western direction to that place north ofTransPennsylvania in the same time zone, and Pennsylvania in the next zone? And what do feel Texans about living in a Blue State?
-
-
@boomzilla 7:02? Ridiculous, dinner should be no later than 6:57

I don't remember which side of the boundary Indiana is on, but Ohio and east are all definitely Eastern Time.
And what do feel Texans about living in a Blue State?
Too many not-really-Texans would be very happy about that. And old Southern Democrats. And people who have been misled by the promise of "free" government handouts and/or solutions to problems the government has no intention of actually solving.

Nobody asked me. I may eat dinner anywhere between 18:00 (or even earlier, but very rarely) and 22:00.

Why not? I have pancakes for dinner...

@HardwareGeek said in Fun with maps:

Both. Most of it is in Eastern.

I usually eat between 1600 and 1800.
-
@dcon Of course. Who'd skip the afternoon snack?

This is why I've regained 4 kg of the 15 kg I lost.

I usually eat between 0700 and 2200. The other times I'm asleep.
In reality, I usually do dinner between 1700 and 18:30. If I go much later, my sleep suffers. And I don't have time earlier.

@Applied-Mediocrity It is customary to remove one's belt onion for dinner.

The origin of that is hotly contested between Glasgow and Birmingham.

Well, with main, maybe they eat dinner early because it gets dark early in the winter. Pennsylvania (esp. Pittsburgh) used to have a lot of steelworkers, and I bet they worked early hours, e.g. 5 a.m. - 3 p.m.
-
@loopback0 So they are American then

It gets dark earlier here, and we don't do that sort of silly thing.
-
@dkf Not too many states are as far north as Maine.

@jinpa said in Fun with maps:

Doesn't change the fact that I live further north than that. Even Edmonton is further south.
-
@dkf The map doesn't show Canada. But one can't help but notice that the earliest states are towards the top of the map and the latest states are towards the bottom.
