@boomzilla There's also the WTF that nobody talks about any more: the resounding CRACK! of a ball hitting a wood bat versus the pitiful clink of an aluminum bat.

The pitch clock is an interesting change. Obviously basketball has had a shot clock for a long time and football has a play clock. I wouldn't be surprised to see some tweaks to it, but it does seem to be leading to more interesting games. Also, came across a statistic that I was unfamiliar with:
BABIP on groundballs
2022: .235
2023: .258

@boomzilla I rarely watch baseball, besides the occasional world series game. But I recall many years ago trying to stomach an entire game with my grandfather, watching the pitcher just... stare at the home plate, then turn around to spit, stare back at home plate, then look around at the bases with an intimidating stare daring them to step just 2 feet off the base, then back at home plate, then spinning the ball in his hand, then winding up his throw, then faking out the batter by going back into a nonthrowing stance, then staring back at first base, then the rest I forget because I fell asleep and when I woke up it was the 3rd inning, and looked at the clock and saw 45 minutes had passed.
My grandfather was fast asleep too. It sounded like Joe Buck was too. What a strange spectator sport.

It's more of a shared drinking and napping thing as currently formulated, like the amateur fishing of professional sports. The changes will change this, although not as efficiently as the "One Player On Each Team Has A Knife, Guess Which" rule would.

Oh, hey, never mind

Probably should have been called out when she first dodged the tag like that.

@boomzilla I maintain that pull-ups can only be done properly while smoking a cigarette.

@boomzilla Yeah. Another reason, besides politics, to not watch MLB.

They tell me esports count as sportsball, so surely this counts too:

“It’s like comparing the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. I mean, the Red Sox won a World Series in 1918; they didn’t win again until, I think it was, 2004,” Nakamura said.

Garcia has already remained in his post at Al Nassr longer than the majority of coaches in the Saudi Pro League, which has one of the highest rates of manager dismissals in the world, with head coaches averaging just over four months in their posts.
-
@izzion But it's soccer, so four months is already four months too long.

And so this season, Deptford Township Little League is trying out a new rule: if you fight with the umps during a game, you have to volunteer your time to umpire three games before you're allowed back as a spectator.
Having umpired a few Little League games, that's not a bad idea.

That sounds like a horrible idea, 99.9999% of the people yelling have no idea about the rules of the game, it is why they are yelling to begin with.
Having been a soccer ref for a long time, and had plenty of abuse hurled at me over the years, there is a really simple solution to the problem.
The home team has the responsibility of the fans, so if they get out of line and don't heed warnings. You end the game via forfeit for the home team.

TFA said:If they do have to use this new rule, Bozzuffi says a certified umpire would be there too, to make sure the calls are correct.
It's fun to see them at least try the "you think you know so much better than you come do it" comeback.
-
Yeah, I saw that and I know what they are trying to do, but if self awareness was something that these people had they wouldn't have been acting like this in the first place.

Gonna go out on a limb and state that this guy is not gonna get called up.

Turns out the celebration was also noticed by New Era, the official hat provider for Major League Baseball.
And they were not too happy about a non-New Era branded hat receiving so much attention and usage from an MLB team.
They filed a complaint to the league and sure enough, going forward, the team confirmed to WSB-TV they’ll have to find a new celebration.

So meta.

I guess that's what happens when people start paying attention to soccer.

@boomzilla Just when I thought golf couldn't get any more mindnumbingly boring... I'm not watching a video of a golfball that does nothing for more than half a minute.

Not sure if it's ESPN or the official scorer that was generous on that, but I thought we charged errors once we got past Little League...

They're writing colloquially; it appears the batter was credited with a single and one RBI while the right fielder was charged with an error.

A sport so boring that even the players themselves have trouble telling whether their own match is still going on or not.
