The Cat Status Thread

In other cat-related news, I seem to have acquired a virtual pet cat in Elder Scrolls Online. I'm not quite sure how I acquired it, and it seems to be taking up a badly-needed slot in my inventory. Also, as a humanoid cat (Khajiit), I'm not quite sure how to feel about keeping a distant relative as a pet.

Ah yis, that's the spot.

YOU are cold. They have fur.
Do not let inside.

@topspin if you've got a good plan for getting through it it is best to get this out of the way early.

Cats have their own physical
lawsguidelines.

Of course! I'm mostly dead right now.

cat status: spied on.

Tried my best to adjust your photo to something I could see.
There's a cat-shaped blob in there, I guess.

The cat had been in a more recognizable position, but by the time I re-observed it had changed itself and that's the best I could do. An attempt at using Flash failed as apparently my window is exceptionally dirty, and also the cat is black so didn't show up properly anyways.
As long as it doesn't caterwaul I don't care...

Adobe Flash hasn't worked properly for most anyone for over a year now.
-
@dkf still more reliable than Macromedia Flash
-
@Gribnit lies, when have Adobe ever improved anything that they bought in from outside?
-
@Arantor they act as a convenient warning label, like a Microsoft or CA acquisition - fair warning is a kind of utility.

@boomzilla That link in the comments!

@HardwareGeek Runebox: Big eared ginger kitten? Consuming (Using) it adds the pet to your accout permanently. If you already have it on your account, or just don't want it, you can sell it or give it away. All runeboxes are like this.

Ginger, yes. I hadn't noticed that it was particularly big-eared, and it looks to me more like an adult cat than a kitten, but whatever. Yeah, I know it's bound to my account. I'm just not sure what I did to acquire it; I think the game told me at one point, but it was not something I did with the knowledge or intent of acquiring a pet.

The cats hung around for a while, until the performance team asked us to remove them. You see, ASCII art uses a monospace font, and the cats screen was the only part of the startup sequence that used a monospace font. Drawing the backstop window was forcing the rasterization of an entirely new font, which was costing time and memory for something that shouldn’t ever be seen in the first place.
I think Raymond got it backwards.
The thing that's using time, memory and shouldn't ever be seen in the first place is not the ASCII cats. It's the Windows 8 UI.

@DogsB At first I thought they sabotaged the cat holder with a rod to prevent it from turning. (Because, you know, COVID - can't let the kids play). Then I realized it's a seesaw.
