Smith recruited 500 participants, and 30 were able to complete the entire six-day sequence of tests. Of those, nine cats chose at least one of the shapes by sitting inside it — with all four feet — for at least three seconds. Though the data set is small, cats did indeed choose the Kanisza square illusion as often as they chose the complete square taped on the floor. They chose both of these more often than the non-shape made by the Pac-Mans facing away from each other.
Of course this doesn't explain why they choose to sit in squares. Just that they do.
If that. The results might not be statistically significant. I hope you don't expect me to have read TFA.

I strongly suspect that you did so, as evidenced by the presence of an excerpt. You might, might have blindly selected some text. I doubt that this is the case. In the fulness of time, the truth will out.
The best-fit for cat aside from cat is Ender. They sit inside the hulls they think their prey may project. It's a form of camouflage.

This is what happened to me.

And the guy whose house you moved in didn't mind?

This hits me a warm spot I didn't know I had.

CNR. You should probably see a doctor.

No, you go see a fertility clinic.

Only once I can feel a warmth when seeing snuggly kitties. Until then it is for the best. I know you were hoping for more, but this is who I am.

Please, no! Do you really want him to reproduce?

@error That cat looks seriously annoyed.

The sense of awed wonder is evoked, but in inverse. And then someone got hurt.

How can you tell? That's like the one cat emotion.

The ears are tilted back.

Maybe don't annoy your cats so often?

Why even own one then?

You'll get no argument from me on that point.

I think we're getting to the root of the misunderstanding.

You need a laser point or a can of food, yo.

Yesterday:
(She's been unwell and although now on the mend, going out roaming for hours in the hottest part of a scorching day doesn't seem to aid her recovery. So I thought I'd try and avoid it. She disagreed.)
Today:
-
@CarrieVS I'm sure she'll try to squeeze right through that.
-
@TwelveBaud Unless I misunderstood @CarrieVS's post, she already did.
-
@TwelveBaud She can try if she wants. I'm pretty sure she won't break the string. It limits it to three fingers width which is not enough for her skull.
@HardwareGeek The string is new.

I did misunderstand. I thought you were showing the space through which she escaped.

@Zerosquare It's possible. But I'm thinking about making a more permanent version out of ball chain anyway..

Note that the head is the one part which retains its distinct form even when the cat takes on the shape of its container. There's a reason I use her skull as a measure and not, say, her shoulders.

@error
Just lucky there where no bombs

Status: Target-rich environment. All 3 garbage cans sat too long. All 3 are now an open-air bird buffet. The cat is somewhere, and is black.
I heard you, dawn chorus. Oh, I heard you. My reply is in the bushes.
