The way I see it is that my presence at said relative would not change much. And it's not like being able to answer the call when it was made would do much difference.
When my wife was giving birth, I called my mother at 3AM to ask her to take care of my older kid. If she didn't answer we probably wouldn't make it in time to the hospital.
(It also happened 1 month early, so it wasn't something anybody expected)

With modern smartphones there's a wide variety of things you can do to emulate that. Force you to scan a QR code to turn off the alarm, or do a math problem, or shake it for 2 minutes, or even smile for the camera (that one's pretty evil).

A friend of mine was given a clock like that. After a very hung over wake up call, it stopped working. Mainly because he went completely apeshit and smashed it into very many, very small pieces. 😁

What it needs is an Internet connection so it can learn from not only your flailing at it, but also that of other people who bought one! Of course, it will then also need sensors that let it identify who is trying to hit it so it can respond in the most effective manner.

and just ignore the alarm and keep sleeping.When I was younger and had my alarm clock in easy reach, I'd just keep hitting the snooze button and going back to sleep, sometimes for an hour or more. Except when I'd miss and hit the off button, instead. Sometimes I'd do that without even waking up enough to remember having shut it off.
I had the same problem. I intentionally put the alarm clock as far away from the bed as possible.
One time that still didn't work: I somehow got up from the bed, walked two metres, accidentally turned the alarm off instead of just snoozing and happily went back to bed again. I woke up at seven hours later just as the school had ended.
The funniest part was that my parents had to provide the reason for my absence to the school. From what I recall, it just said:
Length: 1 day, Reason: overslept
It was up there with:
Length: 1 day, Reason: fake school holiday
(Somebody has obtained the principal's password and posted on the school website that the school would be shut down Monday because of a burst pipe)

The last time I tried to sleep with a clock like that next to me was about 25 years ago, while staying at someone else’s house who had one of those alarm clocks in the guest bedroom. Annoying thing … luckily it got removed right away the next morning when I mentioned it.

I can tune out any sound if it's repetitive enough.
The batteries of 4 smoke detectors have been dying in my house for a week and I barely notice.

Last time I've slept with an alarm clock (which was not my phone) next to me, some 15 years ago, I'd wake up with the sound of the turn off button popping up, rather than the BEEP BEEP that followed. More often than not I turned it off before it started beeping.

It'd be interesting, because I can go into rage mode from stuff like that. And I wouldn't remember what I'd done afterwards. Or I may be in zombie mode and just be more or less a useful idiot and do as told without much thought.

And I used to let people punch me for tits and pickles. I usually just told them to avoid spraining their wrist, and aim for softer parts, because you can damage the flimsy bones in the hand if you punch someone hard in the face.
