False. Cones don't have backpressure. Those are spreads. But even as a murder, it's a good story.

@Applied-Mediocrity I didn’t say how much more of our collective sanity was intact…
-
Reminds me of the relationship between the skill Cthulhu Mythos and Sanity in Call of Cthulhu: The more you know about Cthulhu Mythos, the lower your max sanity becomes. So in real life, the more you know about programming, the less your capacity for sanity becomes?

If you want to keep an optimal subset, taunt the gods. And I don't mean idly. Find their personal weaknesses, secret names and such, and needle them in the wee hours of the night.

@Gribnit you're not supposed to reveal your evil plan.

You're putting a lambda in your lambda?

My DM has had to quit mid campaign. It's sad and I'll miss him and his unique take on dnd, but on the other hand it gives me an opportunity to roll up a new character, which is one of my favourite aspects of the game
A while ago I had a joke idea for a character concept: a spoiled posh boy who was about to flunk out of wizard college so took a warlock pact to be able to get access to magic and scrape through. I decided to try to make this into a genuine, non joke character so:
Horace Cholmondely (pronounced Chumley and he will correct you rather condescendingly if you get it wrong) is a half elven bastard son of a human lord who met and had a brief affair with a mysterious elven lady shortly after being widowed. Horace was left on his father's doorstep as a newborn, acknowledged but will never be able to inherit the title even if his older half brothers all die. He grew up with the wealth and privilege from being associated with his father's house, but none of the expectations or responsibility. When his wild ways became too much for his father to bear he was shipped off to a prestigious academy of wizardry where he promptly continued partying.
When the news mad it back to his father that Horace was still unable to cast the simplest of cantrips after years of very expensive tuition, lord Cholmondely made it clear that Horace had two choices: graduate within a year or be completely disowned and cut off from his stipend. Instead of buckling down and working hard for a year, Horace did what he normally did when a hard decision arose: use his power and influence to sidestep it.
Through his contacts he learned of a group who may be able to help him: the cult of Jaidaaso The Sane. Once he had proven his worth he was allowed entry into the inner sanctum where he met Jaidaaso in person: a powerful genie who provided Horace with his wish of the magic power to leave the academy with honour intact. In return, he was required to sign himself over to the genie and work to enrich himself and, by extension, his patron.
Still not fully forgiven by his father, and needing to forge his own way to satisfy his patron, Horace now travels as an adventurer for hire. As far as anyone is concerned he is a wizard with a legitimate degree from a prestigious school of magic. He keeps the true source of his power a closely guarded secret and is terrified that his father might one day learn of his shortcut to magical knowledge

Status: Sad. There won't be another Pathfinder CRPG anytime soon. Nocturnal bird slash felines are apparently making a cinematic "Russian Witcher" in UE5 now, to piss away what little goodwill people might have had for them.

Well, Kingmaker was a hot mess and by all accounts Wrath of the Righteouswas even worse, so maybe that's not such a bad thing?
-
@Mason_Wheeler Much as I'd love to tell you to put a rotten sock in it, because I really dig them, you're... not wrong. Covered in bees is a good way to describe it all.
But that's just it. Does a "Russian Witcher" seem plausible at all, given the results so far?
I don't think it's a good idea to pursue for anyone. I find Gerald so unlikeable taht I refuse to properly write his name. But my unpopular opinion aside, it's just overly ambitious. Nobody can make another Witcher. Not even CDPR themselves. And they will try, too.

I've been watching Exandria Unlimited: Calamity, and I have to say, that is one screwed up campaign. You know things are bad in Critical Role when Sam is the voice of reason!
Having said that, Brennan is a heck of a storyteller. I hope we can see more of him...

@Mason_Wheeler nope, the middle one works fine for 5-15.

@boomzilla I am in this post, and I do not like it.

If they go through with this (and if it's real), this will be grist for the "unexpected, but utterly expected by everyone else backfires" thread. Talk about murdering the goose that lays golden eggs. Especially if they try to restrict access to previously-purchased books without a subscription.
For those who don't know, D&D Beyond is the only legal way to access electronic copies of full D&D books, plus a character builder and a few other things. Their current model is
- Free tier includes a lot of stuff, including homebrew access and SRD access.
- You can buy individual books or pieces of content (down to the individual spell/feat level) and use them even on the free tier. Full books cost basically the same as the print version, and you have to re-buy them if you already own them physically if you want the digital copy.
- You can pay a subscription to raise the cap on characters and campaigns and to share content with other people in those campaigns. Except on the highest tier, you still have to pay for content separately. A full subscription. The Master tier (which is the second-highest), costs 54.99/year. So less than 2 months of their proposed Plus subscription.
Edit: confirmed to be a hoax. Good. Although I don't like the direction they're currently going, I didn't think they were suicidally dumb. Dumb, yes. This dumb? No.

Wizard? Hah! Both my ranger and my paladin can set things on fire with ease. (Ranger with a magical ring that allows him to set his arrows on fire as they are fired, paladin can enchant his axe with fire.) And I also did recently, by using my burning axe to set fire to the door to the enemy hideout so I could kick it in.
