Scanners do not affect the improvement of the internet.
They don't affect it, they neuter it.
Whine whine whine, but it doesn't negate my statement.

@El_Heffe masscan can scan lots of IPs much quicker than that.
How hard is it to even scan all of Austria? I know they look huge on a map, but the big interior section is just full of kangaroos.
The population is, like, 18 people and they all live on the coasts and if you keep them away from Foster's for a few hours you could just personally interrogate each Austrian if they're running any interesting, unsecured Internet services and they'd tell you so they could regain access to that sweet, sweet antipodean elixir.
God help anyone who invests in an Austrian cryptocurrency because the keys for that wallet are either going to be blurted out before the first shrimp hit the barbie or will end up going to the bottom of our stingray-infested oceans.

@morbiuswilters ... welcome back?
Also, we're talking about that little strip of land between Germany and Hungary that's the origin of both wars named "World War", not the vast wasteland near New Zeeland.

You seem to be using an interesting definition of "near." The shortest distance between NZ and mainland AU is 1644 km. (Tasmania is closer at 1487 km, and there are isolated islands that are closer still, some of which could be described as wastelands, but not vast.) On an astronomical scale, yes, they're near, but one does not usually use such a scale to describe features on a single planet.

Look, it's not my fault they chose to have the same name. They could choose different names, like "Kangarooland" or "Crocodile-Dundee-ville" or "Hitlerburg".
This is just like the Chris Rock / Chris Tucker thing all over again. Two loud, black comedians and I'm the bad guy because I am unable and too lazy to tell them apart.

Do you work for USPS? International mail must have the name of the destination mail written out in full; abbreviations are not acceptable. There's a story out there of a clerk who refused to accept mail for Austria, because "Austria is an abbreviation for Australia."
-
@TwelveBaud Just to confirm, you are aware that you've been trolled, right?
When I visited Austria as part of a longer trip to Germany, I bought a shirt that said "No kangaroos in Austria". It's just poor-quality tourist stuff though, so the design has a a fair few small patches missing and some thread came off. Which is a shame, because I used to wear it a lot.
-
@HardwareGeek That's related to being based in the United States of America; nothing involving USPS in particular.

They'd probably also reject international mail to Georgia (the country)?
-
@Zerosquare said in Researcher Scans All IP Addresses of Austria:
I don't either, but that's irrelevant. The companies manufacturing do care about support. So they're not going to implement better security at the expense of increased support costs.
Solution: whenever a security breach happens which exploits the default configuration of a device, fine the manufacturer of that device. The fine should be at least as high as the total revenue made from selling that device.

All the extra consonants in the rest of the address would be a sure tipoff that it's a prank.

This is going to frustrate @levicki even more: researcher scanning China's IP space finds a nuclear reactor control console.

They do toilet sales? That's a useful product!

Don't be dense, of course I am not connecting anything directly. I am just wondering why attempting a break in on a mass scale in a virtual world (the same world where you keep your money and passwords to all your property nowadays) is treated as harmless activity and as a matter of fact welcomed as if they are doing us a favor when they are clearly out there to self-promote and peddle their shit.
"You wouldn't download a car, would you?"
You wouldn't shoot a policeman. And then steal his helmet. You wouldn't go to the toilet in his helmet. And then send it to the policeman's grieving widow. And then steal it again!

It's a show, and it's amazing.

No, they're peddling them, so maybe bicycle seats for unhygienic nudists.

Reminds me of a story about Jock Semple, the former director of the Boston Athletic Association, but I'll leave that for another place.
