“I said, ‘Lee, if anybody shoots at you, I hope they’re as good a shot as you are’ — I meant that they would hit him and not me,” Leavelle told the Daily News in a 2013 interview. “And he said, ‘Nobody’s gonna shoot at me.’ Famous last words.”

Specifically, I thought it meant having the quality which inspires others to hit you with a stick.
The Rinzai Zen master found one of his students eminently clubbable.

Well then, Chirac definitely had that "quality" as well.

@blek Thanks to the summary bar mangling I read
Europe Singer dubbed 'Sinatra of the East' dies
And got two questions:
- Joey Tempest died?
- Joey Tempest was referred to as "Sinatra of the East"?

@Carnage There's a pretty steep increase in stupidity when the second poster starts adding to the list.
Actually, from what I've read of them, most of the comments following the original Tweeter are stupid.11. 10x engineers rarely job hunt or move out of the company. They move out because you make their life miserable with the process, meetings, training, and other non-value-added activities. If you come across them, hold on to them. Celebrate them.
This one is absolutely true.
Shekhar there is no such thing as a 10x engineer. This thread reads as an excuse to justify misanthropic behaviours in engineers like skipping meetings and not engaging in mentorship or peer review. Engineers are not a different species.
Oh, look, a talker that likes to waste my time with meetings or the sort of concern trolling that "peer review" turns into with these people. And then everybody's favorite trans e-celebrity joins in to cry about "brilliant jerks." Jesus. I'd rather work with a brilliant "jerk" than the mediocre type that the industry is positively overflowing with these days.
Edit: Oops, almost forgot. The instructor for my training class in two weeks died suddenly Monday. The guy was only like five years older than me but looked like he was 50.

Without knowing how old you are, this is a meaningless statement.

Are you complimenting or criticizing his looks?
-
@Gąska Let's just say he used Autobots and Decepticons in a training story. I'm not exactly criticizing...I was just really surprised to learn how old he wasn't. For what it's worth, he clearly knew the material and was good at presenting it and I had to overcome a huge "this is a waste of time" bias to reach that conclusion.

Not meaningless: We can thereby infer that @Zenith is < 45. The use of the word "like" implies that he's < 40.

Pretty much, man. "Like" used in this way, means "approximately". Thus he meant that his statement would have been true even if he had been off by 5 years either way.

So, to nitpick here, you don't need vocabulary choices to reach that conclusion. The structure of the first statement suggests that we're both under 50. "The guy was only like five years younger than me but looked like he was 50" would've been the opposite. Now, having established 50 as the upper boundary, we need an age that's high enough to be plausible but low enough to be a little shocking. Multiples of five are easy so let's go with 45. Subtract five from that and, voila, under 40.
It was later but the Autobot and Decepticon reference is a big giveaway, with their relevance in pop culture confined mostly to 1983-1986 and 2007-2011.
