Rumours: Microsoft to buy github
-
@gąska I had one occasion to use it. I looked up how to use it in a different case so I could understand what was going on. Took a few more examples but I got it. Now I can add context menu entries to anything I want easily, and every time I needed to use it other than that first I have been able to do so from memory.
Learn things. It's good for you.

If that happens do we have to change all of our branch names every month or so?
That happens now. It's called "Agile: we have to have a new release every sprint!"
Imagine having an agiley workflow where you're supposed to create branches for every damn thing you work on, and push them to the central repo, and then it being forbidden to remove branches in the central repo. >.<
Imagine working with VCS where branches are integral part of a commit so they never go away, but you can mark them as closed so they don't show up anymore if not needed. You should try to convince your project managers to switch to Mercurial!

Alas, a day has only so many hours.

And even then, it's actually less once you count the usable ones...

The description I saw elsewhere makes me want it though.
I'll try again later.
The default installation folder is inside
AppData\Roaming
.
I 'm not sure how I feel about that.
Oh, this is going well:
Ah, works like advertised. (y)

-
@zecc Just install it to AppData\Roaming then. Worked for me.
-
@zecc or run as admin.
-
@pie_flavor I did.

You should try this great OS called Linux. It sounds like it would perfectly fit your workflow, so it must be very very usable!
It is rather impressive how profoundly you've missed the point and proved @Gąska right here.
-
@ixvedeusi you should try this great thing called programming
is Linux really the only place you can see that sort of learning being required?

@jaloopa I'm almost seething over that Winston Churchill quote. Seriously, Linux Foundation? Fucking SERIOUSLY?!
Uh... why? From the tone of the piece they seemed to be focusing on the "In peace: good will" part.
-
@scarlet_manuka I don't like to see quotes about momentous things to be associated with trivial things.
-
@blakeyrat Suddenly your general rage at the world makes somewhat more sense.
-
@scarlet_manuka Understanding that is one small step for forum person, but one giant leap for forum personkind.
-
@pie_flavor Ask not what your forum can do for you, but what you can do for your forum.
Should we stop trolling Blakey now?
inb4 obvious response of "we shall troll him on the beaches..."

I've just started on this project, and the first demo for the first sprint was last friday, and there are already 12 or so branches that are just crud fouling the branch listing up.
But we must keep all the branches! What if we lose something!We're supposed to click the box to delete the branch when merging after the code review. Needless to say, we have hundreds of "BUG-<number>" type branches.
We discussed this lately (on a project). We usually do as well, but if we forget, GitLab has a button to delete all merged branches and that gets clicked now and then.

@pie_flavor in my defence, your jokes look exactly like your serious posts.
-
@gąska If I'm missing capitalization or a period, that's a good sign.

or a bad on, depending on the direction you are facing

If you're missing a period, you should go to the pharmacy and get a test kit.
-
@hardwaregeek No, that's what I should do if I'm getting one.
-
@pie_flavor , , yada, yada.
