It's complicated.

@Applied-Mediocrity Yes, Off is completely done from this side and needs to be turned.

Apple's visionOS allows for a cute exploit: manipulate a website, and the user sees cute spiders in his home. . Or bats flying around.
Can we recreate the special effects of Birdemic in the person's vision?

It seems like it's a rhetorical question anyway.

Found on reddit:
Asshole Design: I was planning to watch the soccer match.
Tip
Your OLED-TV will now be automatically calibrated for optimal picture. This will take approximately 90 minutes. During this the display will remain black. Please do not unplug the TV during this time.Of course, there's only an OK button and no "Fuck Off" button, because you don't own the things you buy.
-
@topspin That's their mistake - having one in the first place. I recently got a new one. Not OMG-LED, but ostensibly not the cheapest peanuts either. Nayobka, blyat! Worst purchase I've ever made, and the only reason I'm not crying is because I'm teeming with hate. I've done quite a few Nic Cage purchases (except at a fraction relative to my income), but this takes the cake by me naively expecting at least something about had to be worth a cent, and literally none of it is.
Fuck the entire industry with Utapauan monk cudgel.

Pretty much. I've quite enjoyed Louis Rossmann putting a banner on all his latest videos "Don't buy LG TVs, even their ā¬3000 models spy on you."
I'm mostly satisfied with the one I bought, but only because I jail-broke it, DNS-holed the lg.com domain, and put in a youtube-adblocker. I was foaming at clicking agree on the fucking T&Cs.Oh, I also messed with the home screen a bit, because fuck whatever they put on there. However, not as much as I'd like to, because even though I ostensibly know Qt, I don't understand the QML crap they're using.

What all of these companies are doing is really terrible.
On the other hand, connecting you TV to the Internet is just fucking stupid.
-
@topspin I've never even connected it to nets in the first place. None of the AI shit works, which just saves me the bother of being disappointed in yet another scam. Being a dumb panel (and frankly it's not excelling at its only job either NO I DONT WANT TO GET MY EYES STABBED OUT WITH WHITE-HOT DICKS AKA THE SCAM THAT IS HDR) is what it'll ever be. The home screen and all the Ƥpps have negative value to me. I've run a cable from my PC, where, despite industry's unyielding attempts to enshittify, stuff still mostly works. For now at least VRR seems to work, although I've read enough how that's not a given either.

Back to the OLED bildstellung shit, in another reddit post, because it doesn't go away despite the poor fuck selecting OK and actually waiting 90 minutes several times, they wonder if it's malware. And given the absolute state of
TVall software it's a real possibility.But it seems to be as simple as OLED doing the burn-in maintenance with some regularly scheduled fucking about. It's fucked somehow, but at least the original reason is clear. And if one could postpone it, you know most people would do and then forget about it, so manufacturer denied that option right away.

What possible calibration process that takes over an hour could there be that couldn't take place when it's "off"?
No, scratch that, what possible calibration can be done in which the screen is definitely explicitly off?!??

@Tsaukpaetra itās recharging the electrolytes?

I was foaming at clicking agree on the fucking T&Cs.
This is part of why I bought a Sony TV some years ago: research beforehand told me that you can decline their terms and conditions but still use the TV just fine. Oh, sure, it says something about not all functionality being available, but all that missing functionality is Internet-related. Iāve only hooked it up to the Internet three times since Iāve had it, to let it search for OS updates, so I donāt care.
-
@Tsaukpaetra Not sure.
@Zerosquare Sunday morning : I imagine the internal resistance of an LED changes as it degrades, and it could be measured to find the maximum brightness it's still capable of? And then the entire image would be being limited to that brightness so that the burn-in isn't seen.
