last read inconsistent between devices

Often, I'll read a topic, maybe post in it. This is at work on pc. Now I'm at home and go to that thread, say the status thread. It goes to a post I've already read. In fact it's a post before my reply. There's lots of posts I've already read. Happens randomly?
-
happens because your phone gets disconnected between then and doesn't receive the updated last-post list (presumably).
What's worse is that if you subsequently enter into a topic and do something that causes your bookmark to be updated, it will still update it to the earlier position because it doesn't know it should be further along. This is one of the reasons I track my thread position using alternative means.

Wat
The client is responsible for positing?

Yes, the client is responsible for updating the bookmark position. If it doesn't have the correct bookmark, it will send an update to do so. :D

Fucking hell the bug manifested on this thread too. More so: it dumped this thread in unread even though I read all the posts in this thread.
-
Any chance this can be fixed? I'm on my cell, and just went to status thread. It dumped me 2 weeks behind, when I last visited on this devices. But I know there's like 2 days of unread, so I have to page back manually until I find it. Annoying to the max
-
@lorne-kates are you opening the forum on your phone right before you click the status thread link or using a cached version of the page? I know that the bookmarks for each topic are queried on page load, not link click.

That's retarded. I can't think of any rational reason for this.

Well, if you would prefer to have the link always go to the first post in the topic, you could get it the other way. You can even do that now; just slam Home immediately after loading a topic.
-
@ben_lubar I've seen other forums with a
whatever.forum/t12345/unread
url that atuomatically goes to the unread post.

I want the link to always go to the last post read regardless of when I loaded the homepage on this particular device relative to my activity on other devices.

I always see this happen when the socket is disconnected, which it always retardedly does.
A hard refresh on idle NodeBB tabs before actually starting to use them again is almost mandatory, and it fixes the issue with it not having the current bookmarks.

Quoted for truth.

I think that in the beginning it was a hack that @ben_lubar made using what was available to the page template without having to hack anything internally. This was really early days for us and NodeBB.
