Celeste

A word of warning, this thread is full of spoilers.
If you just want to know what Celeste is, that's the name of the mountain.
It's a game about climbing a mountain.
So, I finished Celeste today.
And when I say "finished", I mean "I reached the summit, the credits played, and then I finished the epilogue, and then it asked me if I want to start the next chapter".
But I'm not allowed to start the next chapter. I need 4 but I only have 1. And 34 , but those don't actually do anything useful.
Anyone else who has the game or is thinking about getting it and wants to talk about it?

If climbing mountains is your interest, you should try:
-
@adynathos You forgot to add the smiley...
-
@adynathos Apparently it's made by the same guy who made GIRP, another great mountain climbing game.

made by the same guy who made
The ONLY reason I purchased Celeste is that it has music from Lena Raine and she wrote all of my favorite Guild Wars 2 tracks.

Maybe, but it's really based on Sexy Hiking by unwashed Japanese guy with huge ego.
-
At one point, Theo accidentally calls Madeline "Alex", which turns out to be his sister's name.
If your character is named Alex, as far as I can tell, he never accidentally calls you his sister's name, and...
-
@ben_lubar But more importantly, is she good at GIRP?

I quite enjoyed the track you posted on the Song of the Day thread.

Czech, actually.

Hey guys you know that feature I requested an hour ago?
https://twitter.com/NoelFB/status/963273953400700928
It's released now.
-
@ben_lubar Since you're posting this fucking everywhere, I'll post this everywhere:
-
@blakeyrat is 45 minutes of QA not enough for 10 minutes of development?
-
"So if I did break the entire game for certain setups I didn't test on, it'd only take an hour to fix.
Well, an hour after the issue is reported by a customer, who may choose to get a refund or complain to his friends instead.
Plus a few days if this happens on the weekend or while I'm on vacation"

The change in question is ignoring an accessibility setting in situations where it would be detrimental to the game and not actually provide any accessibility.
If that change can break the entire game, you've made a very poorly programmed game.
-
@ben_lubar Therefore, don't QA anything ever?
Not following your logic here.

Some changes need more QA than others, some don't need as much.
I can think of exactly three moments in the game where a change to that accessibility setting might make the game less accessible if done incorrectly: the end of chapter 4, the middle of chapter 5, and the start of chapter 6.
Even if they did get all three of those wrong (which they didn't), those three moments are all skippable cutscenes, so users who are unable to react fast enough can just skip them.
-
@ben_lubar Why are you white-knighting for this random-ass dev who doesn't test his shit, Ben? Does he pay you?
-
@blakeyrat he quite explicitly did test his shit. And he added a feature I requested for free. So in a way, yes, he did pay me.
-
Having just finished playing through it, this might be my favorite game of the year (so far).
This game is what Depression Quest should have been, and the artistic choices by the developers brilliantly convey subtle and not-so-subtle messages.

I made a thing that you'll probably be able to see tomorrow when the video finishes uploading.
