@boomzilla as much as I'm a privacy freak, I think Tinder would benefit a lot from ID verification.
-
@Gąska Do you have a roommate named Austin?

So, a friend of mine decided to try Tinder shortly before moving 3000 km to another country. Fast forward a few weeks, there's a sudden logout and an
Oops, something went wrong
every time the friend enters their phone number to log in again."Can you try logging in from your country? I'll send you the code."
I navigate to
tinder.com
, enter the phone number and don't get asomething went wrong
. Instead, my friend receives the phone verification code, I enter it and land in an empty account page.I guess it was predictable. Still, if only we didn't have to rely on the kind of services that arbitrary terminate our access to them according to their faulty machine learning with no meaningful appeal process. If only there was something we could have done differently...
-
: "Sir, have you tried moving back to your previous country and signing on again?"

Decide for once and all between the conversation and the whorehouse. If you're looking to acquire, you've picked the whorehouse. The next step is to close this sad, ugly thread.

@Zerosquare I applaud this effort to extract what little value is available from this resource.

Just saw a profile where the marquee photo (of just the person) had a date stamp visible on it. From 2014.

Hey! No -shaming!

I don't bother getting a photo taken more than once a decade; I basically don't age.

I did that once actually.
-
@Gąska Did it help?
“I thought that we were meant to lie down or put a paper bag over our head or something. That’s what they told us in the army.” “Will that help?”

Marry!

@DogsB fake, although straight.

The crazy:hot ratio also doesn't work in her favour, even for someone like myself.

@boomzilla OLD had poisoned the "out there" well as well.
-
Yeah, it's a shitshow. I mean, not getting a reply when you initiate a contact - oh, well, that's life, no harm done. But lately there's been a slew of weird ones where I honestly don't know what they were thinking.
- One woman wrote me, sounded interested - but before I could reply, she deleted her profile. (No, it wasn't a bot, or anything)
- Another one did reply but had me carrying the conversation.
- And then there was the one who wrote me, then had me carry the conversation and finally accused me of being not interested enough.
- Then there's the one who wrote me, I replied and she hasn't even read my reply for two days now even though she has been online.
- I also had the woman who I initiated contact but who then was offline for a month - well, it happens. I left the contact open in case she ever came back online. Which she did - she then replied that something had come up, apologized for keeping me waiting and thanked me for having patience. I replied again - and then nothing. Right.
Oh, and I also tried speed dating. Let's just say if there's an age bracket you should not be outside said age bracket by 5 years.

"Women are matched with men above them, but I don't understand why men are matched with women below them."
(of course, the charitable explanation is that they both get the same fraction of matches above/below them, which explains how she perceived it differently, but still...)
-
@remi hypergamy can sound kind of uncouth when you start talking about the details.

There are pretty clear signs that the OLD platforms themselves rig the game against men. They don't want to lose their paying users, so they give them just enough of a trickle to keep them on the platform. Her brother is a perfect example. His experience is crushing his soul, but he is still participating.

I finally realized what this acronym stands for. I must be getting....old....
I agree with your overall statement, just wanted to point out that it took me at least a full day to get that. Ugh.

Same here.
I would’ve probably abbreviated it as OD, which would also capture its general awfulness just nicely.

Serious question: Am I weird if I think that stating an occupation as a translator and the profile having several spelling errors doesn't make such a good match? I mean, aside from the usual teachers-gotta-teach thing.
Also, using basically the same picture twice just once from the right and once from the left does not make it better.

Why don't you send a message to point out the mistakes? I'm told people are very grateful when you help them get better.
-
@Zerosquare Yeah, that'll go over well.
Y'see, while this particular series is very much not my favourite one (in stark contrast to what you stated), at least even I know that it's spelled "Downton Abbey" whereas "Downtown" would probably constitute a rather different kind of series. Yo!
I can be very diplomatic at times!

I constantly judge people by their profile text making them sound uneducated.
Does that mean I’m saying you’re not weird for it? Probably not, people think I’m weird too.Still, if people can’t speak their native language, I lose interest.

I don't think it's weird, although it wouldn't be a deal breaker by itself. If she was otherwise scoring high then I'd at least swipe in whichever direction is the good one.
edit:
at least even I know that it's spelled "Downton Abbey" whereas "Downtown"
Oh. I'm not sure it's weird but if it's just this then it definitely doesn't matter. Especially when factoring in the whole multiple languages thing (which is probably a bigger thing for me who can only fluently speak one than you who can speak at least two).
-
@topspin Well, yeah, we're probably freaks.
I mean, I constantly examine the texts I write for variety and beat myself up if I used "also" twice in a row in the same sentence or similar.

It's not a "Tinder-alike" and this platform actually pushes you to provide a bit more info. She has filled out maybe 5% of that and only the two same-ish pictures.

It's not the only one but it stood out. Probably comes from my profession that I'm fixating on such details.

I wouldn’t have caught that one. To be honest, I actually would’ve assumed the correct one is the wrong one here. A single mistake isn’t a problem, anyway, only when I’m seeing a pattern. And for downtown this could’ve well been .

@Rhywden sounds like skipping is probably the right choice then

Another case, a profile I just saw: Person appears to be only interested in hooking up, so I'm like "eh, pass" and about to move to the next, but still read this line:
Can host from about 2.5 to 6.5.2.5? What?? Meters?
Do you mean half hours and that's supposed to be 2:30? Seriously, have you missed every day of school since the first day of primary?!Ignoring for a second that I'm not at all interested anyway, it's my time to ask: am I too picky?

More troubling, possibly, centimeters.
