Since we are in the unpopular opinions topic:
I don't like 'comics' , their franchise or films
-
@Luhmann as with many things with fans, I quite like some of the media but the raving fandom puts me right off. The reddit circlejerk is why I've never tried watching Rick and Morty

@Jaloopa I can testify that fandoms suck big black donkey dick dildos

ORMs are a freakin waste of time. Writing SQL by hand is at least twice as productive
While we're on the subject of
lazyautomated code generation, WYSIWYG web editors are also a waste of time. Writing HTML and CSS by hand is at least twice as productive (and five times as efficient). And if you need JS, writing that by hand is also more productive than tacking a huge JS library onto your site.

True, but having jQuery is quite useful

I've honestly never actually needed it, and in my experience it's just been used to further compound the idiocy of using JS to control simple UI appearances that could just as easily be done with a CSS selector (i.e. mouseover effects) with drastically less bandwidth and processing.
Now that I've said that, of course, I'm going to find jQuery a necessity for some new project tomorrow.

Most of the ones I see being done via JS are, actually.

The music was less fun, feeling like it was just there for the sake of "the first movie had a bunch of oldies, so this one should too," without really understanding how the music enhanced the scenes.
Disagree. I enjoyed every music number, though admittedly they tended to be less helpful to the scene as the movie progressed (the intro was probably the best use of music in the movie)
@masonwheeler said in The official unpopular opinions thread:
Baby Groot being really stupid was funny the first few times they did it, but it got old fast.
Disagree. Even the last ones were great. "That's why you don't like hats?", "Let's agree to never speak of this again.", "We're all gonna die.", "Assuming Groot doesn't kill us all..."
@masonwheeler said in The official unpopular opinions thread:
Drax felt completely out of character with his outbursts of raucous laughter at every little thing.
Disagree. He's exploring this grand new world of metaphor and it delights him and distracts him from the memories of his family.
@masonwheeler said in The official unpopular opinions thread:
Despite passing references to Thanos and the Infinity Stones, nothing happened that moved the wider MCU plot forward.
Given that they're continuing to set up multiple characters whose primary goal in life is to
Do Something Relevant to The Wider MCU Plot , and that a certain cataclysm occurred whichnamely, kill ThanosAffected Much of The Universe , again I disagree.Ego's expansion on at least two planets holding Infinity Stones in what may no longer be structurally sound and physically secure locations@masonwheeler said in The official unpopular opinions thread:
But the biggest "miss" was the ending. In the first Guardians, the villain was defeated ultimately by being way too serious and failing to realize that he's in a comedy, and it was great. But they didn't do anything like that this time; instead it came down to a standard superhero slugfest action scene.
Disagree. The slugfest action scene was almost a complete distraction from Your Favorite Character comedically killing the villain.
@masonwheeler said in The official unpopular opinions thread:
The film was OK, but it could have been a whole lot better with some attention to detail. To me this was the first MCU offering that really felt like "a sequel purely for the sake of having a sequel."
My main gripe with it was that the new choice of father for Peter seemed too over-the-top and forced. Also, Peter should be way more powerful than he is with lineage that much greater than his father in the comics.

Well here's one: in the context of my discussion of my experience with jQuery being idiotically used for simple UI appearance, I am referring almost exclusively to mouseover effects, and in the context of my discussion of jQuery being idiotically used for simple UI appearance in general, one example is mouseover effects. Whichever way you wish to interpret my statement still conveys the core idea that mouseover effects are a thing jQuery is used for when it shouldn't be, so it doesn't really matter all that much which interpretation you prefer.
Unless you're actually interested in information about me (which, if my experience on this forum is any indication, you probably aren't), in which case, "i.e." is a better choice because it conveys my experience with jQuery better.
-
@Fox said in The official unpopular opinions thread:

a thing, not the thing, so i.e. doesn't make sense.

Why would I need to carry on with that? I haven't been attempting to get a job I like for the past year because I have a job I like. Similarly, I'm no longer attempting to prove myself right

You forgot the case of buttons who have no business being JavaScript-driven, or even being buttons in the first place. E.g., buttons used for navigation.

It was a trainwreck if you got it pre-installed because almost all installs came with uber-shitty shovelware, and if you didn't have appropriate drivers. The same thing bugged Vista, too.
-
@Arantor It a trainwreck no matter how you installed it. Maybe there was some golden combination of hardware where it wouldn't crash if you looked at it funny, but I've never heard of such a system.
-
@Arantor @hungrier considering that it didn't even come with a finished version of IE, which was also its shell...
