Is there an equivalent of Wine but for Android instead of Windows?
Remix OS Player http://www.jide.com/remixos
I must be doing it wrong, I've waited over an hour at this screen...

@Tsaukpaetra Did you download the ISO and try running it in VirtualBox, or did you download the EXE installer and let it do its thing? "Remix OS" != "Remix OS Player"
Did the OS download.
Apparently the installer makes a hard disk image and copies the disc contents to it, and adds an entry to the grub uefi, which it installs.
Why use a fucking ISO format if it wasn't meant to be used as a disc then??!?!
Just to make sure we're talking about the same thing...

Shouldn't involve VirtualBox at all. The file I downloaded wasn't an ISO, it was aRemix OS Player.exe
with a 7zip icon (it's a self-extracting archive). I extracted toC:\
and it spit out aRemixOSPlayer
directory containing aRemixOSPlayer.exe
. From there it's just like in the video, except that on the machine I'm testing on it doesn't like my hardware.

Android emulation used to be much much worse.
I had a Quad Core 6600 and 8GB of ram on my Win 7 system in 2008, I had problems running Android 3 / 4 in emulation on hardware that wouldn't be considered rubbish now.

@lucas1 it was awful. Several minutes to start the emulator up, and at least 30 seconds to deploy a new build, which would then be super laggy and crash more often than not (that last bit might just be my less than stellar Android coding skills)

@LB_ If you want to run Android programs on desktop, there is a Chrome extension which can do that:
