@Tsaukpaetra According to the thread boomzilla just linked, it's definitely hitting plenty of other people too. If I were running that project, I'd be looking for commonalities with my users' installations and be trying to repro them internally. Because while it may be that the amount of use matters, it doesn't seem like anyone knows for sure either way.

@Magus said in Refreshrefreshrefreshrefresh:

assuming the owners of said installations really know anything about debugging said installation enough to provide insight much better than "well, I followed the commands you gave and it said "latest" on everything..." ;)
-
@Tsaukpaetra Then it's fairly unlikely that they have any addons or differences in their installation.

Depends. How easy is it to click-install an addon in NodeBB? Asking for myself, because I obviously don't have NodeBB installed myself and am no an admin for any such.

@Tsaukpaetra said in Refreshrefreshrefreshrefresh:

Very easy. They're published via npm, as so long as the compatibility is marked as OK, they show up in the admin panel. We don't do that here any more, but I'm sure that most people do.
-
To be perfectly clear: This is not normal. The forum staff are doing their best to figure out what's causing it to make it stop. Your patience is appreciated.

Except, presumably, @boomzilla, who is infamous for not doing his job, and has in fact spent most of the day arguing with me about how terrible my reading comprehension is for not being able to read his mind.

Hmm. In that case then, perhaps the next release of NodeBB includes a (opt-in) shim that collects usage statistics and send metrics every time the watchdog process has to kill the instance?
People won't gather the useful things themselves, you must make it one-click (or less) bug report to get anything from the average user.

-
@Fox Boomzilla is doing a good chunk of the work, probably second-most after Ben.

Epiphany moment: Is this why Microsoft gets everyone's computers to send memory dumps for every crashed program in Windows despite the devs of said programs never opting in to have that happen?
-
@Yamikuronue No one at tdwtf should have to do this. This should be the dev team's primary focus, since it's causing frequent crashes for multiple clients. That's the part I find worst about all of this.
-
@ben_lubar said in Refreshrefreshrefreshrefresh:
that's a TDWTF-only thing.
Then, push it to the main branch as an opt-in like I suggested, and mayhaps that metadata submission would go along with it?

@Magus OK. But the situation is what it is regardless.

No one at tdwtf disagrees with that. But tdwtf is filled with people who are impatient with waiting and aren't afraid to roll up their sleeves with this sort of thing.

Would it make you feel better if I were doing it instead of IRL stuff I'm supposed to be doing?

I went to post an update in the nodebb's forum thread, and I'm stuck trying to confirm my email

@boomzilla Who is it you keep responding to, btw?

I didn't say you were NodeBB support, Blakey.

There wasn't nearly enough insults and whaargarbl there for that to be a proper blakeyrant.

As a matter of fact, I did turn it off, but not back on again.
Before anyone asks, I'm on a different one at the moment.

Ah, sorry. I'm feeling a little sensitive, need to cap som triggers I think...
-
@boomzilla But I thought you retired some eighty years ago?
-
@Fox I can assure you, I'm still Stooging up the world.
-
@Tsaukpaetra said in Refreshrefreshrefreshrefresh:
The issue is that even with basic testing, I double it would be sufficient to catch the issue, because it seems to only happen through TDWTF-levels if usage, and (obviously) the devs don't have that kind of test bench to try it with.
At the risk of posting in this shitty thread of awfulness...
WHY DON'T THEY BUILD ONE?!
Are they so dedicated to their principles of "never testing software in any way ever" that they refuse to even CONSIDER building a test tool to produce enough load to reproduce this error? How fucking useless are these software "developers".

Ooh, I can answer that. Latest and greatest Office on latest and greatest Win10 Enterprise. Outlook crashed twice and Skype for Business crashed once today.

Dunno, whatever IT installed before they handed the PC to me. Outlook does have some crap I never use, but I don't know whether it's third-party or MS's own crap.

I know, right? Sure, JMeter's interface is terrible, but it's not THAT hard to figure out how to put in a request and ramp it up to 1,000 users.

And for today's episode, we have Outlook becoming unresponsive and having to be killed, then later crashing again immediately followed by "Windows error reporting has stopped working."

Well, my machine doesn't let me complete the logon process for some reason. I get auth'd, see the lovely domain message, and then disconnect. This happens on any account, so no skipping to the secondary admin account I created for situations like these....
