We were doing what the UK does. We love tax evasion when it suits us.
BTW all the money in the world goes through London and not anywhere else. We don't have an empire anymore but we control the money of the world in one form or another.
We are basically the Iron Bank (GoT reference for you) of the world ... if your ignore Switzerland which is armed up the wazoo with mountains around it.
-
@lucas1 I don't know who "we" is but thanks for contributing to the thread?

Thank you. @blakeyrat can't seem to fathom
"We were doing what the UK does. We love tax evasion when it suits us."
Is referring to the UK, which is where I live ... as I have said and joked about hundreds of times on this forum so far. Considering the number of times I have said I was from the UK, made UK based references and have made slurs against our friends here from the Bold Eagle Land ... I have no idea how anyone can think different.
-
@lucas1 "The UK were doing what the UK does"? Fine, whatever, thanks for your gibberish contribution.
-
@lucas1 said in The US: saving the world from itself PART II: Electric Boogaloo:

um... that's like, the opposite of what I said, actually. No thanks required, it makes you look sarcastic.
I don't keep track of where everyone lives, that's ridiculous.
hold on, I feel a little @blakeyrat coming on...
-
You said
The UK shielding them and protecting them and wetting their pants in fear.
I said (I am from the UK)
We were doing what the UK does. We love tax evasion when it suits us.
I was saying that it is usual for us to be complicit in such things, as all the money moves through London.
Unfortunately you are thick as shit (or pretend not to understand whichever you choose that day) and didn't get that I was agreeing with you.
-
I know I haven't been around here forever, but I frequently say in other thread with the OP that I am from the UK and a lot of frequent forum posters should have seen those post.
https://what.thedailywtf.com/topic/19905/is-deploying-to-docker-containers-now-a-thing/262
I said this less than an hour ago and most of the people posting now had posted there.
-
@lucas1 My brain doesn't retain information I don't give a flying fuck about.
Look, if you're going to come into a forum and communicate, then communicate. Don't suddenly out-of-nowhere introduce this strange "we" entity, then pretend it's everybody else's fault they didn't somehow telepathically know who "we" is.
-
@blakeyrat I was communicating and I commuicated quite clearly. When asked for clarification, I clarified.
Unfortunately for whatever reason I seem to be communicating with a fucking idiot i.e. you.
-

Seen doesn't necessarily equate to "memorized like a savant".
@lucas1 said in The US: saving the world from itself PART II: Electric Boogaloo:

I have very low limits on what I can recall, such trivia such as "where does X internet personality claim they are located IRL" rarely stays in level 3 for much longer than it takes to turn to the next page; this kind of information is not typically useful unless I'm actively attempting to avoid microaggressions.
-
@Tsaukpaetra From that last sentence I know you are trolling.
-
@lucas1 said in The US: saving the world from itself PART II: Electric Boogaloo:

None of the three people other than you in this thread had a clue what you meant. Perhaps you should consider that the quote above is not as correct as you seem to think it is. In particular:
@lucas1 said in The US: saving the world from itself PART II: Electric Boogaloo:
We were doing what the UK does.
I know the idiom you meant to use here, but it doesn't work without either obvious context (which does not include "I've posted my location before in other threads!"), or clear repetition of the relevant noun (e.g., "That's the UK doing what the UK does. We love tax evasion when it suits us.").
@Tsaukpaetra and I both assumed you meant for "We" to be "The USA", and @blakeyrat, sensibly and predictably, refused to listen to any such shoulder aliens and pointed out that you didn't actually disambiguate "We" in your first sentence.
-
@Dreikin I've posted my location through actually saying where I am, Slurs on others using "American Spelling", saying where I am in the UK, more jokes about the UK etc.etc.
There is a link to everything I said ever on the forum via a link just in case ... anyone didn't get that.
Then I made a joke about the fact that I agree with the poster that the UK is corrupt ... and the fucker gets confused with me!
This is ridiculous.

@lucas1 said in The US: saving the world from itself PART II: Electric Boogaloo:

Yes. However, the ridiculousness isn't from everyone except you - you're stubbornly refusing to acknowledge that others don't have the same frame of reference as you, and blaming them for not knowing (or going out of their way to investigate!) some particular fact about you that would have disambiguated the sentence. And when it was made clear that was the case, you got upset at other people for not understanding what you'd meant, because apparently they weren't paying enough attention to memorize little - and largely irrelevant - details about some random other person who happens to visit the same forum (i.e., you).
There are good reasons proofreaders and editors exist, and one of those reasons is that something which is clear and/or obvious to the writer is not necessarily clear and/or obvious to anyone else.
-

I wasn't writing an essay to refute anything about a particular subject.
I made an off-the-cuff comments, which I felt made a particular point, with a little bit of humour (I thought it did).
I had said several times before this thread I was from the UK and being from the UK I would make jokes and references assuming other people knew I was from the UK. I made several jokes in the thread that said I was from the UK.
So I dunno why I am the fucking asshole here.
-

I wish. :(
@lucas1 said in The US: saving the world from itself PART II: Electric Boogaloo:

Again, assuming the people who might see your post follow you along like a stalker taking notes about the things you say.
@lucas1 said in The US: saving the world from itself PART II: Electric Boogaloo:
So I dunno why I am the fucking asshole here.
I dunno why you think I follow you and have a shrine to you that tells me you're from the UK.
Can you guess how often I have made references to my mental state and capabilities? Yet somehow you think that my referencing facts about how my memory works makes me a troll.
-
I said loads of times I was from the UK and I am English, on lots of subjects all over the forum.
TBH I am too tired. But as far as I am concerned this is very disingenuous.
I actually had no disagreement with @blakeyrat on this thread, yet pepole are saying I am arguing ...
If the questioning is going to go as "you are an arsehole" on here I won't be answering.
-
@lucas1 said in The US: saving the world from itself PART II: Electric Boogaloo:
If you want to break that down further than that to make me look like some sort of moron, go ahead.
I'm not saying you're a moron. I don't have enough information or training to make that judgment (go see a psychologist or psychiatrist if you're worried about it).
I'm saying that this:
@lucas1 said in The US: saving the world from itself PART II: Electric Boogaloo:

@lucas1 said in The US: saving the world from itself PART II: Electric Boogaloo:
Unfortunately for whatever reason I seem to be communicating with a fucking idiot i.e. you.
@lucas1 said in The US: saving the world from itself PART II: Electric Boogaloo:

Isn't what you should have jumped to when everyone else you're talking to is confused as to what you meant. You skipped right over the step "Check if what I wrote might not be as clear to them as it is to me" and went right to "That person is a fucking idiot if they don't understand what I meant". And when it was pointed out to you that it wasn't as clear as you thought, you started sticking to "But you should know where I live! I've brought it up in all sorts of places that aren't here and which you've probably forgotten about!".
@lucas1 said in The US: saving the world from itself PART II: Electric Boogaloo:
So I dunno why I am the fucking asshole here.
The important point of your comment (what "We" refers to) was clarified pretty quickly. Had it been left at that, everything would have been fine. But you kept insisting that it's everyone else's fault for not knowing where you're from, and that it is a failure on their part that they didn't immediately comprehend what you meant.
-
@lucas1 said in The US: saving the world from itself PART II: Electric Boogaloo:
I said loads of times I was from the UK and I am English, on lots of subject etc etc.
Certainly, in this topic, and perhaps in others. But, I repeat, this relies on the idea that the one reading your joke has sufficiently been following you long enough to recognize that you've said as much and to remember it.
This is obviously not the case.@lucas1 said in The US: saving the world from itself PART II: Electric Boogaloo:
yet peole are saying I am arguing ...
You are arguing that it was entirely obvious that because you said elsewhere that you are from the UK, that here people should have remembered this tidbit and make a lateral connection that "we" referenced "you" as in "being part of the group of people in the UK".
I (and others) have contended that context gained elsewhere isn't necessarily known in general, nor should it be expected, unless such context is so obvious that external research isn't required to "get the joke".
@lucas1 said in The US: saving the world from itself PART II: Electric Boogaloo:
If the questioning is going to go as "you are an arsehole" on here I won't be answering.
I'm not questioning that, I'm trying to tell you why your reasoning is flawed.

Agreed.

I can't be bothered to do a quote pyramid. Most of what I said was in slight jest.
This is the last forum I would expect that every word I say is 100% truth because it obviously isn't
-
@lucas1 said in The US: saving the world from itself PART II: Electric Boogaloo:
I can't be bothered to do a quote pyramid. Most of what I said was in slight jest.
Then, accept that your joke fell flat and left people stumbling, and move on. I have over 41k of them (fuzzy count), and I don't get into a pissing match about it...
-
No because I have some truth and sarcasm in there, and I expect you to have some fucking brains and make a fair judgement.
Obviously I was expecting too much.

No because my fucking jokes don't work like that you fucking moron.
In anycase, you guys have raged against a guy that had no problem with you. Well done!!

I'm not the one raging.
-
@Tsaukpaetra Well you and the other guy had a torrent of comment before I even replied, so probably yes you are mad. I have no idea about what.
Look I can't be bothered with this. Why don't you ask @blakeyrat why he made such a subject in the first place.
-
@lucas1 said in The US: saving the world from itself PART II: Electric Boogaloo:
so probably yes you are mad.
Today I learned writing (attempted to be) well thought-out responses indicates you might be mad.
@lucas1 said in The US: saving the world from itself PART II: Electric Boogaloo:

I'm not mad, just confused at why you would think that people follow you like lost puppies enough to know where you live. That's just creepy sir!
-
The very initial post in this thread mentioned the UK where I fucking live. Why do you keep on ignoring that?
The UK shielding them and protecting them and wetting their pants in fear.
And I replied and now I wish I hadn't.
-
@lucas1 said in The US: saving the world from itself PART II: Electric Boogaloo:
The very initial post in this thread mentioned the UK where I fucking live. Why do you keep on ignoring that?
So, the OP said, "Hey, @lucas1 lives in the UK, which he said he's from elsewhere too!"?
I don't recall that happening, and frankly, no, I haven't read posts where you mentioned that you live there (or, conversely, recall that as a significant fact important to me that you live there).
@lucas1 said in The US: saving the world from itself PART II: Electric Boogaloo:
now I wish I hadn't assumed that people keep an accurate profile about random people on a forum, including their relative living location.
Yeah, no.
-
No they didn't say that. But I been posting here for a while ... so I dunno about you I would allow a little leeway.
You can do this yourself and try not to be an arsehole.
FYI: I think by now you are trolling or @blakeyrat so well done either way you have convinced me that you are troll or
@blakeyrat
-
@lucas1 said in The US: saving the world from itself PART II: Electric Boogaloo:
But I been posting here for a while ... so I dunno about you I would allow a little leeway.
Again, this is my confusion: Assuming that just because you've been posting a while (apparently constantly referencing that you're from the UK), everyone should have picked up on that to the point that it's common knowledge.
I've been here, what, two years? I don't presume anyone, no matter how long you've known me, knows where I live.
@lucas1 said in The US: saving the world from itself PART II: Electric Boogaloo:
You can do this yourself and try not to be an arsehole.
Do what myself? Allow you to assume other people know a bunch of trivia about yourself and make jokes about it?
No thanks, I've learned at least that much that that kind of thing alienates you from conversations.@lucas1 said in The US: saving the world from itself PART II: Electric Boogaloo:

I can't be bothered anymore, so you are right. Be happy and correct.

@lucas1 said in The US: saving the world from itself PART II: Electric Boogaloo:

Today I learned answering questions about why everyone is being a jerk makes me an asshat. Also, apparently so doing "makes myself look nice".

I can't be bothered anymore, so you are right. Be happy and correct.Obviously you do, else this thread would not have derailed for 32 posts, but I digress.
I'm not happy, because you're not happy. Obviously we are both unique in our own worldviews, but I'm not allowing that to affect my judgement to the point of name-calling and smack-talking.
If you're not happy, it's not because I'm making you feel that way.

@Tsaukpaetra even if you find lucas to be so unremarkable that you didn't care to memorize anything about him, the polite thing would be not to make a huge deal about it.
-
@cartman82 said in The US: saving the world from itself PART II: Electric Boogaloo:

I'm not making a deal, he is. ;)
My position is: Hey, sorry your joke relied on information not everyone knows, but you can't expect people to just know stuff about you (it could have been eye color, the type of car he drives, the data doesn't matter).
His position is: Hey, I talk about myself all the time, so when I make a self-deprecating joke, I find it insulting that you don't recognize it because I talk about myself everywhere. All I've said so far, is that pushing your expectations of what other people should passively absorb about you is unrealistic and unfair, and it shouldn't make you blow up just because someone 'd.
-
@Tsaukpaetra , @Dreikin kudos to yours efforts to clean communications, and for not to decay to sting and name calling when that failed.
