Ooh! When we get bots again, maybe we can have cross-translation?

Where exactly can I find the IRC channel? Preferably server and channel info for use with a real IRC client, not just some stupid web frontend.

the good thing about irc is that it forgets the lame stuff I write there. stop ruining irc

[4/4/16 15:59:37] --> JarryBot (~nodebot@<IP>) has joined this channel. [4/4/16 16:04:58] <Onyx47> oh man [4/4/16 16:05:08] <Onyx47> what does this thing do? [4/4/16 16:05:11] <Onyx47> !recent ? :P [4/4/16 16:06:44] <Boner> Jarry had a terrible accident, but they rebuilt him. They had the technology.

@fbmac You could also go undercover …
-
@abarker Well, he was Onyx48 once...
Personally, I bought it.

-
@ben_lubar I hear math is hard.
-
@ben_lubar if "in a row" can be stretched to mean "over a course of several hours", you still can't count.
-

@ben_lubar said in The IRC quotes Thread:

Aww, Ben, someday you'll understand dry humor.

More like flakey. It's been a while since it was dried up...
-
<Onyx47> we did a lot of likes thread in our youth <yami`work> I never inhaled

[14:56] <BenLubar> but it doesn't make sure each page has the full number of posts [14:56] <BenLubar> imagine if you were reading a book and each page had a random number of lines of text on it [14:59] <aliceif> ben ... have you ever read a book? [14:59] <aliceif> EVER?
-
@Yamikuronue That'd be more accurate if he'd said "words" though.
-
@FrostCat So you haven't read a book either, then?
-
@Magus said in The IRC quotes Thread:

I wrote something about this and then deleted it and I guess that last part was a mistake.
Books'll generally have the same # of lines on a page, except for the start and end of a chapter. Books with pictures are obvious exceptions.

still same number of lines. gotta count the blank lines too.
images and diagrams are a different matter.

No, like, some books have gaps that aren't regular line heights, sometimes between paragraphs or block quotations. Authors can basically do what they want.
-
@Magus said in The IRC quotes Thread:

aye.
fine then.
within a reasonable variation, bounded by a set of reasonably narrow error bars to be determined based on the contents of each printed book there are the same munber of lines on every page of a book that does not include a chapter title, illustration, or other paragraph beaking typography
-
@accalia There are other points I could make, but I choose to avoid the wrath of the Good Fox of the East. I like having ankles.

-
@accalia Well, I just don't know why you'd have to count lines of blank as lines of text, especially in a world where books have random runs of black pages or chapters that are only half a page long. It's all pretty random.
-
@Magus said in The IRC quotes Thread:

simple!
because they are lines that have been left blank for artistic expression.
:-)

<BenLubar> pointers are great <BenLubar> except when I'm iterating in C++ <BenLubar> and then I have to do stuff like (*foo)->bar <Onyx47> :doing_it_wrong: <Jarry> it should be (*lu)->bar
-
@Magus said in The IRC quotes Thread:

Gee, it's almost like I deliberately used the word "generally" to indicate that sometimes it's not true, but usually it is. Oh, wait!
-
Books aren't expected to have an equal number of lines in pages.
Authors can and do anything they want with it's spacing.
-
-
@ben_lubar He spaces out the threads a lot with deleted posts, he knows what he's talking about very well.

This post is deleted!

@error The rests in each of those bars aren't tied. How do I know if I should hold the silence, or start a new one!?

@FrostCat You'll be fine as long as you obey the time & key signatures.
