Hahah it's still shit
-
So, Discourse has been Jeffed. We still have "pretend infinititititite scrolling" (albeit somewhat faster than before), and "reloading of things as they change", but the thread list still throws up the "something has changed, click here to reload" bar of fail.
Give it up, for fuck's sake. It's still not better than phpBB.
Also, the edit box runs off the bottom of the window, especially if I have a list of downloads at the bottom of the screen, so I can't see what the fuck I'm typing.
Fuck this shit.

Profile setting to turn that off.

Long story short, servercooties was crashing the forum.

Use the resize thing. They even made it have a different icon just for us.
-
"Use the resize thing"
Fuck that noise. This is on the default setting. If I size it up to "can't see any other fucking thing on the screen", it works, kinda, but the entire point of having a scrollable pane is that I can see something in the other pane.
There
Is
too
much
wasted
space
in
this
fucking
interface
because
it's
"modern"
Also, "edit" is hidden two clicks away under a badly laid out menu. I'll try out the not-pretend-infinite-scrolling thing, see how badly that fucks up.
-
@tufty Also, what's with the Reply box taking up the entire screen when I'm on a desktop? I can understand that for mobile, but what does a text entry box need to be 960^1 x 1080^2, especially since there's no preview window?
^1 960 because I use half-screen-wide browser windows
^2 Well, more like 880-980 because of the top barsAlso, no markdown support for SuperScript? Fuck it, I'm too lazy to try to fix it.
-

Actually, scratch that. I can't even find the profile settings.
Fuck this for usability. It's almost as bad as Discourse.
Example : Submit and discard buttons are miles away from the data you're submitting.

was profile->settings too hard?
-
It's so WHITE
I feel microagressed, can we fix it?
-
@tufty said:

Click avatar in top right > Click username > Click the three-dot stack button > Click Settings
I'll admit, it's not great
-
Here's a good one. Autocomplete shits itself if you delete the text it's trying to autocomplete
-
@Yamikuronue In your settings you can change skins a dark one for example..
Filed Under: Though I had to use some stylish to make the one I am currently using work...

Show me the link to that, where it says "profile->settings". Or just "settings", I managed to find "profile", despite it being hidden behind a rather unintuitive second click on a dropdown from my profile avatar.
This.
Is.
Not.
Usability.
-
So whatever's different on my machine is clearly what everyone shuold do:
-
-
So, when you get to your profile, there's three icons that show up in that blank space and mousing over them does NOT tell you what they do.
-

Darkly's a good theme; dark without being like staring into the infinite abyss
-
@tufty Agreed, it's rather hidden.

Those let you change the background photo.
-
-
quite.
Here's another thing...
I have a lot of horizontal space to kill. In this world of wide screens, I suspect we all do. Not so much vertical, but hey. So we have "reply" and "quote", but "edit", "delete" and "bookmark / like" (whatever the fuck that actually is, it says bookmark but has a "like" icon) are hidden 2 clicks away. The UI has taken up that entire row for buttons, it's not like it's flowing text around it, why not just show all the fucking buttons
Oh, and if you happen to click on the "ellipsis" "menu" (I suppose I should be thankful it's not a "hamburger"), and it happens to be at the bottom of the screen, guess where it renders?

Which is cool, but I didn't realize it wouldn't tell me that.
-
I recognize those skins. They're Bootswatch's skins for Bootstrap. Unmodified. So this shit happens:
-
I also just realized I can't scroll down far enough for the edit window to let me edit what I just said when I realized someone already said it.

It is, but it breaks the "go to last unread post" toaster. That one's just white now.

Drag the ^v arrow
-
@asdf It breaks a few more things than that, sadly; I might go back to the default for now

Oh holy crap! That's what that does? Man, that's really kinda hard to see for it actually fixing that problem.
Tho, it DOES fix the problem, so that's good.
-
@Yamikuronue Yeah… I switched back to the default theme

Also, ellipsis menu on someone else's post:
I still don't know what the "Bookmark 0 " thing does, but I guess self-flagging is no longer possible.

you do get the ability to say something like @mods now, though.
-
If you go to your profile page, under the three-dot button is a Bookmarks option
-
I have to say, I don't share this forum's love for ellipsis menus.

And how does that relate to the Bookmark 0 on a post's ellipsis menu?
-
It shows you the posts you've bookmarked

I knew we should have gone the "fork discourse" route!

Am I going to get a notification for every post action on every post of mine?
Also, register this as my extreme distaste for the global unread inbox flag. I'm going to go to bed tonight and wake up and never again be caught up because holy fuck shit we post a lot.
-
Yes, including bookmarks, thanks @Tsaukpaetra
-
@Yamikuronue Agreed. Liked, faved, subscribed (automatically)
-
-
@Yamikuronue Well, from what I can tell you got two options:
a) You fork over the $1.000.000
or
b) you will have to go through A LOT of post interactions tomorrowFiled Under: :evil_laugh:

It's really fucking annoying.

Looks like your FF doesn't like web fonts.

You thought discosearch was bad?
I just searched for the magnificent dissertation Lorne_Kates posted regarding Discourse and the faults thereof, to see if nodeBB managed to resolve any of them.
Search for lorne_kates
28 results returned.
I suspect that lorne_kates has, in fact, posted more than 28 times. Hell, I'm absolutely certain he's been @mentioned more than that.

Agreed. Should definitely have more options in the Notifications settings area of profile settings...
-
Also annoying: seeing the unread notification toaster while you're in that topic and watch the new post streaming in. Yes, I saw that post, thankyouverymuch.
