So they fixed a bug 4 minutes after you reported it? Lemme guess, they're putting bugs in on purpose so they can look like they're responsive to feedback.

No, they fixed the bug 1 minute after I reported it.

Status: Noticed User bookmarks are SO much farther away now in NodeBB.
Can we get that back in the top-bar links again?Status: A little annoyed that clicking a topic from the list doesn't automatically bring me to the latest post I've read to.
Why would I ever want to start back at the top again?!?!

Maybe there's some magic link in a different spot than what we're used with Discourse? Phpbb for example hides it under a "Topic read" marker while the other links take you to the start or end of the topic.
-

I dunno, there's substantially less clickable things in topic lists now. Basically, title = First post, Time description (i.e. 5 minutes ago) on the right = latest post.
-
I guess we could make a category for
Can TL3s recategorize threads? I want to be able to move every thread I don't care about to a "ignored by Zecc" category.
-
Yup - click that makes them appear as notifications. The other option being Unwatch. And unwatched topics come up in Unread anyway. I want them to stop.
On a per-topic basis.
After I've decided I don't want to know about them (unless flagged of course.) I do want to know about new topics.
Exactly this.
Do we need to create a "Discourse did it better, believe it or not" thread on TDWTNodeBB?
-
Oh right, dumb question.
What do tags do?
-
-
Create XSS vectors, hopefully.

Do we need to create a "Discourse did it better, believe it or not" thread on TDWTNodeBB?
No, but we will.

I do want to know about new topics.
Me too, is there any way of adding a "new topics" section? I care more about seeing new topics before I go trawling existing topics for new posts.
-
Status: A little annoyed that clicking a topic from the list doesn't automatically bring me to the latest post I've read to.
It seems Nodebb doesn't track your "Unread" status on the server:Because NodeBB stores that bit of information on the client side, the topic lists likely don't do any effort to generate a "last unread" link.
EDIT EDIT: You know what, the unread tracking might have changed in the last 10 months. Let's test this.

+1 for this feature request
-
Is it possible to migrate bookmarks to NodeBB from Discourse?
It seems your install at discourse.local.lubar.me has none of my bookmarks, was it just too much trouble to get them on your install or isn't that implemented yet?
-
No reason not to have the local information checked on click anyway, is there?
Also, that seems like a weird decision, I mean even the toxic hellstew forums do this within certain capacity, don't they?
-
Wait... am I correct in understanding that NodeBB will not bring me to the first unread post of a thread when I use a different device?
Man, that is retarded... even friggin' phpBB gets that right.
-
How the fuck does one disable the display of signatures over there?
-
If there isn't an option available, you can use Stylish:
div.post-signature { display: none; }
-
Are avatar changes going to be preserved?
-
For whatever reason that needs an
!important
as well, but otherwise works as advertised.
-
Ah, it looks like there's a
.topic .post-signature
rule taking precedence.CSS really is a dark art...
-
I turned off images in signatures. Because fuck those guys.
-
I also asked a question about moderators and flags...
-
Seriously!?
How did it take this long for someone to point out this WTF. So if I go grab my Fire and start surfing, it's forgotten every thread was ever read and starts at the top!? Then when I go back to my desktop, I have to re-read stuff read in my Fire because now my desktop's out of date?
That's REALLY going to be a pain in the ass, considering I browse this forum pretty much exactly 50/50 between my home and work computers.
Plus it something that FUCKING COMMUNITY SERVER GOT RIGHT. Remember when we had the big discussion about switching forums, and I mentioned how pathetic it is that no forum in 2015 had the same feature grid a CS did in 2008? Yeah. That.
WTF software developers everywhere! Why would you build a forum product if you don't even give 1/3rd of a shit for making it better than the ones that came before? You haven't even made it ON-PAR!
-
I browse this forum pretty much exactly 50/50 between my home and work computers.
Fuck, how did I miss that -- this is insane bullshit. I'm going to be fucked over the exact same way here. I currently read every thread that isn't marked with a flame or the Status thread; if I can't keep track of what I've read and what I haven't, I'm going to probably drop down to only following certain threads and essentially drop off the forum, like when we were on CS and I forgot what my password was so I only picked through a few threads every few months.
Can we submit a PR?
-
Fuck, how did I miss that -- this is insane bullshit.
I never even tried this stupid forum, so I blame everybody who isn't me and did try it but didn't say anything about it.
Especially Ben L.
-
I'll admit, I logged in for a few hours from my home PC, shrugged, and wandered off again. It doesn't feel like a huge change from Discourse, so I figured, everyone says it's better, I'll go with that.
-
I just assumed my opinion about whether to accept it or not would be utterly ignored like last time someone asked me that and didn't bother.
-
What the fuck is everyone complaining about? I've been trying out Ben's NodeBB forum from three devices (home laptop, work PC, android phone) and if I read a post on one device it shows up as read on the others.
-
I'm going by what people have posted here. If it's wrong, take it up with them.
I just said I haven't used it myself.
-
I just said I haven't used it myself.
If you did, you'd spend less time complaining about problems that don't exist, so you can get back to complaining about the ones that do.
-
I think you are wrong here. I've been testing it and I can tell you for a fact NodeBB does not maintain the post I last read in a topic. So if I join a topic with 20 posts, and I read the first 5, when I return, even using the same session, I can go back to the beginning or to the end, I can't got to post 6.
Okay, so I've been playing with this for the past hour and now finally it starts to show a popup (bottom right corner) saying I can jump to the last unread post after I enter a topic at the beginning again. But I have to enter it at the beginning again for it to popup versus it just taking me to my last unread post immediately.
-
No repro. I just did that here: https://community.nodebb.org/topic/5582/change-composer-to-redactor
I opened the thread read the first 14 posts. Navigated to home, went back into the thread. Toaster pops up asking if I want to skip to my last unread post, clicking on it takes me to post 15.
-
But I have to enter it at the beginning again for it to popup versus it just taking me to my last unread post immediately.
Yes, that's annoying, we all agree with that.
-
Yeah, I see how it works now. And it carried over to my tablet too, so it isn't per device either, once I knew what to look for and how to invoke it (which was by far the more confusing aspect).
-
I read the first 5
This might be your issue. It seems the "skip to unread" toaster doesn't pop up if you've only read a few posts. Also annoying.
-
Yeah, I see how it works now. And it carried over to my tablet too, so it isn't per device either, once I knew what to look for and how to invoke it (which was by far the more confusing aspect).
Hmmm, I'll also do some further tests.
But I have to enter it at the beginning again for it to popup versus it just taking me to my last unread post immediately.
Looks like there's an open ticket about that:
-
something that FUCKING COMMUNITY SERVER GOT RIGHT
He said it again. Everyone take a shot.
-
I say it a lot because I'm shocked and amazed that people who make a new product that does X doesn't implement all the features of the old product that does X.
Anyway, it's not my fault JBert is a lying liar who lies.

Not a liar, just bringing up an issue from two years ago.

I'll chime in a +1 to this as well, since this is my use case most of the time. That's going to be a massive pain in the arse.
-
I think I'll be keeping an eye on this too, since I browse from a home PC, a work PC, a Surface and a WinPhone.
Also, I spy Princess Luna! Which reminds me: I want a Twilight Sparkle avatar.
-
Are avatar changes going to be preserved?
Users that existed when the first import happened will not be re-imported during the second import.
-
So... that's a no?
