Anti-pattern: Fucking Lazy-Ass Software
-
What's really annoying though is how Windows Server likes to create totally fucking new RDP sessions despite the fact that the other RDP session is disconnected.
maybe you want to check this setting? https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754762.aspx

disallow all access to devices on your local network while the VPN is connected
I can't remember what client it was, but with the officially supported VPN software on an old work laptop, the connection process went like this: You're travelling and want to VPN into work using the WiFi in your hotel (or the airport, or whatever). Connect to WiFi. Start VPN client. Select one of several company VPN server locations. Connect. VPN client disables the laptop's WiFi port. Wow, that was useful.

That would probably prevent the problem I described, yeah. At the side effect of not allowing concurrent logins at all, unless I create more accounts, and then I imagine if someone else was logged in you'd probably have to try logins to find one that wasn't being used already. Still limited to 3 total sessions, of course.
Anyway, it does sound like an improvement. I'll look into it tomorrow. Thanks.

someone goes and physically sits in front of that machine and starts killing old RDP sessions that should've died.
Or you use a different server/pc in the domain with terminal server config tools (or however it is called these days) on it to kill the sessions.

Hey, so that shitty piece of shit software is the gift that keeps on giving.
Apparently, it was set to auto-update. So I came in to work today to find this on my screen:
-
Is that more or fewer than 512 characters...?
-
It's an image. Lots more than 512 bytes there.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, there used to be a page on their server that delivered plain-text version notes for the upgrade notice. That URL no longer even works, and you get a 404 error page.
I think the WTF is that you're using a version that's so old, it still tries to go to that page to get the version notes when it tells you that it's outdated.

But you should be getting a 504 Gateway Timeout; the 404 response won't arrive for another few million years.

I'm running version 2.2.2.
Looking at their download page the latest version is--- 2.2.2.
So double-wtf on them-- that their latest version doesn't have the proper URL for their download site-- AND that even though I'm on the latest version, it thinks I need an upgrade.
(Make that a triple wtf, since requests to the old download site should still work, but redirect to the new URL)

That seems silly.
Fairly sane. Wireless security isn't impressive except if you use tacas+ (IIRC) and that's expensive. Vpn is simple and cheap. If I needed to do something reasonably secure I'd probably propose something like that.

You need some IPC (passing a handle etc.) - someone posted the article above.
-
You're critiquing pseudocode? Those are some awful tiny nits, my friend.
