Poll: Upgrade Discourse?
-
I've run MyBB for a few hours once, and there was no trolling or toxic things happening, wood has lied to me.
-
But was there "civilized Discourse" happening?
-
You can't have a civilized discourse without 500 OK.
-
I can have much - and have had - much civilised discourse on the internet. It was only when capitals were introduced - Civilised Discourse on a platform called Discourse - that I started to have problems.
-
Will you stop that? He's the only Discourse developer who still wants to do something to help us, and he's actually helpful, like Sam used to be and Jeff never was. Regardless of how you feel about the Discourse software itself, he's trying to engage in civil discourse; that's no reason to slap him in the face in response.
-
Deleting posts doesn't actually help with that. Deleted posts are stored indefinitely in the same stream as regular posts, with the
deleted_at
column getting a D+T filled in, and they're still subject to the same visibility checks as non-deleted posts.

and then he threw that volcano into a bigger volcano!
That...would actually be pretty cool.
i admit, i'd pay to see it, particularly if it were directed by Michael Bay

You mean you'd pay to sit in the theater. You wouldn't actually be able to see the action because of all the lens flare.
On the positive-for-Bay side, he could skip the CGI and make that scene for $10M less.
-
You mean you'd pay to sit in the theater. You
no. i mean i'd pay to go on set and see it, and then watch it in theaters.

One more reason to upgrade, is that you claimed to use css to hide a thread, and the last version is supposed to have this:
edit: How do muted threads work anyway? would I still receive a notification if I'm @-mentioned?
I would rarely mute something here, because of topic drifting, a bad thread could get better
-
How do muted threads work anyway?
same way ignored users work. no notifications, no way, no hoiw, no matter what.
and now they get removed from view completely..... yay?
no, i'm genuinely confused on this one.....
-
-
Which is the way Muted categories work.
But I'm sure the bug still exists where topics created in a Muted category still aren't Muted by default, so @-mentions will still give off notifications.
-

Depends on the state:
Muted: No notifications; still in topic list, but no blue circle of new posts.
Normal: Notification for @-mentions, replies, (quotes?); still in topic list, but no blue circle of new posts.Personally, I'd be quite happy to have both disappear entirely from latest, new, unread, suggested, etc., but especially muted. If I've muted a topic (which I rarely do), I consider it so offensive and/or boring that I don't even want to know it exists.

Which is the way Muted categories work.
The only thing that bugs me with Muted categories if you follow a link to a topic inside a Muted category, it still sets it to Tracked straight away (as per my preferences).
-
...so, in theory, you can trick someone back into a thread that they've muted? Hmm...
-
Doesn't work on manual mutes, only automutes.
-

Well it's not back into seeing as they've not been in it before.
-
they've not been in it before.
How did they click the radio button to mute it if they'd never been in it? Unless they muted the whole category, I guess; I've never done that, so I'm not entirely sure how that works.

Yes.

No more numbers on your profile page
Oh no! How will we be able to stroke our glorious e-peens without the numbers showing up on our profiles?
He's the only Discourse developer who still wants to do something to help us, and he's actually helpful, like Sam used to be and Jeff never was.
He's still working for idiots who think removing the most basic features like post counts is a good way to improve performance. Sorry @riking, you might be an okay guy, but you're affiliating yourself with total insanity.
Filed under: at least they didn't move it to a CDN

Is Jeff accepting pull requests these days?
-
Didn't @RaceProUK get one accepted on a regrettable day some time last summer?
-
Two in fact, though the second was because I fucked up the first. But that was long before Jeff threw his hissy fit.
