When I close a browser tab it's because I'm done with that tab. When I close a window it's because I'm done with all the tabs in that window. On occasion I do need a tab I closed recently, and all modern browsers have a handy "recently closed tabs" feature for that.
I have the same issue with Notepad++'s default feature of keeping the files you had open when you last closed it. I closed it because I didn't want those bloody files, so get rid of them.
-
@accalia Or you could make a .bat file that mounted a Truecrypt container containing a dedicated Firefox profile for porn browsing, loaded that with the
firefox -P [folder path]
option, then put the .bat file inC:\Windows
so you can launch it quickly by typing its name in the start menu but doesn't show otherwise. Not that I'd know how to do that or anything.
-
I try to have my tab on a new tab page when I close the browser. Open it up, nothing untoward is seen. Unless they're close enough to read the tab names, in which case wtf are you doing letting them read over your shoulder like that.
-
@Jaloopa The only case when I want my tabs reopened is if I restarted the browser or the OS for updates. Firefox automatically restores tabs after restarting for a browser update regardless of settings. And on linux restarting while the browser is still open is recognized as a browser crash, so it comes back with all tabs. It's just windows where restarting the OS is registered in the browser as a clean close.
-
@accalia I use a separate browser ...

Can't you edit PATH instead?

You close the browser for reasons other than that?

Yeah, when Chrome is using 80% of my computer's memory and I want to play a game or something else that needs all the bytes, and I don't feel like thrashing my disk.
(Somewhat disturbing: Chrome's autocomplete suggestions as I typed "thrashing my d..." were "daughter" and "sis." Why do you think either of those are something people would want to type?)

I've had to do that to start up Hyper-V. Once started, I can restart the browser.
-
@HardwareGeek I'd expect you probably want your tabs to be restored if you closed it for that reason, though.

Your quote of me is missing my quote marks, which were there for a reason. You made me sound like I'm in favour of that concept.
To be clear, I think it's stupid as well, but I'm all for it being an option. As long as I can set it to whatever the hell I want.
I like it. Thank you for allowing me to use it.

Yes, all 6756 of them.
