Oh damn. They MOVE!
-
@dcon Yep. AIUI, spysats are usually fairly elliptical, presumably so they can get good and low over the area of interest without losing too much altitude to air resistance during the rest of the orbit.
-
@dkf TIL... The 'Find all objects from this launch' thing is pretty cool too!

Kinda implies....

@Tsaukpaetra I thought the interactive was being able to see the orbits and click on the items to see what they were. Not that they were updating positions too!
-
@dcon It seems to be coded by a total subject-matter obsessive. Good!

Right, that's the "interactive" part. The "live" part means real-time-like updates. Probably calculated, but still!

Almost certainly; most satellites don't make orbital corrections very frequently.

And most of the ones that do that belong to various TLA agencies of various countries... a significant number of those probably won’t appear on that mapping for certain raisins.

That's a much more likely option. They don't want to be totally hidden (since then someone might hit them!) but rather just ignored by everyone.

One thing I always did in KSP was to never use the delete/stop tracking button on launch debris. Either launches would de-orbit their debris themselves, or I'd launch another rocket designed to clean up after them.
Fun fact: if you grab something with the advanced grabbing unit, from any side, you can do everything you could if it were part of your ship. This includes firing something's engines and releasing it so it sends itself towards the ground. Though I'm not sure if it's possible to transfer fuel.

@M_Adams If you really want to know, it's debris from a radio satellite launch.
And, uh,
E_NO_REPRO
so just keep in mind that's not an actual official designation.

For those of us not quite up to sped on this, I think the second one on the second row is actually a weather balloon?

Some interesting discussion about the statistical significance / P-values stuff I posted about in the news thread:

I've bumped into this, and even though I have no use for it I think it's pretty cool and it might interest someone:

Here's the trailer. Skip to 1:00 if you get bored and want to see it in action:

Source code for a bunch of (mostly) old video games. Ars Technica for some reason focused on the text adventures, probably because Descent is impossible for tech journalists to figure out.
e: As someone noted in the Ars comments, Activision still owns the rights to the text adventures so this might get taken down. Who knows

Could it be because other kinds of games require assets, which may or may not be included? (didn't look into it)
-
@Zecc Could be. I haven't looked through any of the repos in any detail. Is there a way to mass-clone all the repos of a github user?

Shirley there's a easy way to scrape the user page and just clone the URLs that are found?

Behold!
You'll probably only get the public repos that way, but that's a hell of a lot better than nothing.

Instructions for Requesting an Emblem not Available for Inscription
To submit a request for an emblem of belief not available for inscription, the requestor must:
Establish that there is an immediate need for a Government headstone/marker to be furnished for a deceased eligible individual (i.e., submission of VA-Form 40-1330, for Standard Government Headstone or Marker, verification from national or state Veterans' cemetery officials).
Certify that the proposed new emblem of belief represents the decedent's religious affiliation or sincerely held religious belief system, or a sincerely held belief system that was functionally equivalent to a religious belief system in the life of the decedent.
Submit a three-inch diameter digitized black and white representation of the requested emblem that is free of copyright or trademark restrictions or authorized by the owner for inscription on Government-furnished headstones and markers and can be reproduced in a production-line environment in stone or bronze without loss of graphic quality.
I think your biggest problem will be finding a suitable recently deceased veteran. Got ne grandparentz?
