Any idea what he means by PNAS? He takes it for granted that the reader will know what it is, and so doesn't define it, but the first page of Google results sheds no light.

@boomzilla FTA:
Computer scientists could use such a database as a training ground for AI’s.
Hell no! Computer scientists are far more likely to use a big database of pictures of Instagrammers with the goal of training the AI to work out which ones are sluts.

I recently came across a somewhat related video:

I've skipped past the "computing architectures" stuff to the guy talking about what sort of AI JPL uses in space and how they think about AI, which he largely calls "Autonomy."

Mark Twain proposes a trade in climates.I considered posting this in the climate discussion in the Salon, but I thought that the nitpickers might object.

TIL about
(great iFramely box)
In case you want to send someone to a web 1.0 site that talks about, well, their OS. Probably.
Might not work soon enough, because it's based on User Agent sniffing.

På stora svenska online casino kan du alltid hitta casino spel från Netent, spelen har översatts till många språk inklusive svenska.
If this was indeed graffiti found, in this case, on a water tower in Herculaneum, it seems rather a bit more recent than the others.

Graffiti written in Swedish and mentioning an "online casino" is either much later than 70 CE or remarkably prescient. (Or vandalism of the other web page, which seems most likely, especially since the message contains an actual hyperlink, but less funny.)

I found this page explaining gears, with lots of helpful animations:
It's nothing ground-breaking but it explains concepts in an easy to follow way, and links to This Old Tony at the bottom

I haven't read this whole guide to Fourier transforms yet, but it looks neat, and features an animation of a hand drawing circles drawing itself:

Not only that, but halfway down the page you can draw your own things!
I once had a standalone version you could save the offset and starting angle pairs, but lost it some time ago...

I can not work anywhere.
Well, anywhere that will hire me. And for a while, until they figure out I'm not working there.

They all...are always around 30-years-old or less. Occasionally they’re in their early 30s, but never older.”
Not going to be a problem.

Ever wanted to port Doom to a new platform? Doomgeneric lets you do it by implementing just 5 functions!
Functions Description DG_Init Initialize your platfrom (create window, framebuffer, etc...). DG_DrawFrame Frame is ready in DG_ScreenBuffer. Copy it to your platform's screen. DG_SleepMs Sleep in milliseconds. DG_GetTicksMs The ticks passed since launch in milliseconds. DG_GetKey Provide keyboard events. DG_SetWindowTitle Not required. This is for setting the window title as Doom sets this from WAD file.
-
-
@anonymous234 I haven't looked at the Doom source code myself but supposedly, one of the big reasons that it gets ported to everything is that the code is very clean, well-structured and easy to understand all on its own
