The active population here seems to be slightly biased towards Central Europe, amirite?
-
...or so it seems to me.
There's at least one Croatian, one Czech, and quite a bunch of Poland dwellers.
Thus I wonder why not have a section where we all can write in our native languages, given that mutual intelligibility would be rather high.
-
I'm fairly sure the bias is towards the US; there's a lot of Americans here. Also quite a few British.
But yeah, there's a fair few Central/Eastern European residents too. We're a truly international community

From my initial attempts at blindly guessing at Polish - not really, no.
Except for @cartman82 (who you forgot / didn't know about), you all write in complete moon-language gibberish as far as I'm concerned.
-
didn't @PJH create a worldwide map of us based on (generously rounded) our GeoIP locations?
where was that?
-
Then why can I read and understand Croatian? ;-)

Here I think:
http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/geoplotting/8508/5?u=raceproukThough I believe that's just a sampling of 100 users
-
yeah, but he did a big map of everyone too....

Why bother? We all speak Americanese anyway...

Later on in the thread.

I was reading a book trying to trace the origin and influence of the Proto Indo European language, and it turns out it probably came from northern Central Europe, and became influencial most likely because those people were early adopters of horse riding (horses were herded for food for thousands of years, BTW) and perhaps also invented the war-chariot before the Babylonians although the evidence on the origin of the chariot is still pretty foggy.
Unfortunately, after they adopted horse-riding, they also became wagon-nomads which almost completely removes them from the archaeological record. Since they don't leave behind recognizable settlements or really anything to dig up except rare kurgans.

Is it just me or is there no data on that map?
Hell, I don't see any parameters in the URL either. Dahell?
-
Works for me.
Make sure you have JavaScript on, all that jazz…

Stupid... that's not an ad, you idiot! I think I'll have to default this damned thing to off, it's starting to block a bit too eagerly.
And that pin is either not me, or the precision reduction really shifted the damned thing
Or the data just sucked. That is also a possibility.
-
no data
If you're using Chrome, it won't let you load the non-https pin and shadow images from the https map.
-
There must be a polar bear stalking the hedgehog and the fox!
-
If you're using Chrome
Webkit, but not Chrome.
Maybe that's why the adblocker caught it though?
-
Works fine in Chrome here.

Those maps are like random 100 users. Probably 90% are just random lurkers or one-offers.
Things ARE a bit biased towards Central Europe at the moment, it feels. But that's because we are loud motherfuckers who like to have our bullshit opinions heard.
-
Not the homeip one; that's all users, I think
-
You're right, I just tried it with adblock off and it does work. I figured it was a mixed-content thing but I guess not.
Now the issue becomes: why does adblock block map pins?
-
All users where the "last seen" and/or registration IP is set, yes.
-
But that's because we are loud motherfuckers who like to have our bullshit opinions heard.
you know i always thought that was more descriptive of 'muricans than anyone else...
at least those from the former confederate states never shut up about the war and how they should ahve won and.... -sigh-
it's been far too long people! just let it go and move on! please!

-
it's applicable, no matter what war you are talking about.
-
The sole exception: flame wars thread in the "no-blakey-allowed" zone.
-
More precisely, what does my (and @Onyx's, presumably) adblock have against map pins?
-
honestly, i'm seriously beginning to regret creating that thread... feels like i accidentally gamified that sort of war and we're having more of them as a result...
-
If you hadn't created it, inevitably someone else would have…
-
at least those from the former confederate states never shut up about the war and how they should ahve won and.... -sigh-
I hear more about the Confederates from the Yanks than I do from Southerners.
EDIT: Thank you Discourse for posting before I was done..

Nein, danke.

I doubt that.

Don't worry, we still fight about WWII here. And before you say that's not as bad: no, people still fight about whose relative was on whose side, and still divide themselves along those lines, apparently.
Ummm... yeah... guys, most of you weren't even born, what in the holy fuck are you talking about?
-

WHUT?

-shrug- i honestly don't care which side of that war you're on.... i'm just sick of people picking at the scab so that it can't heal....
That's not aimed at you, mind. just in general.

polish has so many Ws and Ys I feel like I'm reading an explanation of the pumping lemma!

It's ok. We got the first one rolling.
And honestly, I suspect local idiocy would ensue no matter what. I'm honestly surprised we had a nearly 50 years period of not shooting each other here.

We have Eurovision to thank for that. As a continent, we've replaced shooting each other with voting on terrible songs

If by 'here' you mean 'Europe', then Kosovo would like to have a word…

No, I mean the Balkans.
And "nearly 50 years" was WWII - early 90s.
Also, yes, that was before Kosovo, so you missed one.

You know, some people have reasons to be proud of where they live. Like food, culture, etc. But for some reason we're only known for one historical aspect of our culture that only 5% actively participated in.
You'd think we gassed thousands of innocent people and marched across Europe or something.
-
Trying to figure out if some world traveler got the names backwards.
Unless he landed on the southeast side of Iceland and the west side of Greenland.

Never mind, it's not only the Croats. More people seem to be stuck in WWII.
