Discourse Metabooty
-
oh. -shrug-
my fault for not paying attention. then.
maybe i should have filed more bugs.... :-P
-
-
Hm, I wonder if my post count is also skewed by posts that got Jefficated on?
-
why do you think i stopped going to meta.d regularly. :-P
-

Undoubtedly, but the intent was for him to reward us for stuff we did there, so it's probably best to keep those out of the calculation.
I mean, all the snark and trolling fun aside, I'd like to honor the spirit of what he's trying to do here with his actual cash money.

Actual cash money is like a double bonus to go along with all the XSS exploitables he gave us.
-
-
Maybe i didn't make this clear.
I don't support discourse as software that should be used. I do not feel that money offered by the discourse team is being used in a good fashion.
For the same reason i declined stickers, and jeffs original 15 dollars or whatever he tried to give me, i want no part in taking money for trying to help discourse. It's still a cancer.
Now, if he wants to donate a larger sum of money to my company that is working on a competitive website that will be releasing a demo for pax in march and an event in April, now we can talk, because that wouldn't be supporting a toxic software.
-
And my charts reflect that:
-
I have 6 topics on meta.d and none are bugs? The fuck was I posting over there?
Looking at my stuff over there I have 2 bugs, a UX, and a bug that got Jeffed to feature. But I only see 5 topics not 6.
-
Apparently I can't read. Apologies.
-

I may be able to help here. As a disinterested neutral third party bystander with no horse in this race, you could send the whole $150 to me, and I'll make a youtube video of me burning
some photocopiesthe actual money. The end result: Jeff is $150 poorer, nobody feels like they got "cancer money", everyone is happy?

Fair enough. Consider your name scratched from the list.

I know that some of my original bug posts got Jeff'd to UX.
-

I don't have a problem accepting cancer money.

Fixed:
Since @matches wants nothing to do with the metabooty, that means that so far @boomzilla, @aliceif, and @abarker are confirmed recipients. Based on the weighted scoring, I propose that the remaining three slots be filled by @darkmatter, @ben_lubar, and @accalia.

Seconded.
-
As one of the nominees i am required to abstain from voting in this matter.
that being said: :-D

Agreed!

When do I get my moneys

If you accept the currency of purple dildos, my vote can probably be swung your way.

Can't hold it back anymore! Let it go, @RaceProUK.

I can't fight this feeling anymore, personally. I've forgotten what I've started fighting for.Fuck, I'm old.

As long as it isn't written in PHP and MySQL -- aka Server Herpes -- I am for it.

Right; the technologies you've picked are so much more reliable. Why, our recent uptime is almost up to one "9"!
-
Could be related to running bleeding edge betas here, also, there's quite a bit of local customization going on in here as well. As I recall there was a badly written bot explosion as well which resulted in downtime.
All fine, it's good to experiment, but know what you're signing up for.

ages ago, yes. and i fixed my bot. thank you very much,
you can even check my work if you're interested: https://github.com/AccaliaDeElementia/SockBot
-
And there's been, what, three separate fixes to actual bugs causing downtime? Hmm.
-
to the same bug or to three different bugs?
I know software development is hard, and i know we like to complain, a lot...... wait what was my point there?
-
I just hate devs who act like they can do no wrong, to the point of denying bugs existed while they write the fix >.> Making your QA department tiptoe around your ego just wastes everyone's time.
-
oh completely agree. If you work with me the ego stays outside the office. and if you can't leave the ego behind then here's a box for your things from your desk.
no one is infalible!

Ok, so we moved from cutting edge alpha's to current 'stable' (the impression I got) beta's a while back and we're still the problem?
Suggest a stream to which we can use where it can't be used against us. Revert back to 1.1 perhaps? 1.0?
@sam - opinions?
also, there's quite a bit of local customization going on in here as well.
http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/discourse-metabooty/7964/?preview-style=5ac5a5e9-c6ed-4197-9ec3-40811fd6ee5d&sticky=true was put in place to directly address any perceived CSS and/or script issues to which this comment alludes to.
Members are encouraged to check with that style in place first to ensure it's not a local issue first.
Badge SQL's are under active discussion and monitoring, and excessive stuff has been relegated to once a day.
As I recall there was a badly written bot explosion as well which resulted in downtime.
Recently? Or the one a while back that resulted in said programmers 'taking ownership' of that particular issue and self-rate-limiting?
-
Could be related to running bleeding edge betas here, also,
Yeah we stopped doing that, it didn't help. It was down like 50% of the time last weekend. Pretty much every time I tried to load the fucking thing.
Unless you're now to mean that "beta" is just as unstable as "test passed" or whatever the previous bullshit was.
there's quite a bit of local customization going on in here as well.
"We gave the product a plug-in architecture but don't run any plug-ins!!!"
As I recall there was a badly written bot explosion as well which resulted in downtime.
Yeah well I agree that was (and is) bullshit. Some people here are mentally-ill.
All fine, it's good to experiment, but know what you're signing up for.
I never signed up for any of this. I was opposed to it from day one.
-
It's all good, just pointing out that this is a community that wants to have its cake and eat it too:
-
100% rock solid stability with zero bugs, ever
-
Lots of custom local experimentation and customization, bots, new features, beta versions, etc
Pick one.
-
-
Making your QA department
Haha, that's the funniest joke I've seen on here in weeks! Discourse having a QA department!
-
Pick one.
False dichotomy. The fact we moved from alpha to beta being a prime example of it.
-

Somehow, magically, I get both in tons of products. Sony Vegas (which is about 50,000 more complex than Discourse will ever be) for example. Chrome gives me both. Fucking SKYRIM gives me both and it's written in an archaic game engine that was a relic five years ago.
-
-
Yeah Skyrim has bugs, but it doesn't crash or become unstable, even with 50+ mods installed. Many of those mods running scripts.
-
Some people like Skyrim specifically because of the bugs. I mean, who doesn't want to walk outside and be crushed by a falling wooly mammoth?
-
I still believe games leave in relatively harmless quirks like that specifically to get tons of free viral video advertising on release. (At least, after Red Dead Redemption did it accidentally, I think companies are doing it on purpose.)
BUT THIS IS OFF-TOPIC, I wanna talk about how shitty Discourse is.
