not really. just have clinet side JS fake the avatar upload POST and bob's your uncle
You... you're evil. I like you.
But how does one afford to outfit a flock of seagulls with monocles?
I'd wager he's providing them with infinite supply of tophats to match their monocles.

You... you're evil. I like you.
I'm pretty sure that's what I initially proposed.
There's also a trick with putting a local image into a
<canvas>
then reading it out as a JPEG to compress images on mobile. Doesn't happen yet on Discourse, but.
-
I'm pretty sure that's what I initially proposed.
yep. it is. i just said it fancier. :-D

Yes, and in my mind I overcomplicated the whole process initially.
See why I was away? Told you that requiring brainpower in the evening is a no-go for me lately.

The first vicitms: @boomzilla and @accalia.
For some reason, @boomzilla doesn't look any different.
@abarker And good luck trying to do it to mine.
I don't think you can hat my avatar.
-
he didn't take the avatar....
the spoilsport.
-
What I was thinking of is something that pops up after you upload your avatar image. You get a collection of hats, 'staches and monocles to play with that you can move, rotate and scale. Also, color picker available.
Hangouts has this.
-
If @abarker doesn't send a flock of suicide seagulls to assassinate me first.
I'll start with the March Hare. See if he has any success.
-
I guess my avatar is unhattable then.

You people have no imagination.

If this is hattable, anything is hattable:

You can't look MORE sophisticated than "I got a fucking tricorder, bitch". It's not possible.
What if you had TWO tricorders? Or a tricorder and a monocle? What about either of those, while wearing a smoking jacket?
-
Could you not just ...pin it in place?
I thought you were talking about Blakey, and I was going to sugget a rivet, a la Star Trek VI.
-
Well done. My hat's off to you.
-
No, your hat is on to him.
-
hmmmm.... @abarker.... theres another avatar that needs hatting. do you want to do it or shall i?
-
yep. it is. i just said it fancier.
That's because your wearing a top hat and monocle, while @riking isn't (yet).
-
hmmmm.... @abarker.... theres another avatar that needs hatting. do you want to do it or shall i?
I'll take the challenge.
-
Take that, @riking!
-
These are getting unusualler and unusualler.

-
i approve!
most befitting our illustrious leader (although i don't think alex has been puit under the hat yet either.... ;-))

I like the concept, but I know you can make the mustache blend better if you put some more effort into it.

I'd need to get (or make) a cleaner mustache, The original I'm currently using has a little bit of a white edge to it, which you've obviously noticed.
-
if you have photoshop. select it, and give the edge a.... looks like about 3PX feather. that should smooth it out a fiar bit.
actually that's about the only feature i think is missing from Paint.NET.
and i will literally headdesk if you tell me it has it and i've been missing it all this time.
-

If you use GIMP you can try to create a completely black layer, then use your mustache bitmap as an alpha mask for this layer. That should give you a mustache with proper alpha blending.

I could actually do that in Photoshop as well.
-
You're using this image, right? It looks like its color channels aren't fully black. They have some non-blackness around the edges.Try deleting that while leaving the alpha alone.
Or you could do what @VinDuv said.
You know what? Here, try this:

I cleaned one up already.

Your forgot to do the second ball:
Keep the edging on the hat for this one so that the hats don't blend together.
Also, with proper sizing, you didn't need to cut the top of the hat off. Tsk, tsk.

I didn't. That was just a test. I didn't want to step on your lawn again. But here, take this one as a token of my appreciation for the work you're doing:
-
After borrowing @accalia's internal council[1], and with a final vote of 146 to 5, with 46 abstentions, @Zecc is to be issued 2 hatter demerits.
It should be noted that after 3 demerits he must cease all hatting activities.
[1] I hope she doesn't mind. They seemed happy to help out.

We shall see if a use arises for that ...

hrmm... next time leave a note or something. i was getting rather concerned as to where they could have wandered off to.

They said they did! Next time I will personally leave a note instead of trusting them.

Welcome to the exclusive club of people who have played with @PJH's balls, btw.
We don't have our own badge yet, sorry.

and when you get one i don't want to know about it (particularly since i might be a member of that club given i chose @shadowmod's avatar)

I got bored of my avatar, but wanted to keep the tophat so... Here, have the set in SVG:
Damn it Discourse, .svg IS an image file!
Auto-traced so the hat is a bit lop-sided but eh, good enough for these resolutions.

I prefer vectors in general and all I saw were bitmaps. Now, if you made a vector version in PS I didn't see it. And also it's likely in some Adobe moon-format. So, SVG: a format that any browser will open but will blow up in Illustrator and Corel!
... ummm, should have went .ps / .eps, haven't I?
