It's semicredible but most email clients block tracking pixels by default, and I can't remember if you can use external stylesheets. This is a best of breed phish as far as I can see, hella better than the training fakes at work.

No, you can't. Or certainly not reliably. It's all part of the same mechanisms that block tracking pixels, or rather they block all external resources by default. (Or at least Thunderbird does; I don't know about others, but I suspect that Gmail will.)

There's also return receipts. Are those disabled by default yet? It's been a while since I created a new profile.

I seem to remember needing to specifically disable that. But it has been a few years... I think I was reminded because the first email to have one did at least prompt me. And now, I just copy the profile directory and copy that to the new machine and use that... (after a little dancing to tell it - YO! THAT profile!)

I have somehow found myself on the mailing list for Moe's Southwest Grill. Well, not me, exactly; my daughter's disused account at my domain, which ends up in my catch-all account. (Her address even contains "deactivated" as part of the username.) I have never eaten nor had any other business contact with Moe's Southwest Grill in my life. And as the on the sundae, their email is advertising a product neither of us can eat, because gluten.
-
@HardwareGeek git gud.

@HardwareGeek said in 📧 The Official Spam Emails Thread™:

I turned that off because the annoyance factor was maxed out too rapidly. If they can't get my email right, just bounce that shit. I never want to see it! (I do have a couple standard names set up as aliases)
-
@dcon I keep it on because I make up new names on the fly for every site I have to give an email address to. That way, when I start getting spam, I know where they got the address from. In theory, anyway; in practice, 99% of it comes to my "real" address. Also, my daughter likes to make up silly names at which to send me email, like "daddad@[redacted]".

Exactly. Because the actual message was clearly visible above the gibberish.
But the main failure of the gibberish message is the fact that with the large amount of gibberish, pre style="display:none"
did not work completely.

The McAfee that can be cleanly uninstalled is not the true McAfee.

I don't have a gmail email but my mother does. She went to Japan to a training program and in a some way she was signed up for a romance and friends website type of spam website, One thing my mom does is never click any link.
So originally my mom received emails like "samantha (male name) wants to talk to you" or "come online, samantha is waiting for you". Samantha named contacts were on her email-contact list, dunno if that caused something.
Then it was the big-green-button type. With buttons saying join or call or message.
Then it started sending different people's invites.
All was coming from a website named Mzahamna or something. The links were cheesy as f.

Whatever I haven't mixed up countries. Please comment as it is easy to understand, otherwise I don't get what you are saying, oh and Samantha is male name in SL, not female as in U.S. (female is samanthaa - why? cuz that's how we write sinhala )
Notice that inherent = a and alapilla = aa.

Hey! They think my taste is nice (omg)!
$2698? What an oddly-specific number...
I especially enjoy the last two lines:
If you need proof, reply with Yeah then i will send out your video recording to your 8 friends.
it's a nonnegotiable offer and thus please don't waste mine time & yours by replying to this message.
So, if I need proof, reply. But don't reply, it is a waste of time.
I really want to know what 8 friends they'll send a video to. Actually, no, I want the video, my webcam doesn't exist for all intents and purposes so I desperately want to know what they come up with... 🤓

The email address is at a domain name I bought a while ago, and is just
domainname@domainname.com
. I've never used this address anywhere, and it shows up in my inbox because I've got a catch-all email forwarder set up. The only things that have come to that address previously are a whole raft of spam, mostly fake Docusign requests, that started pretty much the day I got the domain. This one somehow didn't get caught by Gmail's algo. You'd think if I signed up for this website or got their newsletter, I'd have even a single other email by them somewhere in my email storage, right?
-
From what I've been able to tell, these emails from Amazon Business are legit, but it's like they go out of their way to make them look indistinguishable from spam:
I don't even have a business, just a regular personal Amazon Prime account
