Emoji Thingy

Just noticed this:
Did we get a an emoji chooser ?
-
Well, that's long overdue. Seems like a nice implementation (at least on desktop).
-
Saw the post about that on meta - wondered when we'd catch that update.
-
...and it's broken. The chooser disappears when I click the tab with the parsley(?) on it.
*hovers*Oh, it's bamboo.
Oh, and
*\*hovers\** Oh, it's bamboo.
renders

Yay for two bugs in one post...
Is @accalia stalking me...?

That tab works for me. Discoursistency.
-
-
Try Ctrl+F5.
I know that the tab was broken before I hit Ctrl+F5 in order to test something in another thread which caused it to seemingly get fixed by discsorcery.
-
Try <kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>F5</kbd>.
Noep, still borken...Firefox dev tools given me this error:
TypeError: missing argument 1 when calling function helper

let's see how many emoji bugs we can find!

In between the nulls.
-
Huh, still giving numeric counts there?
we gave it a few numbers other than 0 to play with.
and by we i mean @loopback0 ;-)
-
Did they also change the page design or is it just me? The content seems even more pushed to the left now.

Oh, it's bamboo.
I thought it was a cactus.

@Boomzilla and I already discussed this in that thread already, but I wanted to get additional opinions: is anyone else bothered by the lack of a close/cancel button? I just thank that Joe Blow, average internet user, probably won't think to click on the gray background if he gets to this picker and then decides he doesn't want an emoji after all. And, as @boomzilla mentioned, Esc isn't an option on touch.
-
Interestingly, it only looks modal. Summon it and keep typing!

Especially an issue if, like me, you click a tab and the whole chooser disappears up the arsehole of the great Discource Pixie
-

Yes it is stupid. I would even prefer they did it the same in the lightbox. A close button but hovering over it still displays the magnifier.

Maybe, but I think the "click anywhere else to get rid of the popup" interface concept is fairly widespread.
Edit: That said, there's no real reason not to have an explicit close button.

Here's a question: why is this concept widespread? It has no correlation anywhere else. In any other application, you can't just click outside of a modal to dismiss it. Why is this supposed to be better than an explicit close button?
-
-
Why is this supposed to be better than an explicit close button?
Because it removes yet another piece of clutter from the interface?
Hmm makes for a nice design paradigm ...
Why aren't you following YAPOC ? It's the new hip thing to do!
-
Because it removes yet another piece of clutter from the interface?
That's a very Jeff motivation. Fuck the users, declutter all the things!
-
-
What's that quote about cache invalidation? :shifty:
-
Oh yay! The emoji thingy doesn't have all the emoji, for example: :rage1: :rage2: :rage3: :rage4:
I dare you to find them!
-
Yet another result of the "Emoji One plus a handful of other shit" set of emoticons that Discourse uses.
-
Not even all of the emojione icons are visible.
Like and .
-
And CDCK have - of course - not updated the emoji thingie to use the new flags.
Like

did not test on firefox / ie, will test today and make sure it works.
-
Will be adding them probably today, also not that happy with modal, its annoying it goes away after you select an emoji. Going to try to position absolute it above toolbar.
-

I thought this - but then I thought that was maybe how it happens elsewhere. Then I had work to do and forgot to confirm either way.
-

GTFY
Why? Are you in the habit of using multiple emoji at once? Also, if you're going to make it stick around for multi-emoji selection, make sure to handle this:

Except for Adobe, because they're assholes. In Acrobat, that's how you get rid of, I think, the Properties "dialog".

Adobe also went through a phase where they tried to make all their programs - such as Photoshop and Acrobat - web-based using Adobe Air. I think that effort is now dead. In other words: Adobe is a bunch idiots flinging shit at the wall trying to get something to stick.

Reminds me of our new help desk system. If you want to pull up a "card", e.g., more info on a user, linked ticket, etc, it opens in a new window, using all of the JavaScript in the world. But if you click in the opener, it closes that window. Why? Because that's the worst way to do it, so that's what these guys did.

It will be convenient for thread redirections, at least.
Firefox bug was this thing
<- still missing...[quote=Mozilla]
Hey, let’s add non-standard methods on Object, using a generic name without any prefix or suffix!

Good news: PAGINATION!
Bad news: NO CLOSE BUTTON!
-
Worse news: It masks the screen and centers the dialog instead of doing something that makes sense like, I don't know, hovering over the button itself.
EDIT: Awesome, @sam is already on it. Good news, Everyone!

We already support custom emojis, @pjh could inject them in in a footer script.
