Blizzard unveils Team Fortress 2 but named after a faction from Half-Life 2

Yeah it looks awful.
-
They have Hanzo!
Hanzo, a bow-wielding Japanese mercenary, has the ability to scale walls with his bare hands, fire off a tracking device that illuminates nearby enemies for his team, and unleash a huge spirit dragon that does grievous damage to all enemies in its path.
Sounds like an accurate representation.

very reminiscent of Team Fortress 2.
Understatement of the fucking year. Half of the classes are pretty exactly the same, except boring. TF2 at least has a tongue-in-cheek feel to their characters.
There is one redeeming quality, though:
-
>Kotaku
Wonderful place, full of wonderful people.
-
@Zoidberg, what is your opinion on this topic?
-
I've performed a few mercy killings.
-
@Zoidberg So you killed Project Titan?!
-
I find it had to make a call on it with available information. I may see if it's fun once I get my hands on it. It's FPS, FPS tends to be twitchy, and I'm horrible at that. Then again I've been loving heroes.

Blizzard has this shocking thing called... "females" in their game? Huh!

So does TF2. http://www.teamfortress.com/classes.php?class=pyro

...whatever? They're still fucking boring. It's an okay touch (especially since they seem to have toned down T&A somewhat), but flavor-wise, the characters are still bland as hell.
And TF2's Pyro is female about half of the time, depending on Valve's mood for today. The other half of the time, it's Abraham Lincoln.
Filed under: and now we're gonna derail this thread into another gamergate flamewar, thanks for nothing blakey
-
Only two things are known for sure about the mysterious Pyro: he sets things on fire and he doesn't speak.
You do good research, Ben.
Seriously, though, even fucking Call of Duty has female avatars. What's Valve's excuse?

The company that makes TF2 weapons is called Mann Co.
Plus, most of the original maps have the spawn point inside a locker room. Adding a second one for each team would mess with balance, making one gender better than the other for each map.
Also:
- The Soldier's name is Jane Doe.
- The announcer is female.
- Miss Pauling is arguably the only TF2 character with half a brain.
-
Adding a second one
Stop with the segregation. It's time for unisex locker rooms.
-
and here i thought it was impossible for high school gym to get more awkward...
-
The best thing: First they talk about how they don't want the one-shot-one-kill squishy combat...
...and then they show a video where Widowmaker regularly oneshots her opponents.
-
Tracer is a young pilot with a cute accent that somehow got lost in time during a test flight. As a result, she can manipulate time at will. Left clicking uses her "pulse pistols," Shift allows her to dash forward in time, E allows her to dash backwards in time
Manipulate time my ass. She can jump backwards and forwards in space and that's it.

Dude. I went to a football-heavy high school, to the point that we had a full time coaching staff. Their office was, naturally, at the back of the men's locker room, adjacent to the football locker room and half million dollar weight training facility.
They had "student aides" (which was basically "bullshit freebie class for cheerleaders" - let's not complain about that because I weaseled my way into creating about four "bullshit freebie classes for nerds").
This naturally had the girls in and out of the locker room basically constantly. Making the whole trip from the entrance at the front corner to the opposite back.MANY shenanigans and awkwardness ensued until somebody complained and they ended up welded to the bench outside the locker room whenever it was in use.
Another amusing anecdote: The football team was required to do at least one other sport during the off season (plus mandatory weight training, etc.) . Naturally, the guys all typecast themselves out into the most appropriate sport for their role - runner-y dudes (I don't sportsball) played lacrosse or soccer. Thrower dudes played baseball. Big bruiser smash-the-other-guy types wrestled. Except the center. This enormous humanoid wad of steroid abuse and muscle. He was a cheerleader. The only male cheerleader.

There's one Dota hero that can stop time in a local area, and another Dota hero that can move himself backwards in time.
-
Half of the classes are pretty exactly the same, except THEY CAN FLY.
FTFY
Will buy. Besides, the cinematic trailer is gloriously well done.

The first one's passive does the second, unless you're dead.

Tribes came out in 1998. YAWN!
The bigger question is, why have so many shooters come out that do not feature jetpacks? Although the whole Titanfall/Destiny/Advanced Warfare thing seems to tell me: jetpacks are back, baby!
-
I am one of many sad people who currently hates HiRez. First, they sell me an TPS MMO (with jetpacks!) that was very enjoyable but incomplete. Then they make it free. Then they start developing SMITE. Then they stop developing GA.
Then they buy Tribes. They get people playing their new Tribes for a few months. Now I hear it's dead.
They announced GA2, so I imagine SMITE will be dead in less than a year.
This game looks like it will give me the things I wanted from GA's combat, while being far less likely to be abandoned. Blizzard knows how to keep a death grip on a single game for over a decade. I still have some hope for their products.

Compared to what Piranha Games has done to MechWarrior, you got it easy.
But sadly, Tribes gaming peaked shortly before Tribes 2 came out, with the Shifter v.1 mod running on the original Tribes engine. Everything since then has been crap.
