was foreword, but the unwashed masses got confused and started substituting forward (cause it sounds the same in most dialects) and well... they outnumbered us so we let them have that one.
So, we have now reached that point where I, a mostly self-taught Balkan shepherd starts correcting native English speakers... who write books. Good to know.
I wasn't, for once, engaging in mindless hair-splitting (in this case about spelling).
Since Dennis Ritchie was instrumental in creating Unix to begin with - I thought it was cool of him to contribute to a book of Unix-Hate .
I caught that, yes, but the word bugged me.

yep.
I mean i'm unrelentingly a bad spellar, but at least i don't wright books, or claim that my weight of speeling is correct. ;-P
*That was remarkably hard to write and get all those words wrong on purpose.

Spelling is one thing. I admit to relying on spell checkers a lot for that.
But confusing
forward
withforeword
is a special level of "I don't even".

modern people don't think.
ever.
not unless they absolutely can't help it.
Unless you can think of a reason that anyone who has seen the TV show Survivor would possibly want to be on the show (i was SHOCKED to find out last week that it was still on the air!)

Of course not. Spelling is for losers.
Like me.
Am I insane, don't know English as well as I think I do, or should that be a foreword?
Do you spell
creat
with one or two E's?(I can't believe, after 5 hours, I was the first to spot this...)
-
I don't get it.

I don't get it.
Ken Thompson was once asked what he would do differently if he were redesigning the UNIX system. His reply: "I'd spell creat with an e."
echo 'foreward' | sed 's/e//g'

Woosh on you, me, or troll? :P

Not quite sure what point you're making TBH, so probably me... :)

I buttumed he meant that he would name
creat
ascreate
this time around. Then again, I never used it, and don't know enough history to be 100% sure.

That's exactly the point he was trying to make (i.e. missing the obvious point that it already has one E already - which I averted by asking 'one or two E's' in my post up-
threadtopic.)

Ah, so I wooshed on the regex pun.

It's one of the great blunders of naming. Along with
