🖎 The officious song of the day comment thread!
-
That's ace, that is.
Edit:
More or less translated lyrics to Didier Super:
- Right wing ... We don't much like sharing, we prefer to accept that we're simply tight as fuck.
- Left wing ... We are so very nice. We want to share it all, especially rich people's money
- Right wing ... We think that on the planet, life is not possible without the stock exchange
- Left wing ... We don't really agree, but we don't have a better idea. Maybe that's why we've decided that the planet's fucked
- Right wing ... We think that if the planet crashes, it's its own stupid fault - it should have been more efficient
- Left wing ... We don't agree but we still don't have a better idea. When we are in power we will surely have ... one
- Right wing ... We don't care if we're unhappy, what's important is being rich
- Left wing ... We don't care about money, what's important is doing fuck all
- Right wing ... we don't much like the arabs and the blacks
- That's great because the left wing will get their votes
- Right wing ... it's us who have the prettiest girls
- Left wing ... we learn to appreciate interior beauty
- Right wing ... We need a big 4x4 for driving on flat roads such as in the centre of town. It's even better if it pollutes because that makes the greens all shout - because for us ecology is just another left wing party
- Left wing ... We have cars so rotten they pollute even more than the 4x4s, but you can't say we don't support the greens - we repair our bodywork with their stickers
- Right wing ... We think that the peadophiles should have their balls cut off and so should their families.
- Left wing ... we take the time to ask if in certain cases they aren't just in love
- Left wing ... We are happy to give some loose change to the homeless. That way thanks to us they die more slowly
- Right wing ... We'd really like the homeless to be self funding; for example by selling their bodies to the sausage factory
- Right wing ... We think that the jobless shouldn't smoke because it gives them cancer. Cancer should be forbidden to those who can't afford their own chemotherapy and their own wigs
- Left wing ... We think that cancer should be accessible to all, otherwise it's against the principle of equality which is at the base of our republican values
- Right wing ... Every time we rape women people think that its not right
- Left wing ... We rape who we want people will say it's a conspiracy
Obviously, shouldn't take him too seriously. One of his other "hits" has the chorus "Children / are no use / we should burn them / like in Brazil"

cover of a Vampire Weekend album
Although I had to read the comment to actually get my brain to link up completely
-
I got that bit too, but my ears decided I'd had enough before having enough time to think about the rest, so yeah, the comment helped.

Ludwig van Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata - 3rd Movement
Interpreted by Dr.Viossy on the electric guitarVery impressive playing, although I do prefer the original.

Today's question : Can Pissforce deal with links to a timed point in a video? Answer, surprisingly, yes.
IIRC, there was a time when it couldn't, but the discodevs fixed it when the bug was reported (by TDWTF, of course).
-
That was one of my bugs from the early days.

There was a music video posted on this site 2-3 weeks ago, electro-swing with a black & white cartoon video. I can't find it using disco search and it's not in the song thread, please can anyone help?
-
Was is it this song?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BMyA6_oi28
Ah, it is in the SotD Thread. It was over one month ago.
Found it by searching for "dubswing" (I couldn't remember what Blakey said the character was named):
-
That's it, thank you. I had the right thread I just hadn't gone back far enough.
-
This is good stuff. All I've listened to on my commute for the last week is these tracks:

(There's volumes 1-6 of these).
Thanks for your original post!

Very related: It's track one.

Yes, that's where I got it from. ;)

Chaos on Deponia Soundtrack - Platypus Bataka
finished the last one a couple of weeks ago, the germans have really weird sense of humour.

This is good stuff.
Welcome to the club!
If you get a sudden urge to wear a fedora and a striped suit the support meetings are held every other Tuesday.

Alas, I don't speak German. But they did a decent job on the English version.
I'm still not sure how I feel about the secret handshake puzzle on the second game, where you had to
mute the game so the main character wouldn't be confused by the background music's rhythm
. I needed a walkthrough for that one.
The third game bugged out on me in places. On the laundry room minigame for example: all the items of clothing had the same tags and they were all behaving the same way too. And there was no UI for skipping the minigame. Fortunately following the exact instructions from a walkthrough allowed me to solve it, somehow.
Also, while the minigame was active there was no way to call up the game's main menu. To close the game I had to press Alt+F4. One should never ever mess with a player's ability to reach a game's main menu (unless it's a cutscene I guess, but those should be skippable).

Continuing the discussion from 🎤 Song of the day 👂:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVevvbFNKiY
I keep getting a blakeyrat vibe from the clown, especially the part where the woman starts singing and he just kind of stands there looking and moving his lips like he's prepping to start singing, or muttering curses, or who knows what.

If you get a sudden urge to wear a fedora and a striped suit
I have a fedora (a couple of them, in fact) and a striped suit, but I haven't had any urge (or occasion) to wear them since I moved to WA.
-
I want a fedora... but it's not something I feel comfortable buying online, need to find a decent hat shop somewhere around here.
Striped suit, less so, I don't think it's going to jive well with my figure...
-
I got mine online and it turned out rather well for me. Sadly I seem to have torn and destroyed all the trenchcoats that went along with it well, so it's gathering dust...

It's too bad there's nowhere in Poland to buy a new trenchcoat.
-

Sorry, even if you were in the US I couldn't really help you with that. I could probably hook you up with guys that collect and sell vintage hats, but shops I dunno either.
jive well with my figure
But jive is great exercise if you want to improve your figure.
-
Yes, jive was an intentional pun there ;)
Though I actually need to get buffed up, not lose weight. Dancing might help but I think I'd actually have to go for weight lifting or something in my case. Then again, no expert...
-
Welcome to the club!
I noticed you mentioned electro swing elsewhere on the site, can you recommend any bands etc for me to lookup?
-
Well, most of the time I listen to various sets/mixtapes myself (great for commute, nice to fall asleep to since there are no jarring transitions ) However, of note:
Parov Stelar is pretty much the father of ES as we know it. Awesome stuff. Even does live performances, which I heartily recommend if he pops up in the neighborhood (not sure where you're from, but I don't think he tours outside Europe so...)
Caravan Palace is awesome as well
Swingrowers is one of the bands I got into recently. Like them a lot.
Bart & Baker seem to mostly do remixes of genuine old swing, while others so far have original songs as well.
Alice Francis is pretty good. Does "traditional" stuff as well, but there is a range of songs that mix ES with rap. These are hit or miss IMHO, but I mostly can't complain.
Caro Emerald even had some hits on the radio. More pop-y than the rest, but I like her stuff in generalThe rest of it is pretty much what I pick up from mixtape descriptions. Great YT channel to look at is https://www.youtube.com/user/freshlysqueezedmusic. Also, https://www.youtube.com/user/FunkyyPanda, check out the playlists tab.

That's great, thank you.

national pride
Of course.this is a tango:
To me, though, it's not really tango unless it includes actual dancing (posted here, as it's a bit OT for the main topic; it's a compilation of short clips, not a single song):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZ7pcCCf000
To my eye, the first couple are the best. The old guy looks like he's been dancing for decades. The younger couples are good, too, but seem to me to lack the style of the old guy, and I dunno, but I didn't see anything that seemed to be beyond intermediate-level steps. But what do I know? I've only had a few lessons at intermediate level, and it's been 4 or so years, so I've forgotten a lot. And of course, people who are good make even hard stuff look easy.
-

uhm, i like listening to it. with or witouth dancing. that may have something to do with the fact that every time i tried to dance it ended... well, not with optimal results to say the leastThe first ones are better, a lot.
i used to walk through that street on my way back from work, the old guy not only looks like, he's been dancing for decades. i can tell you, those clips don't even begin to show how good they are(or were, last two time i was around there they weren't anywhere =/ )And of course, people who are good make even hard stuff look easy.
QFT. a sprained ankle after trying to follow the steps of and old couple can testify

Fair enough, especially for an Argentinian. My interest in tango, or big-band (or electro-) swing, or Strauss waltzes, or ... derives very much from the dancing associated with the music. I can enjoy listening without dancing, but I would have little interest in the music if the interest in the dancing hadn't been there first.

Cool. I envy you that.they weren't anywhere
Hopefully, they were just taking the day(s) off.

Heard on the radio a few minutes ago, a Hanukkah tango written by an American and sung in Ladino:

Brutal Doom - the best modern shooter in existence!

What's that about? I was just about to download that game to try it.

I kinda half-expected someone will come to rail at me about nostalgia and rose-tinted glasses.
The game is loads of fun, really.

Carl Orff - Carmina Burana - O Fortuna
I'm a bit surprised this hasn't been posted before, but Discosearch says no. I'll give it a like, because Carmina Burana, even though I don't think it's a very good performance — too much snake music in the choir, and the bass drum should have pairs of solid punches, not single hits (early) or indistinct rolls (a little later); at least that's the way I've always heard it performed.

I guess I didn't really have anything in particular to say, but I did give you a "like" to show my appreciation for your having posted it. Not that you care about "likes," of course, but I did like it.

Yes, like the sausage.
Yeah, I know that. I first wrote "Vienna Philharmonic," then changed it to what they call themselves instead of what we furriners call them, but obviously I did an incomplete job of it. It seemed like something wasn't quite right, but I missed just what it was. I blame lack of caffeine; yeah, that's it.

Ok.

The snare effect at the beginning is very interesting. I had to watch that a few times to see how he did it.

Only if playing Iron Maiden and Judas Priest riffs in my bedroom counts as a gig.

Realization: Spotify doesn't have The Pillows.

Phil Collins has really let himself go.
LOL. I liked how there was the occasional person in the audience with a look of "Are you guys for real?" on their faces.
