Also had the best opening music in a game ever.
That's debatable.
It is a great piece of music - yes.But honestly, I still prefer this - even though I really don't like the game it's from (nor most the music in that game):

I move to put this forward as a contender:

Edit: OK, it's the main theme, not the intro music; couldn't find the intro music by itself. Also, this is a personal favourite:

Oh, we're doing intro theme songs now? In no particular order:

BTW, why are people posting these videos in the comment thread, and not the song of the day thread?
-
Because they're not Song of the Day?

Because they're not Song of the Day?
QUIT JUDGING.
Ok, I'm probably done with that joke.

because i can?

Well played.

Because they're not Song of the Day?
Time for Jeffing into a new thread?

I love that piece. But now I can't hear it without thinking about this any more:
Farscape - 1812 plays his favorite song – [01:20..02:07] 02:07
— Thomas Brix Larsen
-
That episode with 1812 was the best. THE BEST. OMG THE BEST EVER.
... I loved how 1812 stuck around to the end of the series, too. So glad.
For you Internet geezers, remember the "Save Farscape" campaign and their amazing trailer?
Save Farscape 1812 Overture – 02:30
— amwschwartz17If actual Farscape had had a trailer like that, it might not have been cancelled in the first place. Also: it features 1812 a lot.
-
Did that actually work and resulted in Peacekeeper Wars, or was it just a coincidence?
-
Coincidence I believe.
The cliffhanger at the end of Season 4 was so half-assed I always wondered if they got the cancellation news like super late in the run.
It strikes me that in this era of dirt-cheap special effects, Farscape probably would have remained profitable for years longer than it did when it actually aired. I'm sure 80% of the cancellation was the series' budget not justifying its advertising revenues. It certainly wasn't done due to artistic reasons, Farscape season 4 was way better than most of the previous seasons.
But I'm just spitballing, I'm sure there's articles all about this and I'm too lazy to read them.

That's debatable. It is a great piece of music - yes.
Catching up with Song of Day, saw this.
No.
Even if you exclude Civ IV, there's still Parallax:
Parallax Title Theme – 11:24
— cheetahman91I could listen to that all day. And have. On several occasions.

*wanders into the thread*

*leaves, whistling nonchalantly*
-
Not even close to comparible.
Arkanoid's theme sounds like farts and drumsticks. Carefully timed farts and drumsticks. But farts and drumsticks.
Parallax's is pretty much the crowning achievement of the C-64 SID chip.
-
Thinking about it, Arkanoid was a bad example (though it is one of my favourites; childhood memories)
This is way better:
jungle strike theme song genesis – 05:13
— dantej76
Or this:
Micro Machines (Genesis) Music - Theme Song – 02:35
— The Dude

Or this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIwJuHnJFvYI think I've done drugs which sounded like that.

Parallax's is pretty much the crowning achievement of the C-64 SID chip.
I'm usually all for chippy tunes, and I do like a large part of that song, but the start is super-boring and the ending is just painful.
Claims of a "best opening music in a game ever" are stupid anyway, because no one has listened to the songs of "every game ever". Also, opinions are like ass holes.

I dunno, I'd put this as a very strong contender if we're going for the technical aspect:
Rob Hubbard - Monty on the Run Theme [C64] – 06:38
— PeyserCommodoreBecause Rob Hubbard is the man.

Sublime - summertime
Ba da ba bye bye
Ba da ba bye bye

?? The video gets suddenly quiet from 3:25 onward?

Dang, Hanzo'd.
I like this one better personally:
Rob Hubbard & Ben Daglish - Auf Wiedersehen Monty [C64] – 07:12
— PeyserCommodore

indeed. it's a random video, i was listening to it from my pc.

That line so won't work for today's kids... Dead channels give a blue screen these days.

DIdn't realise Soil were still going

Last time I saw them before last night, they were supported by Puddle of Mudd
Also, it's been 14 years since I first saw Soil… I feel old…

I saw them many years ago when they played a small venue with Sevendust. It was a hell of a show. I am pretty sure I couldn't talk for a couple of days after that one.
-
Puddle of Mudd
I cannot hear that name without thinking of Hoobastank, and I cannot think of Hoobastank without being reminded of this:
-
Changes, by Yes. I've been listening to this song a lot lately.
I like the 80's Yes a lot. In fact, I like all of Yes a lot.
However, if you're into 90125 (and the albums that followed), you might want to check out Trevor Rabin's compilation of early demos too: 90124
edit: in particular:
-
Better:
Guns N' Roses - November Rain – 09:17
— GunsNRosesVEVOTo each their own. I like November Rain, but there are quite a few of their songs that I would put ahead of it.
For example:
-
Sounds good. I don't know much about the late Yes (I.E post-90125). I've heard some of their early stuff (Close To The Edge, Tales, Fragile, Yes Album). I'm only just venturing into the 80's Yes.
-
Don't listen to this video, watch it.
Whiteys Lindy Hoppers .. Hellzapoppin. – 02:43
— docludi2Lindy Hoppers from Hellzapoppin'
That's better dancing than twerking is, although I admit that's damning with faint praise.

Westworld Sonic Boom Boy
They don't write songs like this any more.
I loved Westworld

Sonic Boom Boy is the first song I remember liking so I have a soft spot for it. I was surprised to learn when I researched the
articlepost that Westworld were formed by the guitarist from Generation X.

In the spirit of full disclosure I'm a huge Billy Idol fan. From there I got into Gen X and that led me into Westworld (Derwood) and SSS (Tony James).
-
I saw Billy Idol 10* years ago at Wolverhampton Civic Hall for his Devil's Playground tour. I'm not a massive fan but it was a good gig and a good album.
*Did a double take at this figure.

MUSICAL taste?
Westworld isn't a musical.
It starred Yul Brenner as a killer robot.
